Good video. I once visited the West Somerset Railway (2nd to 6th July, 2018), and I was reunited with Foxcote Manor over there. She and I were together three days straight. A 7F 2-8-0 and Odney Manor were seen at Minehead; 7F in running order and Odney Manor was under overhaul. If it's not too far out of your reach, I recommend a visit to the West Somerset Railway. The most superb GWR Engine experience you'll ever get, believe me. For eats in Minehead itself, I recommend The Old Ship Aground Pub on the harbour. It has the best Scampi, Chips and Mushy Peas on the planet. You'll love it, I assure you.
I think the BR Standard 9f has to be my favorite locomotive, sure it's not as large as the Union Pacifix "Big Boy", or as fast as the A4s. However it was powerful, pretty decently fast, worked amazing for freight trains, and even did marvelous work on the occasional express.
Nice video about the steam locomotives and diesels at the great central railway! Its happy to see these old British locomotives today when they got preserved. I especially love the 9F that you showed!
Just love the 9f and that 3f too! In fact the Locos in the yards are all a credit to the guys that work on them. Thanks for posting Sam great birthday treat!
I wish I lived in England to see these beautiful machines puffing along the countryside:( Here in America, seeing running steam locomotives would be a dream. Also, 7:26 is the truest thing Ive ever heard! :D Great video, Sam!
Sam'sTrains- trying to see main line steam action is like pulling teeth if you're not close to one here in the states. There are tourist railways that have steam. Most are reserved for special weekends. However, the narrow gauge lines in Colorado are all steam. Most of the mainline steam action are more of the Midwest and east coast right now. Norfolk and Western 611 is the popular steam star right now. Union Pacific only brings out no. 844 certain times of the year. There is steam action, but it takes money, and lots of it to get where you need to go to view it.
If you go to Carson City Nevada, they have a restored railway about 22 miles long with an old steamy for rides. Look it up, It's quite the experience :D
The class 2 no. 78018 (5:16) Was originally meant to be in the railway series books. That railway looks interesting as well. I might go and visit it one day.
Excellent video! :) Been on the 9F on many occasions, it's great that you got to drive it! she's a beast! I volunteer at the GCR it's a great Railway! Thanks for Sharing! :)
You lucky beggar! I've been to that station many times, but never on a footplate! When I was in wales, I had a trip to the talyllyn, Corris and Ffestiniog railways, getting a cheeky ride on the footplate of a garratt on the Ffestiniog :) Great video
haha! Thanks very much mate! Oh wow - I bet that was fantastic on the Ffestiniog, not much room in those locos though! Gorgeous railway that one anyway, Thanks again, Sam :)
I once worked on this railway very nice but they have said that was not allowed to work there so I plan to go back next year and try again any nice to see 92214 again gives me some good memories. as well as 46521 who I am owed a cab ride on.
Great Video Sam Happy Belated birthday and hope you had a great day. I'm not far from the GCR just about half hour away but it's always nice to go and can't wait for the bridging the gap. many thanks harry
Thanks very much Harry - yeah it was fantastic thanks mate! It's definitely a fantastic place to visit - I think it's one of the best in terms of locomotives! All the best, Sam :)
Now that's a birthday present, love the great central railway went there on my birthday in feb cant wait go back down great when only up the road. The 9F Leicester city is my favourite on that line. Hopefully a steam gala will be on in the near future, Great vid as ever sam All.best keep safe Dave
You're not a real rail-roader until you have breakfast cooked by the fire box!!!!!! I must that is one sweet sweet birthday gift Sam! You are a blessed man! Thank you for the wonderful video, cheers! Andy
This is brilliant Sam! Such a lucky boy, I love the none consoled controls on the DMU desk ha and the 9f was stunning! So excellent, gota love those Hymeks in the background and those gorgeous stanier 5s
Look forward to seeing the finished hill , the grass mat arrives tomorrow so I can start putting the scenery on mine . Glad I was able to help you . Cheers........Peter
Great Video Sam. Two things, First is about two weeks ago I was on my way to our caravan on the east coast when I had to pull off the A46 for a loo stop near Leicester, I am glad I did, at the first big island I had to give way to a huge loco tender on a low loader, and behind it was !!! ,yes that 9f .what a joy ,it looked gorgeous on its low loader. I am definitely going to see it soon before it leaves . second ,I have the Bachmann class 2 46521model ,the same class 2 46521 you filmed, it was lovely to see the real thing thanks I really enjoyed this video Ted
Thanks Ted! Blimey, yeah it's a fantastic locomotive that one - a total monster! That's great news - yeah I don't think I'd ever seen a green one before in the flesh either! Thanks very much for your kind words, Sam :)
I love the great central railway and im lucky enough to have it run past my back garden and I go on the train every week. I can tell 100% I was there on the railway when you were there.
it definitely is a love-hate as it is fantastic but as it is so close to Rothley station they come by quite slow and it can be a bit awkward when you have just woke up and your just sitting in the garden having a cup of tea in your pajamas and a train comes by with many people staring at you. I was almost in the video. When you were videoing the 3F I was just the other side of that brick building.
I've been on a 9f and got to stay in the cab when it was being driven it was called Black Prince (running number 92203) PS. I've got hornby boscastle 😄
5:43 i went behind that exact locomotive on my birthday in 2019! It was great! Although its a shame that i didn't say it was my birthday then ask to have a cab ride or at least blow the whistle
Thanks Luke, yeah the 9F was amazing! I do have a little shed, but I don't have all that space for anything huge - I'd need a very big shed to hold over 200 locos ;) All the best mate, Sam :)
well happy birthday!!!it looks fun wish i lived in britan we in NZ have KA942 steam loco (witch are my favourite!)and JA 1250steam locos and old EO DMUS there quiet cool!!
Please do more of this and I've been in side a dmu cab and drove it at Barry scrap yard what I saw was the remains of steam trains still awaiting the torch for 59 years later

