Hi Sam! That blue locomotive is former Swedish Railways B class No. 1697, built in 1944, later sold to SWB as A2 No. 101. I work with those on my railway. :) The tender is appropriate for the class as they used them back here on routes with shorter turntables. The blue paint I believe is _suposed_ to represent the blued metal applied on the boiler and cab, but is much too blue here. It should be more greyish and at the time she was built the practice of blueing the cab and boiler was abandoned for the simpler (and cheaper) all-black paint. Still, looks nice!

Hi Sam, the Diesel Hydraulic 0-6-0 in the shed numbered 45, is a Class 14 locomotive new to 1964/65 to British Railways as D 9520. It was sold in the late 1960's to Stewarts & Lloyod's steel makers at Corby. The Class 31 locomotives where present as there was a Sixty birthday bash Gala for the Class in mid October which clashed with the Peterborough Model Railway Event. Yellow Class 31 belongs to Harry Needle railways, 31 466 is visiting from the Dean Forest Railway, and 31 271 Stratford 1840-2001 in Railfreight two tone grey is owned by A1A Locomotive group of Butterley (Midland Railway Centre).

0:27 that engine came from Sweden! the Nene Valley Railway has quite a few continental European trains!
3:37 that Thomas was the first real steam locmotive to be painted as such! The Reverend w Awdry dedicated it in 1971!
3:54 I think that engine sat in an abandoned storage shed for many years and was brought here probably last year!
    4:55 I think that's a class 14 with cutaway panels!
8:30 that box car with the worn out wood is a continental European one!

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Many thanks for the comment and all the information - I'm going to see if I can get a class 14 one day!
      Cheers,

Sam, would like you to answer some questions I thought of:
1: If you were head of railways, would you bring back steam engines (and make them more Eco friendly) or would you keep diesels?
2: If you could bring back 5 steam engines that have been scrapped, what would they be?

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi!
As much as I love steam, I wouldn't bring them back - there would be no way to make them more economical then diesel or electrics I don't think... not to mention the maintenance!
I think they'd be the E2, P2, Turbomotive, 4-4-0 County and Iron Duke - off the top of my head :3
      Thanks for watching,
      Sam :)

There is actually the mock-up class 325 cab end at Overton (Stop just after Wansford heading to Peterborough) which is open to people and the cab door and windows are still openable. Not sure if it is accessible to get inside of now however.

You should definitely take an exciting trip to my local railway- it's the Kent and East Sussex Railway. It's amazing. It's the finest example in the whole country of a light railway. You could easily spend a full day there!

Thanks, Sam. It's always interesting to see inside the old cabs and wagons.
There is a five-part series on TH-cam produced by the BBC. It's called Full Steam Ahead. It shows the development of railways, rolling stock and railways services starting before Rocket and going right up to the eclipse of steam by diesel power. The presenters ride and drive, dig and chop, and climb and crawl all about them. It's interesting in all kinds of ways.

Sam that loco is a F class from sweden and that plate on the cabside is a litt F 11xx .
The tender is a Sj standard tender.
This loco was made by NOHAB the major loco
bouilder in sweden this loco in its original livery is very stunning.
But the Swdish state railways loco workshop was a boulider as well.
You should be very luckey indeed to have seen this loco.
It was exported to denmark and was bouild under licence by Frichs in denmark.
Thanks for showing my favorite steam loco from sweden.
    👍👍👍👍🇸🇪

Hey Sam! Awesome video. You can maybe go to the Middleton Railway in Leeds! Interestingly, they are restoring a Saint Madeleine Sugar Company Locomotive there; No. 18 “Picton”. In 2002, a gentleman named David Monkton bought the loco and trans-shipped it from Trinidad to England where it was put in Leeds to be restored to working order.

Hi Sam. I believe the token can be/is used as a key to release locked mechanisms. Without the key token from the incoming train the points and signals cannot be set to allow an outgoing train to return on that single track. The same thing applies at the other end, the points are locked until the return service arrives. Bob.

Thanks for bringing me back to Nene Valley Railway. It's the first and sofar only English heritage railway that I've been at. My friend and her husband brought me there in 2014 when I was visiting them. If you're interested, here is a short video with a cab ride in another Swedish locomotive. You will recognise many things from the loco you 'played' in: th-cam.com/video/tUWlTWmgyAU/w-d-xo.html
    /Anders
(The Swedish B class loco at NVR was never painted in that blue colour when it was used in Sweden. It was probably all black when NVR bought it)

    Hey Sam
Great video, I guess the Nene Valley do love a class 31!
If your ever up in in Middle Earth (well the midlands) you should visit the Churnet Valley Railway. It's a great little line, with some exiting extensions planned.....
I am planning a video series where I walk (at least some of) the parts of the lined that aren't preserved.
On a different note, have you considered buying a Sentinel?

Next time go to the bluebell railway because it has a lot of steam locomotives with different colors. Also at 8:21 that locomotive with the black sheet on it, that might be the only existing BR class 28, No. D5702 which is BoCo's basis. Because they always sheet D5702. Also No. 271 train had the brake coach in the middle, it should be on the end.
