I completely agree with you. It immediately gave me chills and brought me to tears by the end. Definitely would have been my #1 of the whole year. But I can’t even listen to it anymore because it makes me sad 😞
This was my winner out of the 18 songs released. For such a weak year we needed a performance like that this year. One more time, Ukraine miss a great chance to win the contest.
I'm so happy you reacted to Alina Pash! This is my winner of 2022. This sets the bar so high. Such a complex act: lyrical content, emotion, styling. I will forever regret not having this in Eurovision, but I'm glad at least I got to witness this live.
When you closed your eyes Alesia, I was thinking “please open your eyes, please.. you must embrace all the visual emotion delivered on the stage as well”. 😂😭❤️ Yeah I’m really sad this song won’t to go Eurovision.
I am totally with you! This is a little masterpiece and it is not only about Ukraine: it's about humankind, a call to remember own culture and not turn into a faceless mediocre product of globalization. Every famous name mentioned in the spoken words/ "rapping" part brings its own deep message. "One for all and all for one" by Dumas is a very timely call for national unity in face of the threat of ruSSia's full-scale war, as well as the need for Picasso's peace dove. The reference to Dante, who wrote "Divine comedy" about the afterlife soul's journey but nowadays could be writing "Divine tragedy", refers to the current imminent danger of sending humankind to the afterlife. Shakespeare is the master of drama bringing up existential questions including the most famous one "To be or not to be". And Alina's call is "To Be!" and to write our OWN history, remembering ancestors, history, and culture, and to leave our own legacy after ourselves, beautiful like fairytales by Grimm brothers. Very clever lines which should speak to all of Europe, but, unfortunately, could be missed by some people. And the bird sounds at the beginning and the end unite us with Nature, the land. And I love the beautiful message in the visuals of her eyes: when it is zooming in, in the depth of each eye another eye keeps appearing, like eyes of generations of ancestors. We are onions with layers created by ancestors, direct or spiritual, coming from different cultures.
i tend to ramble on and on and this is one of those entries i could ramble about, but i'll keep it short and sweet.... This felt like one of those rare entries that felt "bigger than Eurovision," like, more than just an entry in some song contest.
I just love your reaction. With regard to this song, you are able to voice things I'm not able to do. It just goes so deep into you, and, yes, without even knowing the lyrics.
One of most beautiful and amazing song I've heard fro this year contest it really got my thinking in such a weak year so far is really a shame this is not going to eurovision . Beautiful beyond words...
YEES finally, I couldn't wait for your reaction 🤩 I LOVE IT SO MUCH ❤❤ Easily my winner! ❤ LOVE the traditional instruments, native language and other ethnic elements, the dark epic performance, the deep lyrics, the emotions that she gave us... everything ❤ My Slavic heart just melts ❤ I cannot even think about what's going on now... 😭💔It hurts so much that we will not have the opportunity to see her on the Eurovision stage... 😭😭
Her voice, the song, her expression is just perfect. My reaction when I first heard it was similar to yours. I ended up with goosebumps and had it on full blast afterwards... My poor neighbors haha
I feel you gurl…. I’m mad too. This is top tier material for Eurovision. And we can feel that the emotion is real. It hits even harder when we know what Ukraine is going through right now…. This is song is so hauntingly beautiful ✨ I think this would have been my winner this year for sure
This is one of the best songs of Eurovision EVER. I'm really really mad that she cant sing in Turin. I think as a Eurovision fans we have the voice that needs to be appreciated and heard correctly. We can change a lot of things if we want to. We cant let go this song.
This whole situation is sad. My main takeaway is that Ukraine and the broadcaster are allowed to have laws and rules and lines that an artist can't cross. That's their right. And what she's accused of is understandably a big deal. I just wish they did a better job vetting the contestants. How did her infraction slip through the cracks? So, really, if rules are rules ... she shouldn't have been competing in the first place, but, then again, I'm glad I got to see this performed. It's so good. So I'm conflicted.
A-freaking-menI loved this song so much. It's very impactful, but now the only other thing i could do is imagine how much it would have been better on the massive stage in Turin.
I think with the political situation going on in Ukraine and the general climate in Europe at the moment this would really really reaalllyyy have stood a great chance of winning the contest
Obviously we don't know whether Ukraine will be able to participate in Eurovision but God willing they will take to the stage & this is without doubt the song they need to represent them.
The thing is, Alina was ready to deliver the right papers, but decided to give up on participating all-together, so even if Suspilne said "yeah let's send Alina" she'd say no
Don't talk nonsense. She forged the document, no matter how she did it, it would still be possible to change something. But she has committed a crime that is being prosecuted in any country.