0:26 that's a class 101 with center trailer! Nice you got in the cab of the largest British Railways standard locomotive while under steam! 3:46 I like that 2MT, but it looks odd in green! 4:29 It wasn't too long ago since you did that 8F review!
Ahh thanks! That one was bugging me not knowing! Yeah it was awesome - I got to drive it too! :D The green is quite unusual looking, though I must admit I love it. Nope, not that long ago - lovely to see one in real life though! All the best, Sam :)
The Great Central is one of my favourite preserved lines. I've been 3 times. My video for the 11th. Ap. is my visit to the Mid Hants. Cheers Sam, David.
Man, I'm so jealous- (possibly) the best birthday gift ever! And I'm more jealous 'cause you live in England, home of many great locomotives... Over here, all we see are subways, subways everywhere... Though they are fast and clean, it doesn't have the beauty.
haha! Thanks very much - yeah it was a fantastic present! Ahh that's a shame - I guess it's hard to get excited about a subway, haha! ;D Cheers, Sam :)
Have you ever been to the Severn valley railway? I think it was a 7F or 9F but I went on the footplate of no. 34027 "Taw Valley" for "apprentice day". (Not to brag but I also work at the SVR). On that day I did... guard, TTI, Lunch, Footplate from bridgenorth to highly, and finally the buffet car.
Lovely vid Sam, great quality graphics and excellent sound quality. Loved all the shots on the 9f, if br were to do a model show their 9f's would win for value gear :D
Muneem's favourites Mind you, I love the Bullied Pacific for their simplicity. Almost looks like the toy makers have left some bits off, but it's great to see the air smoothed running. (Swanage, last week;)
Oh i perfectly understand after all my comment was based on personal preference and so is yours. and you made some nice nostalgic points. Thanks mate :)
Well, he says that he was on a train that was pulled by Oliver Cromwell, and it breaks down, and then he says that.......... Well, i don't remember much else but just these break downs happen time again and again. Cheers, Loco4472
In regards to what the tour guide said about 63601 and 60103, as the Robinson 04 has barely been changed (not modified) then they want to keep it as in original condition as possible because they know, it will upset the enthusiasts. But the NRM only paid the large sum of money for 60103's overhaul was to try and put it back into as original condition as possible and also the fact, they found so many different issues when they tried
Yeah I take your point - but they guy at the GCR never suggested that they would do anything other than try to restore her to her original condition - it sounds like they just want to overhaul her and get her working again, so that she's out of the shed where everyone can see her! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
there a lot bigger then the model huh sam? nice to see last year went to north northfolk railway, has changed a lil but not much sadly no train ride no idea how much it would cost, plus i used to get a child ticket back in 99' 02' ish era when i was young but prices have changed, they had a big black 0 10 2 engine can't remember its name but it was nice to see again
haha, yeah just a bit bigger - more detail too! Ah yeah - sadly these things do seem quite expensive these days, but I guess they're not cheap to maintain! Sounds good though, I'd love to see that too! All the best, Sam :)
Great video, my dad actually has some old tubes from the 9F that weren't put in properly, and cracked on the ends, (they are therefore perfect with the cracked ends cut off and then cut in half for a steam roller like what we have). Love the great central, have you ever been to their road rail event at Easter?
