    Last week I tried to pollinate my cayenne with pollen from the chocolate habanero (store bought - not from seed) but we got a heat wave and I think that did it, the flower dropped. I had put a small piece of twist-tie to mark it, but I'll try again with your method. I've crossed other varieties of plants in the past, just not peppers!
    Others I have that are flowering, orange habanero, red scotch bonnet, and trinidad scorpion. Later in the season should see carolina reapers, scotch orange brains, a more traditional labuyo from the gf's old country, orange bells, and we'll see what else.
    Keep the amazing videos coming man. I think a lot of people are seeing these and learning these simple, yet productive ways of growing one's own food. You should see my kratky lettuces, spinach, bokchois, swiss chards, its awesome! Thank you so much for showing us all these skills!

    Khang I think I’ve done it, my “almost heatless” Carolina reaper is now about as hot as a habanero in most cases and Is practically the same as a jalapeño In some cases. I’m surprised it only took about 3 years to get it to be like this but it’s bigger than a reaper but still has the same shape. It is a hybrid btw

      Khang Starr Thanks! I only have one plant right now but I have some extra seeds i just harvested. I’m most likely going to grow them out for any particularly great pods but I can send some your way if you ever want them.

      Khang Starr Great! When the low heat seeds produce, I’ll send you a pack of seeds along with a pod so you can guarantee getting them to grow and be able to try one. They are still a little unpredictable though and there have been times I bit into one thinking it would be low heat but instead the wrath of a volcano was unleashed onto me.

    Hi I know it's an old video, but hopefully you might be able to help me.
    I tried various crossings outdoors but the flowers always drop with the zip bags ( I tried multiple times cutting the bag to get more airflow but still no luck)
    I managed to build small bags out of paper tea bags that work partially, because still they drop from the flower when they get wet from rain or dew.
    It would be incredibly easy if I just left the emasculated and pollinated flowers without any covering, but I'm afraid they will cross with unwanted pollen.
    Will insects come to emasculated flowers without any petals?
    Can they be pollinated by wind with unwanted pollen? If left uncovered?

    Hi Khang, great video by the way. Now, how long do you leave the bag on for after you see the pepper if you don't mind me asking. Also, I'm thinking of growing eight different varieties between two 2ft x 2ft grow tents but I don't want them cross pollinating as I want to try the original pepper. I plan to keep them pruned and small. Is it a bad idea to have four different varieties in each tent? I purchased eight different varieties of seeds and want to try them all ol. Cheers and thanks 👍

    • @kevinp8440
      @kevinp8440 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      pa maj, once pepper has formed, you can remove the bag but make sure you label it.
      If you can keep the plant alive over winter, you can just eat the peppers from the original plants without worrying it cross pollinating. However if you want to keep the seeds from the original plants, then you will have to isolate the plants or isolate the flowers and pollinate as shown in this video with the original plant’s pollen. Hope this helps.
