    Gosh, Till's rich, warm baritone voice. Loving it. The song is so beautifully sad and comforting at the same time, because of the vocals. Something can be pretty and shiny like a diamond, but also cold as a stone. I had the honour to experience it live. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about the atmosphere in the stadium. Till had his eyes closed the majority of the time performing the song. No problem with fire and action on stage, but getting really nervous, when it's just him and his voice. After all these years on stage. So heartwarming. The german language is a very poetic and therefore beautiful. We used to be known as the country of poets and thinkers. It's a pleasure to see your reactions to Rammstein. You're in my top 5 favorite list of channels. With love from Germany ❤🤘🏻

    "Schwesterlein" is an endearment, "sister dear", not necessarily indicating age. This song gives me such horror vibes. I read somewhere, Till wrote this poem after visiting slums in South America. There he saw women prostituting themselves with their children right in the next room. In the original poem it's the narrators mother, not the sister.

    One of the songs from the album that I fell in love with from the first listen. The live version as an opener is stunning as well. Even more emotional than the album recording. I think the reason I love this track is because I find it so relatable. I am an eternal pessimist and at least that way, I'm never really disappointed. Where matters of the heart are concerned though, my shields go up straight away because of past experience. I know that people don't necessarily understand it, but it's a form of self preservation of you will. Nice analysis as always from you both, as always. Some gems yet to come!

    This was actually the opening song for the 2019 tour for the album. At first I didn't really pay much attention to the song. It only convinced me later when I heard it live a few times! I find the song more powerful and vocally expressive live than on the album. But that is probably a matter of taste. My two best songs on the album at the moment (Weit weg/ Hallomann) are still on hold😬

    Hello, Isn't this a fantastic album? I listen to this song, when I'm in a melancic mood. It's soothing. Like a cozy blanket for the soul. One of the reason I listen to Rammstein, besides the great sound, poetry and the thought-provoking art is because in most songs they talk about the darker parts of life and love. The complexities of the human being, which gives me the comfort of honesty. No sugarcoating. Oddly thou I'm a positive thinking person. With love from Germany ❤🤘🏻

    whenever I listen to the song, I always regarded the "result" as the sister dying, since the german is very unambiguous here ... but I guess given the perspective the story of the song is "told" from, I might well be that death is "just" the impression the "protagonist" has with his limited perspective ... still, Till probably would have different wording if he wanted to leave more room for interpretation

  • @LemurInSocks
    @LemurInSocks 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The translation “kid sister” is not great. Schwesterlein is a diminutive form of Schwester “sister”. It could mean “little sister” but diminutives are often just familiar, endearing or childlike ways of referring to or addressing someone. English doesn’t have quite the same thing but there’s something similar going on with “dog” and “doggy”.

    Great reaction. 1st time I listened to the song, my jaw dropped. Didn't think that Rammstein would still manage to do that after soooo many years. Incredible. I listen to the song quite often, love it very much. It's not a real story, but when Till travels, he also visits the slums. Wouldn't be surprised, if he saw something similar. Sister working as a prostitute to provide for her younger sibling. And yes, Lacey is right, the live performance is fantastic, experienced it last night in Frankfurt. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

    Loving this song for its darkness and insanely sinister sound. Even if you don't know the lyrics, it is obvious that something very bad is happening 😵 I think that "Schwesterlein" here is not used to express that she is very young, rather in the meaning of "my beloved sister". It's even darker if you realize, that they are probably orphans and the boy is somewhat mentally ill... and once he realizes she is dead, he goes completely mad. And the live show exactly reflects the darkness of this song, being the most shocking part of current shows - even when "Wiener Blut" is brought into... Thanks for reacting and reviewing, hope to see your reaction to a live version soon! Have a fantastic day! ❤

    Hello. This is a humorous song, but the laugh kind of get stuck in your throat. Because it's a light summer hit, the lyrics contradicts to that light feeling. So typical of Rammstein. Germany was a little late when it came to colonialism and it was never really a national project (probably others were quicker 😉). As far as I know, three countries were colonized and robbed by us. The colonial era ended in 1918. I like the song, but I almost never listen to it. I honestly don't know why.😂 With love from Germany ❤🤘🏻

    The song refers to the banning of certain music and programmes from 1933 up until 1989 in some parts of Germany. Under the NS Regime foreign radio was forbidden under penalty of imprisonment or worse, then in the Russian Zone they just carried on this practice until the wall fell.