Oh wow - that's a great souvineer to have! I don't think I've ever been at Easter actually - but that does sound brilliant! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Sam'sTrains I would definitely recommend it. About 10 or more road engines go to the event and a few miniatures. We usually take our roller, but not at the moment because she currently having a new firebox
haha, that's very true! The camera I used for this is very old now actually - but it still does a good job! I didn't dare bring my bigger camera, in case anything happened to it! All the best, Sam :)
Sam, if i remember correctly, the GCR has the Barrow Hill workshops? if this is correct then i feel like I'm right in saying that they're restoring several ex SECR Pullmans, six axle bogie types, that were up in the North East on hotels and office sites. once they're completed they'll be installed down at the refurbished Folkestone Harbour, which is being regenerated at the moment. still, looks like a grand day out- I'm going to try and get over to York tomorrow before i go back down to Hastings on Saturday. have a good one, Alex
Ooh I'm not sure about that - maybe! I know they were restoring some coaches, but I thought they were teaks! Thanks a lot though - yeah it was a fantastic day, and that sounds good too - York's always worth a visit! All the best, Sam :)
Lovely! I always dream about coming to visit the UK and take a ride on old steam trains! I live in Italy but i grew up watching Thomas the tank engine and i always loved british trains, they are amazing. When i think at steam trains, i have in mind one of these big steam engines! (in fact i have Hornby trains, not Marklin trains like most of the people here haha)
Hi Matthew, I really hope you can live your dream and visit some time! Its great to hear that you're interested in British trains from Italy! Thanks so much for the comment, Sam :)
Great One, hope you had an enjoyable day there! Now that is my biggest wish in my life, to actually join a Footplate Experience myself, and drive a steamloco all by myself (a 14xx and autocoach would be my favourite, I can already drive one on my own in Train Simulator Advanced Mode😂). Sadly, here in Germany there are not so many preserved railways, and they certainly do not allow such things as Footplate Experiences.
Thanks very much! Yeah it was a fantastic day - and I really hope you can do that one day! :D Ahh that's a shame - maybe you might visit some British railways one day?? All the best, Sam :)
Yeah I did! I heard all about it while I was there - it sounds awesome! They're also getting connected to the mainline, or trying to! All the best, Sam :)
i would like to see him review a model of a union Pacific big boy locomotive and do some strength tests to see how long the locomotive can pull, nicely detailed cab but without sprung buffers?!
the price i googled for the big boy model is roughly about 💲748.84 or at its cheapest 💲578.45 i think, as for if it'll on your layout - i don't see any reason why it shouldn't run on your layout h0 and 00 are similar in terms of rail gauge, but size difference are noticeable. very expensive but it's worth it for any rail enthusiast. ^_^
*As we can see here this BR Class 9F from Hornby is a beautiful model in a lovely BR Green Livery with some very nice cab detail and sprung buffers.*
haha yeah - the cab detail was absolutely amazing - almost like the real thing! I really don't know how Hornby do it! ;D
Sasuri haha :)
Dunno. But it isn't HO or OO gauge. More like real life gauge
Sasuri The Swindon and Crewe Works 1:1 Scale model of the class 9f with realistic weathering and detail real coal along with live steam and sound

