My favourite Beethoven sonata. I try to find something that I do not like about Barenboim here, but I can't. How carefully he tells the story. Great sense of rhythm , good emotional balance like what you can expect of a grandmaster. So much respect and understanding of what he's dealing with. A sort of "literal" interpretation, position of notes remain paramount, the best for students of music. Once more Beethoven's intentions are exposed with clarity. Oh! I could carry on but I won't.
I've spent the last 6 years listening to classical and only classical music each day not less than 4 hours a day and having listened to hundreds of concertos, symphonies, sonatas and chamber music but still this one is my favorite piece of all time for me I see the second movement has some really unique taste and feeling aside from the breath taking third movement, after listening to this piece for hunderds of times there are stills tears rolling into my eyes once i listen to it. don't know how but i'm sure if all the people listen to this piece there will be no more hate and everyone will start loving each other.... pray for my country Iraq :')....

Indeed, this sonata is the best playing of the entire concert . Beethoven must have love it. The sheer and outbursting nature; life loving, the reminiscence , laughing and crying, all heard in this magnificent piece and its performance. It is closest to Beethoven dearest. I cry for Beethoven in this piece, not the moonlight. What a beautiful , so human heart touching Beethoven is. He is alone a possesser of half of this earthI -don't think it a overstatement !

His CBS recordings of Beethoven sonatas have stayed with me since I was a child. So, for better or worse, while listening to other artists' renderings of these pieces, I tend to think back to his treatments of these works, which ring in my ears to this day. Rudolf Serkin, in my opinion, is unrivaled. That does not, however, diminish my admiration for a performance like this, in which Barenboim's technical mastery of the instrument, his touch, his spirit of synthesis, and his wonderful expression are all completely captivating.

After a piano recital I gave, many years ago, in the Conservatory of Music in Chicago, its director came to me and said, very happily: 'FINALLY we hear this Sonata played like this!!" Now, after listening to only a few bars of each movement of the recording of this performnce by Barenboim, I say: "FINALLY I hear another pianist who takes the same tempos as I did!! This means that probably I'm not 'wrong' as I Always thought...!" Ives Nat also played the 3rd movement not fast. Whatever has been said and written about where van Beethoven got the inspiration for this wonderful movement, the tempo indication is Allegretto. Best regards to you all, Geert Dehoux, pianist. One of my favorites. Have it on a piano roll. First movement is somewhat eerie especially at 7:36. Having watched a number of scary movies, it sounds like a soundtrack to a perpetrator approaching his victim. Anyway, Barenboim's performance is so thoughtfully and caringly done on Beethoven's sonatas. Arrau's performances have also been my favorite too.

That is a great goal! This is not an impossible sonata..in fact, it is pretty playable. Keep working hard and you can get there!
Hardest part about the sonata is the emotion in my opinion
I'm learning it right now. very doable as long as you make sure to have good control so you can play with good sound
@@sethjeppson5680 you must mean technique instead of control. Control is deceptive. Voicing and phrasing are the most important elements for playing Beethoven behind technique.
@@orpheus1180 I mean playing with strict control of fingers. for example on faster sections I have a hard time making my 3rd and 4th finger independent

Quale l'interpretazione giusta per una sonata come questa? Difficile a dirsi, senza dubbio una risposta più introspettiva va privilegiata rispetto ad una più eclatante. In tal senso, Baremboin, questo Baremboin, probabilmente incarna al meglio la comunicazione beethoveniana per questa specifica sonata. Spalancare le porte Beethoveniane significa spalancare le porte all'infinito e quindi a Dio. Compito arduo se non impossibile, per tutti

One of my favorites. Have it on a piano roll. First movement is somewhat eerie especially at 7:36. Having watched a number of scary movies, it sounds like a soundtrack to a perpetrator approaching his victim. Anyway, Barenboim's performance is so thoughtfully and caringly done on Beethoven's sonatas. Arrau's performances have also been my favorite too.
