      Yeah, instead of a totalitarian government, we'll be living under a single totalitarian corporate overlord in the near future with total control of all the information we see, the products we can buy, the amount of money we make, etc... it's really no different then the book.

      Rob Vann i want to say that Emanuel's Goldstein's book in the movie 1984 was called "The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism"
      Wich is a not so straight way to say the same thing as you.

      When Orwell published it he wanted to call it 1948, the year he published. His publishers were shy about it fearing government objections, so he changed the last 2 numbers round. Orwell had been in the propaganda division of the war office during WWII and he wrote the book as an exposé of what the y had been doing during the war. So it's been 1984 ever since 1948

      @@Popsy1972 False. Obama’s campaign was something entirely different. These strategies were first practiced in Nigeria and Kenya because it’s easier to do this in developing countries. Then they used it in the trump campaign - the first western campaign they used it on and excited themselves no end to find out how easily it worked. They also did Brexit and a few other elections.

    According to Goebbels, what was distinctive about the Nazis was "the ability to see into the soul of the people and to speak the language of the man in the street"... What distinguished European fascism above all was its discovery of new ways, a methodology, of speaking to the working class. The fascists were not ashamed of mass media and marketing... media was a new language with which the masses were now familiar, including its styles, forms, and assumptions. Fascists were at ease in this exciting new world and recognized that it could be exploited for political purposes, both as a source of methods and as a new kind of culture with a different set of governing assumptions.

      David Were, No, the way Republicans did in 2012! -
      The company CampaignGrid, that serves mainly Republican candidates, claims to be able to online market direct to targeted households. It has an integrated database on 110 million voters across America - some 65% of the electorate - to whom it can serve personalised ads, following them wherever they are browsing on the internet.
      Rick Perry sent God-praising commercials to Iowans who listed themselves as evangelicals on Facebook.
      Michele Bachmann used customised online advertising in Iowa to reach Republican voters only, sending to their computers messages with a local spin for each of the state's 99 counties. That helped her win Iowa's vaunted straw poll in August 2011 (though that didn't help her in the long run).

      What Cambridge Analytica has done goes beyond mining data for purposes of targeting donors, Robert Mercer already has all the money he needs. What he did was to weaponized the data for purposes of propagating emotionally charged fake news.
      ”They call it bio-psycho-social profiling. It takes your physical, mental and lifestyle attributes and works out how people work, how they react emotionally”. Bio-psycho-social profiling is one offensive in what is called 'cognitive warfare'. Though there are many others: "recoding the mass consciousness to turn patriotism into collaborationism," explains a Nato briefing document on countering Russian disinformation written by an SCL employee. "Time-sensitive professional use of media to propagate narratives".

      Thunderbird - this is only an issue because Trump did it. The left uses character assassination, guilt by association, exaggeration, conflation etc. I'm personally a centrist but from what I see the left is completely blind to its own shortcomings, they only see right wing extremism in everything. There was a reason that Hillary with her billions in funding could not defeat Trump. The left is unable to face the fact that its various narratives are failing to fool people any longer.

      KingArthurVIII, You Lie!
      The right has controlled the narrative for past 50 years, ever since their "Powell Manifesto" ushered in their Libertarian/NeoLiberal policies...
      Conservatives have controlled the Supreme Court for the past 50 years, ever since Nixon appointed 4 Conservative judges who then proceeded to kill campaign finance reforms, grant Corporate Oligarchs unconstitutional privileges, corrupt our government and destroy the working class.
      tinyurl.com/scotus-corruption
      The reason Republicans controlling the senate needed to block Obama’s appointment to the Supreme Court was because it would have weakened the grip these Oligarchs have around the neck of working class. No Supreme Court justice caters to the Corporate Oligarchs more than Neil Gorsuch and it was Donald Trump who appointed him!

    Spreading fake news is one thing. But you are conflating two very different issues. A message. And the process of how a message is spread. The remain campaign had far more resources than the leave campaign. And we can all recognise that this story, hyped up in advance by the Guardian in preparation for later linking it to the leave Brexit vote, is just another way of saying the voters were too stupid to understand what they were voting for.

    • @freedahlogic8368
      @freedahlogic8368 ปีที่แล้ว

      The voters who voted leave do seem surprised that standards have dropped and costs have risen. The EU may have involved red tape in some ways but in many other ways it simplified life enormously. That’s gone now so best get on with making the most of what you chose.

    • @awesomeavenger2810
      @awesomeavenger2810 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@freedahlogic8368 I don't think anyone is surprised that after closing down the economy for nearly two years, and continuing war in Europe, that costs have risen. Not just in the UK, but across Europe and much of the world. Or at least, they shouldn't be surprised.