Wow three days straight?! Where did you sleep?! lol
That sounds wonderful though - I'd love to visit!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains I was staying in the Beach House Hotel in Minehead, next door to both the beach and the railway.
I think the BR Standard 9f has to be my favorite locomotive, sure it's not as large as the Union Pacifix "Big Boy", or as fast as the A4s. However it was powerful, pretty decently fast, worked amazing for freight trains, and even did marvelous work on the occasional express.

Yeah, we are very lucky! Do they not run many steamers now in the US then??
haha yeah - he was an excellent guide! :D
All the best,

at strathspey they let me see in the cab of 46512

3:52 that is a King Arthur class although the N15 looks familiar to the King Arthur class.
Ahh I stand corrected - thanks mate! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The train at 0:46 is one I drive on Train Simulator 2020. Looking at it in this film I’m surprised how realistic it is in the game
Ooh awesome!! I might have to try that one too then! :D

Thanks Ted! Blimey, yeah it's a fantastic locomotive that one - a total monster!
That's great news - yeah I don't think I'd ever seen a green one before in the flesh either!
Thanks very much for your kind words,
Sam :)
I love the great central railway and im lucky enough to have it run past my back garden and I go on the train every week. I can tell 100% I was there on the railway when you were there.
Oh wow! I bet that's a love-hate relationship then, being just outside your house! haha - you didn't see yourself in the vid then?? ;D
Cheers,

it definitely is a love-hate as it is fantastic but as it is so close to Rothley station they come by quite slow and it can be a bit awkward when you have just woke up and your just sitting in the garden having a cup of tea in your pajamas and a train comes by with many people staring at you.

If you havent already, have a day out on the GWsR at Cheltenham. Their extenson to Broadway is opening March this year. Great railway experience.
Ooh that's great - i'll look into that, thanks a lot for the tip!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Good luck pushing those buffers to see if they're sprung! I'd love to drive a 9F, they're my favorite British locomotive class!
haha I know right! I don't blame you - definitely do it if you get the chance!!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Love the GCR we go at least twice maybe three times a year. The World War Two days are good. As is the model rail way weekend to.
Hi Ian, yeah it's a fantastic place really! I've never been to one of their WW2 days, but it sounds well worth checking out!
All the best,
Sam :)

That's amazing!! Ahh yeah you should have done that! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Seems like it was a great day out, look like a nice railway
Thanks a lot - yeah it was a fantastic day out! It's a lovely railway - definitely worth visiting!
All the best,
Sam :)
Very nice and that 9f is amazing! You should model a shed on your layout where you can keep and maintain all of your locos.
Thanks Luke, yeah the 9F was amazing! I do have a little shed, but I don't have all that space for anything huge - I'd need a very big shed to hold over 200 locos ;)
All the best mate,
Sam :)
well happy birthday!!!it looks fun wish i lived in britan we in NZ have KA942 steam loco (witch are my favourite!)and JA 1250steam locos and old EO DMUS there quiet cool!!

Thanks Liam, I will try to do some more real railways soon! :D
Oh really? I didn't realise they ran trains at Barry!
Thanks for watching mate,
Sam :)
The dmu at the beginning of the video is the same class as the one I drove but I can't remember the classification
I live down the road from there so we can go any day, it's such an amazing heritage railway, also looks like a 101 but I dont think they came in BR green
Oh wow that's very lucky!! Yes you could be right!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Excellent video, I love heritage railways.
Thanks a lot Philip - me too! :D

Thanks for the tour and belated happy birthday :) Alan
No problem Alan, hope you enjoyed it, and thanks very much mate!
Cheers,

Wow it s only when you are next to those steam trains that you really appreciate how big they are, here in Switzerland the steam trains are tiny !
haha yeah! Especially when you look at models all day, like I do! But yeah - totally impressed by the size of that 9F!
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
Sounds like you had a great time, hope you had a great birthday.
Thanks Callum, yeah it was really great thanks!
All the best,
Sam :)
The green is quite unusual looking, though I must admit I love it.
Nope, not that long ago - lovely to see one in real life though!
All the best,
Sam :)
I would like to see you film the south devon railway, iv seen a vid of oliver cromwell and a black 5 visiting there.
I have done some filming there - you should find it in my video called summertime railway adventures!