Another Jamala moment... arguably better than Jamala. I am still DEPRESSED that Alina isn't representing Ukraine :((( WOuld have brought it back to Kiev 2023
With all going on in Eastern Europe right now, this would've been a landslide victory for Ukraine. Easily! Kalush is great, but this is next level and gives a message to the world.
Exactly what i felt and thought too! In another posting before all the commotion i said that i was fearful something would happen that would cancel its participation and we would be deprived of watching it on the eurovision stage! Such a let down. Pure frustration 🤯
When it comes to the way people reacted to this song not going, I can't help but think no one actually listened. I've seen multiple Ukrainians being against Alina going in the first place and then... I'm sorry but it's not some petty drama. Ultimately she didn't go because of forged documents, and I'm pretty sure that stuff is illegal everywhere (And the Crimea issue is much bigger than Westerners think it is, that's the truth) Plus, while Kalush might have acted "too much" about it, I do believe the NF was rigged, I mean the results going in... And if anyone is more worried about not getting song they liked more than literal war- going through Twitter feels like listening to five year olds. If you think some dumb songs are more important than human lives and rights, that's on you, folks
I'm not Ukrainian, but I'm Polish and I'm also living in fear of how it'll all turn out. I think Westerners completely lack perspective on how it all looks in general, and the way people joke about it and make it all about ESC legitimately makes me disgusted. Everything that's happened last few days was horrible, and if it turns out it will impact Eurovision and people online will be more worried about it than everything else I will actually lose my mind
Here's the thing, i liked the song too, however even tho Eurovision was created to unify Europe,we all know it's going to still take more time to achieve that, Alina was 2nd in the televote and like everything, there's going to be divided opinions some people in Ukraine liked the song and some of them didn't, the problem with Alina and what made most of the Ukrainians feel good with the fact she withdraw, it's the fact she broke the Ukrainian law, i don't necesarily think it's a good thing to prevent artists from participating because of the forbidden travels that law bans, but i do understand why it's something important from Ukranians and why they could feel somehow betrayed by letting an artist like Alina to participate in the representation of their country,History it's always going to be a huge thing in Eurovision wheter you like it or not. Also there were a lot of issues with Vdibir like the results stuff,it wasn't a good organized festival the one they had there.
Alessia, this was in my Top 3. I think this would have challenged for the win. I think it's a pity is not going forward. I do think there would have been a lot of backlash though if it won - politics etc. I think some would claim it won to thumb the nose to Russia.
This was my Favourite! Strangely, 'Stefania' is also my Favourite till now. But this transcends all: My Winner. Will not forget her, nor Maruv. Ukraine: give up the political requisites. Do what you Do SO WELL: Eurovision.
It infuriates me when a war in which people and children die is called politics. I wonder how the Dutch singer would be treated, how she would go to Berlin in 1942 to perform before Nazi criminals?
It took me a few days to process Alina not going :( Ultimately, with everything going on in Ukraine/further invasion and the problems with her documentation, she had to withdraw. It is still so sad.
I’m so mad too, like this song is so powerful, anthemic and spreads hope for these difficult times. The broadcaster should really change this stupid travel rule or should check if the selected artists are following all their restrictions. It’s the second time this shit happened and it really fucking sucks. This would have been such a moment on the Eurovision stage and I really think the locals would get attached to this too. I just can’t believe this happened...😩
Hi there, I love your review of this song, what do your friends think of it, do they like it too? It was my favourite but obviously, the world lost out on a great song and artist.
Sadly Kalush has a bigger following and they had a large promotional campaign to vote for them to win the vote. They also rallied up and spread lies against Alina which resulted in her eventual disqualification
I'm feeling ya, I'm still not over this, I know the rules blah blah, but these rules should not be in a singing competition. Ukraine could have won the whole thing, now its just a bid to qualify.
"We need to have this conversation" Oh, we've had this conversation all week long. Unfortunately, Ukraine is justified in not sending Alina. She allegedly entered Crimea through Russia (which is illegal in Ukraine), and to prove that she didn't, she (or her team) certified that she had entered through Ukraine by submitting forged official documents (which is confirmed and also very much illegal everywhere). The kicker is that she didn't need to do it since the Ukrainian border service doesn't keep records from more than 5 years ago and her trip was in 2015. I liked Alina, but I love Stefania too so I'm just glad that Ukraine is sending an entry (and a great one!) to Eurovision.