  • @Maarten_Bondzio

    19:56 I think you guys might have a not quite accurate translation there. "Das mann Sprachen lernen muss" translates to "that one has to learn languages", which can refer to the other aswell as to the lyrical I. In the verses there's specific mention of "Auslaenderinnen", which is the German female form of "Auslaender". Giving the whole song and lyrics a sexual undertone.

      Funny you should say that as that is how I started doing it many moons ago with Rammstein. Got so many people saying that I should read the lyrics I finally gave into it. I did really enjoy the days of just experiencing the music, vocals and video however I also love getting the lyrical content as it's happening as some of the tracks have such poignant, thought provoking, cutting and colourful imagery that I want that to be the driver for the discussion. I guess learning German would be the ultimate answer.

    • @MrFreezeYo
      @MrFreezeYo 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PopCultureProductions I get you - sometimes the music speaks for itself. But with Rammstein there are some songs where you need the context and the lyrics, to get on another level of understanding - not all to be fair. The thing is - in german most of their songs have a lot of interpretation going on for everyone, which is almost lost during translation, because german language isn't really translatable 1:1 to english. If you don't mind, I would enjoy you analysing the lyrics, too. Otherwise your reactions were pretty spot on. I am looking forward to your journey. I had tickets to their show in 3 weeks in germany, sadly I had to sell them last week. But next year I will go again ;) I am not even a metalhead but these are the best concerts on the planet, period.

    @Seddon: Dutch singer Robert Long (1943 - 2006) has some interesting songs about religion. He was openly homosexual in the 60s, 70s and 80s and had his struggles with the Church because of that. I think you will be able to find his songs with English subtitles. Most notorious one is Jezus redt (Jesus saves), but there's also "Homo Sapiens" (about gays being condemned by conservative clergy) and the hilarious "Jacob", about a young priest who wants to spice things up in church, for example by having a hashish bar in the vicarage.

  • @Maarten_Bondzio
    @Maarten_Bondzio 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I’m a protestant vicar and a Rammstein fan. And this is one of favorite songs of this album. In Liturgy, we have what is called the “kyrie” prayer, basically asking God to have mercy on the World, on us humans and not in the least on us Christians. For all that we do wrong. It’s also a kind of a cry out for God to show himself to us. I have once or twice used the lyrics of this song, in a slightly adapted version, for the Kyrie prayer. It points out so accurately what we christians (“God’s ground crew”) do wrong. And as a cry out: Show yourself (in us)! Theologically, this song is so interesting: in the fake-Latin intro a few actual Latin phrases stand out: crucifixus - crusified, extraspection - (the capability) to look outward, lumine - light/enlighten. And the actual lyrics: Zeig Dich, versteck Dich nicht - Show yourself, don’t hide. While this is definitely directed towards God, it can also be directed to the christian/believer to be a force of good in the world. Wir verlieren das Licht - We lose the light: The world is getting darker, and there is no sign of light and of God, because even christians don’t really show it in the world. Even christians engage in the bad things mentioned in the verse. Der Himmel faerbt sich rot - The Heavens color red: Red is the colour of passion and of love, and in the christian tradition it is the colour of the Holy Spirit. My interpretation as a pastor: we as humans beings/believers/christians are the vessels to show God’s light, whether He is real or not, through our acts (of love and kindness) instead of condemning and persecuting others. As the Church has done for millennia, sadly. This song is a cry out to God to come out and show Himself, but also to believers to show themselves and to show Him by showing love, mercy and kindness in this dark world.