Thanks so much Tee - I can highly recommend it! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The Great Central is one of my favourite preserved lines. I've been 3 times. My video for the 11th. Ap. is my visit to the Mid Hants. Cheers Sam, David.
Thanks David, yeah mine too - it's absolutely fantastic there! Okay mate, sounds good - I'll definitely check that out!
All the best mate,
Sam :)
Ahh that's a shame - I guess it's hard to get excited about a subway, haha! ;D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Hmmm, I think I did go there once, but quite a while ago! Very nice - that sounds awesome!! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
3:49 it is an N15 Look at the splasher
Ahh cool - thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I have been in Shrewsbury signal box (England's tallest signal box)
Ooh very nice Seth!! :D
"If you put the name flying scotsman on the side theyll pay six million(!)" that man is my hero
haha I know - I loved that, haha!
All the best,
Sam :)
4:25 that guy walked forwards then backwards...
Look behind the tender!
haha ooh you noticed - a bit of an editing trick ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Lovely vid Sam, great quality graphics and excellent sound quality. Loved all the shots on the 9f, if br were to do a model show their 9f's would win for value gear :D
Thanks very much as always mate - really glad you enjoyed it mate! Yeah, definitely agree with you on that one!
All the best,
Sam :)
Nice, it seems like after watching one of Chris Eden-Green's videos the BR 7MTs are jinxed engines.
Thanks a lot! Are they really?! How come?
All the best,
Sam :)
Well, he says that he was on a train that was pulled by Oliver Cromwell, and it breaks down, and then he says that.......... Well, i don't remember much else but just these break downs happen time again and again.
Cheers,
Loco4472
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
there a lot bigger then the model huh sam? nice to see last year went to north northfolk railway, has changed a lil but not much sadly no train ride no idea how much it would cost, plus i used to get a child ticket back in 99' 02' ish era when i was young but prices have changed, they had a big black 0 10 2 engine can't remember its name but it was nice to see again
haha, yeah just a bit bigger - more detail too! Ah yeah - sadly these things do seem quite expensive these days, but I guess they're not cheap to maintain! Sounds good though, I'd love to see that too!
All the best,
Sam :)
Awesome video the DMU is either a class 111 or 101
Thanks so much, and that's great - I got a 101 recently, so it'd be nice if it was one of those!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Happy birthday Sam!
Nick
haha thanks Nick - it was a great day!! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains I would definitely recommend it. About 10 or more road engines go to the event and a few miniatures. We usually take our roller, but not at the moment because she currently having a new firebox
Nice video Sam. Happy birthday!
Many thanks Rob, glad you enjoyed the video!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Great videos but How were you aloud to drive it was it for them driver experiences
Thanks very much! Yeah it was a driver experience day - it was awesome! :D
Thanks again,
Sam :)
Great quality video. Pity cameras of this capability didn't exist back when all the interesting stuff was happening.
haha, that's very true! The camera I used for this is very old now actually - but it still does a good job! I didn't dare bring my bigger camera, in case anything happened to it!
All the best,
Sam :)
great to see steam still running
Yeah it is - it never gets old does it?? :D
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
That looks like a nice trip
Thanks Marty - it really was nice! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
look behind the 8f tender at 4:23
haha! Well spotted! ;D
When your friend said in the hornby Murdoch video they had small wheels darn the man next to them is taller than them
haha absolutely - they are huge still, but other locos have larger ones xD
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hay Sam which model company is your favorite
I've been on the foot footplate of Russell The Welsh Highland Railway engine
Oh wow!! I bet that was awesome! Did you travel anywhere in it?? :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
I rode in the Footplate full length of the Welsh Highland Railway Centre and they sell cheap Bachman Railway children sets on Ebay