.... Here's the problem. Why were these documents not verified BEFORE the competition?!? Before ANY contestant stepped on that stage they should have done their due diligence PERIOD. This isn't their first rodeo. #Noexcuse
@@AlesiaMichelle They tried to but, back then, the border service said they couldn't give information for confidentiality reasons. After she won the contest, allegations came that the documents were forged and I guess the situation escalated until border service finally said that those documents couldn't exist because they destroy records from more than 5 years ago in order to protect privacy (of the travelers, I imagine). Yeah, it was a whole mess.
@@AlesiaMichelle Exactly, and official documents are kept only for 5 years apparently, this was 7, so the documents need not have been sent, and if Kalush people didn't go looking for dirt and that vid surface she would have been ok. Though I think when you said that Ukraine didn't want to win, there might be something in that, Alina had a huge chance this year. But my ultimate opinion is why are these rules in a song competition? They shouldn't be there in the first place, worried she might be pro Russian? That song was a love song to Ukraine FFS. I am sad, she paid a very high price for going to a Wedding 7 years ago and Kalush Orchestra get rewarded for some seriously bad behaviour after throwing their massive tantrum after they lost.
I feel like they might win with that performance/song so they backed out due to drama, similar to maruv's situation, it would have been the televote winner in 2019..
As unfortunate as it was for Ukraine to lose a quality entry, Alina Pash's management team did break the Ukrainian law. The funny thing is, since the Border Service doesn't even store data past 5 years, she could've just easily explain away her Crimea visit however she wants and she wouldn't even need proof to back it up, and the broadcaster could've just given her the benefit of the doubt and let her participate. But the moment that her travel document (provided by her team) was revealed by Border Service to have been falsified, the discourse about her travel to Crimea doesn't even matter as much anymore, because she (or at least someone in her team who produced the fake document) not only broke the broadcaster's rules but also Ukrainian law. Granted, the broadcaster should have done a more thorough job at vetting the artists if they really wanted to adhere to the "no illegal travel" rule so that this situation wouldn't even need to happen, but still. As devastated as I was when she was first withdrawn (even though I liked Kalush better), it's perfectly understandable especially during these difficult times in Ukraine.
No use explaining if and how she allegedly crossed a border, years ago: that should not and cannot be a criterium. This Festival IS about celebrating Unity without Borders. My Heart goes out to All The People in The Region. War is Stupid & Ugly. Give Peace a Chance.
@@ramonholandes7183 Whether or not she crossed the border illegally basically became irrelevant the moment her team decided to submit a falsified travel document. One can deny that she travel to Crimea illegally, but one cannot deny that falsifying an official document is a serious crime, especially a violation of law that was committed to ensure her eligibility to participate in the selection. Nobody wants war, and nobody wants talented artists being denied a chance to showcase their skills on the international stage, but unfortunately this will continue as long as Ukraine's sovereignty and border integrity are under constant threat. (I don't think unity with Russia is exactly what Ukraine wants lol)
I don't want to start to start this conversation but I'm kinda mad at people who started such a big petition, because they want an act in the german national selection that officially and legally didn't make it through to the final, but it seems like no ones cares about not having the real ukrainian winner on the eurovision stage. That would have been such an important message and moment on the stage
TBF: Kalush's song has depth and will definitely be a moment on the stage. The benefit here is that Ukraine's 2nd place was good, but I will miss this on the Eurovision stage. PERIOD.
@@AlesiaMichelle yes it definitely will be a moment and I feel like people will appreciate it just because of the expectancy they'll for Ukraine. But I still feel like it won't be as impactful as Alina's song, at least for me
She got in trouble because her team illegally forged travel documents about her travel. It wasn't that she traveled, it was that the documents supplied were forged and couldn't prove she was approved to travel. Whether she actually went into Crimea legally or not cannot be proven, but what can be proven is that her team's actions were illegal
It is simple this was the one song that stood a chance against Italy this year I mean countries are practically handing it to them at this point and when they do they are gonna be the same people that will be calling it rigged 😬
We will never know the whole story... Ukraine delegation understanding the massive chances at winning that such a powerful song had and needing to withdraw due to money reasons? The forged documents were the only reason for that? The voting drama and complaint by other artists? And of course a country preparing for war... This is really a lot. In any case based on the forged document thing I have to understand and agree with the authorities and say she had to withdraw. However from an artistry point of view and elevation of the standards of the festival, we have lost a powerful gem.
