The game has changed mainly because of the faster, thinner cloth. The balls spread out more on the thinner cloth and games end faster because it's easier to get a century break. They did this to keep ratings high after several of the matches ended in the early hours in the 80s.
That final red reminded me of the opening red in cliffs 147 break,cliff was a great player and character and I loved watching him play

Yeah..watched that final. Thorburn Took a battering. Davis repeated that torture by inflicting it on John Parrott 18-3 a few years later

2:19: the ref brushed off the dust on the red and spreaded it back on the carpet: not very cleaver!!!
Back then we didn't understand dust as well as we do now.