Sam, if i remember correctly, the GCR has the Barrow Hill workshops?
if this is correct then i feel like I'm right in saying that they're restoring several ex SECR Pullmans, six axle bogie types, that were up in the North East on hotels and office sites. once they're completed they'll be installed down at the refurbished Folkestone Harbour, which is being regenerated at the moment.
still, looks like a grand day out- I'm going to try and get over to York tomorrow before i go back down to Hastings on Saturday.
have a good one,
Alex
Ooh I'm not sure about that - maybe!
I know they were restoring some coaches, but I thought they were teaks!
Thanks a lot though - yeah it was a fantastic day, and that sounds good too - York's always worth a visit!
All the best,
Sam :)
Thanks so much for the comment,
Sam :)
PS: by the way, is there any website for any details about this place?
You should go to the bluebell railway got loads of lovely locos
I should - it looks amazing! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I believe the DMU is a Class 101. I have been on it before.
Thanks for that Ewan, I think you're right! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Many thanks
No problem, hope you liked it!
Cheers,
Sam :)
awesome video, I love that railway, will u be going to see flying Scotsman this week?
Hi Oskar, thanks a lot mate - I would love to, but I think I'll be a bit busy :(
All the best,
Sam :)
5:12 Sam this 2MT is the BR Standard one, the Ivatt one was 46521 :)
Okay! Thanks very much for clearing that up mate - apparently there wasn't a lot of difference with that one though! :3
Cheers,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains Yeah there isnt a lot of difference. Don't know why BR even made a copy of the LMS one in the first place ;)
Have you ever considered adding a narrow gauge line to your layout?
I have - but I have no space for any more track sadly :(
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Ahh that's a shame - maybe you might visit some British railways one day??
All the best,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains Yeah, Hope so too. Actually, I hope to live in the UK one day, for I'm a bit of an anglophile. Best wishes from Germany mate!
Did you know they having an extension to Nottingham?
Yeah I did! I heard all about it while I was there - it sounds awesome! They're also getting connected to the mainline, or trying to!
All the best,
Sam :)
92214 nice detail ratings: 10/10 and dmu by b.r 10/10 just like the real thing's all joks aside nice video
haha! Yeah I know - best models I've ever seen, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
I believe that DMU is a class 108 or 101
i would like to see him review a model of a union Pacific big boy locomotive and do some strength tests to see how long the locomotive can pull, nicely detailed cab but without sprung buffers?!
Yeah that'd be great - do you think it'd run okay on my layout??
If I can ever afford one, I will try to - haha!
All the best,
Sam :)
the price i googled for the big boy model is roughly about 💲748.84 or at its cheapest 💲578.45 i think, as for if it'll on your layout - i don't see any reason why it shouldn't run on your layout h0 and 00 are similar in terms of rail gauge, but size difference are noticeable. very expensive but it's worth it for any rail enthusiast. ^_^
I live in Australia so I won't be going there soon, but I did go to Russia to a Train Museum.
Ah right, that's a shame - the Russian train museum sounds good though, how was that??
All the best,
Sam :)
Sam you should do the East Lancashire railway sometime if u haven't already so many classic DMUs steam and diesel trains
That sounds awesome Cameron - I'd love to go there some time! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Oh wouldn't you have just loved to see one of those go past pulling a 20ft bull on a lowmac
Oh yes - I'm determined to make it happen one day.... not sure how yet! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Can you pleese go to the North yorkshire moors railway and the kighley and worth valley railway please
I'd love to go Callum - I hope I will if I'm ever in the area! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
How ironic I'm driving a steam train at the East Lancaster Railway soon for my birthday two!!
Oooh wow! Well enjoy it mate - I know I did! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
5:50 sams dream! lot o' locos

Cheers,
Sam :)