Great, atmospheric song, great vocals, great message, great show, this would have definitely landed in the Top 5, if not Top 3. I'm pissed about the whole situation as well. And it all happened after she allegedly entered Russia through Crimea, which is illegal, although I don't think that any lives were being threatened by doing that either, I probably didn't know enough about it, to speak on that matter. Someone else in the comments wrote that those who came in 2nd betrayed her and outed her to authorities, don't know, if that's true, but if so, this group should be disqualified as well. Someone else wrote that her team forged her travel documents, etc. I don't know what's true. Fact is that this whole Crimea and Russia vs Ukraine situation is probably going to escalate these days, it's a terrible situation for Ukraine and probably Europe or the entire world and way bigger than just an artist not being allowed to go to Eurovision, if they're not withdrawing altogether due to war within their own country. Their new entry, Stefania is good as well and is likely gonna qualify, but it is by no means as strong as Alina's song. PS probably this whole situation wouldn't have been a problem if Russia hadn't annexed Crimea in the first place and then they wouldn't have put those rules into pkace and no one would have kept her travel record, and she would have gone to Eurovision. Yes, this whole Putin situation is...but enough with politics
She was my favorite in Eurovision, unfortunately the delegation destroyed her dream. Sorry Ukraine, you're not my favorite this year PS. Alina is better than Kalush Orchestra ☹️
I am really sad for some Ukrainian artists … the first guy in 2010 and mess around Aliosha … them Jamala winning, then Maruv and now Alina … Do not understand why they invite artists when they know - they could potentionally win … spending money on National slection …. I think the best would be internal selection like Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan or Russia are doing .. Kalush is fine but Alina had better song in MY OPINION. Also if Yugislavia was banned back in day - why Azerbaijan/Armenia, Russia or Ukraine are not either at least for one year. Sorry not sorry but EBU treating some countries in a strange way ..
Yes, the song is good, but... She break the law. And, you know, at Vidbir artist should payed by themselves to have this screens or something else at their performances, so other contestants haven't so much money for this as Alina has. And again - she lied and brake the Law of Ukraine. And I know, you didn't follow Vidbir and didn't watch it at live, but there was something wrong with the results, so this is the reason why all scandal happened. And again - Kalush won by televote, so ... people of Ukraine choose them, so we need to respect their decision... Personally, I like both songs (Alina's and Kalush's), and i hope that in Eurovision Ukraine will do pretty wel this year, because they send something unic as always.
This was the right song for Ukraine to win fairly.
I'm still mad too. Kalush is ok but Alina's song is a true masterpiece plus her voice is so strong and powerful
It’s a shame that Alina will not represent Ukraine. I think she is so outstanding and she could easily be in top 5. Greetings from Serbia 🇷🇸

I think it’s safe to say it would’ve won with even more points than Kalush..

I'm feeling ya, I'm still not over this, I know the rules blah blah, but these rules should not be in a singing competition. Ukraine could have won the whole thing, now its just a bid to qualify.
"We need to have this conversation"
Oh, we've had this conversation all week long.
Song is bad, euro rap is cringe, singer was flat for most of the performance.
.... Here's the problem. Why were these documents not verified BEFORE the competition?!? Before ANY contestant stepped on that stage they should have done their due diligence PERIOD. This isn't their first rodeo. #Noexcuse
@@AlesiaMichelle это коррупция.Так бывает🤣
This would have put a new standard for other songs!
Im mad too
This is not a song, this is an anthem....im very sad but what can we do
I don't want to start to start this conversation but I'm kinda mad at people who started such a big petition, because they want an act in the german national selection that officially and legally didn't make it through to the final, but it seems like no ones cares about not having the real ukrainian winner on the eurovision stage.
But I still feel like it won't be as impactful as Alina's song, at least for me
Told you... It's really sad. They disqualified her just because she travelled to Russia once. :(
She got in trouble because her team illegally forged travel documents about her travel. It wasn't that she traveled, it was that the documents supplied were forged and couldn't prove she was approved to travel. Whether she actually went into Crimea legally or not cannot be proven, but what can be proven is that her team's actions were illegal
@@matthewmoser5863 Anyway, the law itself id very immoral. in the 21st century.
It is simple this was the one song that stood a chance against Italy this year I mean countries are practically handing it to them at this point and when they do they are gonna be the same people that will be calling it rigged 😬
If Ukraine won't have her the UK will!
Honestly, I didn't really like the rapping part but the rest of the song was good
If I'm not mistaking the Ukrainian head of delegation said a 2nd place in the final would be the ideal result for Ukraine, not winning
The on,y entry aside from Italy that I felt had winner potential. So sad we won’t get to see it on the Eurovision stage!
If only she followed the law😔
If only Russia didn't invade Crimea😔
If only Ukraine stop this bullshit about politic
@@daroand9887 yep, there most certainly wouldn't have been such a law if Russia hadn't invaded Crimea, such a shame she can't perform.
Sorry Ukraine, you're not my favorite this year
PS. Alina is better than Kalush Orchestra
☹️
Ukrain again? Is this the 3th time?
