    If that's the initial cross between the banana pepper and the reaper, it's the F1. You will get a lot more variation with its seedlings. I don't know why people wouldn't think this cross would happen since there are plenty of C. chininse X C. annum hybrids out there. The ghostly jalapeno comes to mind. My guess is that tasting just a piece of any of those peppers will let you know if this is a hybrid or not. If one pepper on the plant is a hybrid, they all will be even if they are expressing the genes differently (different phenotypes).

    I'd keep the seeds of the 'runt' and try them next year anyways. As they said in Jurassic Park, "Nature finds a way"

      Tom Bednarchuk of the runt? I would save them from the ones you feel look the best. I definitely wouldn’t pick the weakest one like this guys said cuz it will just breed weak peppers.

    Plants that aren't stabilized absolutely grow different pods on the same plant. It happens in F1/2s and I've had plants produce what we're about three different varieties on one Scorpion variety, looked like Butch T's, Morugas, and regular Trinidad scorpions. They all were similar in taste and heat but totally varied in their appearance.

    Interesting and VERY cool... I have an active F1 cross between a Jalapeno and a Bell Pepper: on average the fruit is about 4 in long. The Bell trait fruit is like a very narrow Bell while the Jalapeno trait fruit is round like a typical Jalapeno BUT WITH 4 CORNERS ON THE BOTTOM. Some fruits are hot like a Jalapeno and some sweet and some seem sweet and hot. The seeds are extremely bitter and inedible IMO. Hope I can get the 4-corner Jalapeno trait preserved in the F2. I call them FAT BOYS cuz they are the fattest Jalapeno shaped peppers but with 4 corners.

    Capsicum annuum has been shown to be able to produce fertile seeds when crossed to Capsicum chinense. I'd grow out a handful of seeds from your f1 plant you have here. The seeds within this fruit are the f2 seeds the way you have described this. I would love to see the next generation.

    actually it is possible for a pepper to become a hybrid if it's in the same family so yes it is possible the 60% need to do the research it's not impossible I'm not trying to insult anyone either I'm just informing

    Dont see why this wouldnt work. Banana is C. annuum and a reaper is a C. chinense X C. frutescens X C. chinense. F1 seeds should be at least partially fertile. Right?

    I got a question Last season I had burrito pepper ghost pepper and jalapenos Now I took seeds from one of my ghost peppers that looked the best And I spent all the season you know mending them and growing them and now that they're starting to produce peppers the peppers are growing upright like the burrito pepper Rita pepper and I know I took the seeds only only from the ghost pepper Is it possible that they cross pollinated because I don't remember the ghost peppers growing straight up like that

    Is it the F2 generation - then probably just a runt. If the F3 generation - then probably 90% Runt 10% not. If the F4 generation - Then perhaps 75 & 25 and so on in each generation. Mendal's experiment with the wrinkled peas. God Bless

  • @johnsmith-ch7fg

    No harm in it but this arguably isn't a good way to try to breed since if one parent is a F1 it will send out it's F2 variations on it's side. F1s great if they work out but if your breeding it's better to have both the parents have stable characteristics

    • @Growyourheirlooms
      @Growyourheirlooms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I planted a carolina reaper plant and we planted sweet bell peppers all around it without thinking. I fried up some bell peppers and onions and to my surprise those bell peppers are spicy. Not reaper hot but they are jalapeno hot. I had to go look at the tag to make sure it wasn't a mistake. Sure enough they are orange sweet bell peppers. But they are actually small, bright red, and spicy. They smell and look like mini bell peppers. I wish I could post pics on here.
