  • This was fast turning in to a two hour video so I've broken it down in to 2 parts, Part 1 is about constructing the diorama base and feature building and part 2 will be mostly painting and final assembly.
    Gero Design asked me a while ago if I'd like to try some of their products and they were kind enough to send me a selection of their paving slabs, cobbles and kerbs along with a few other bits and pieces. The only proviso was that if I liked their stuff, would I mention it in a video if I used them. I'm happy to report that I think they're great and are thoroughly recommended. You can find more of their diorama products here - www.gero-design.com/ #gerodesign2016
    If you're interested in the XPS Insulation foam I use for the building, this is where I get mine 👍
    www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THIN-CRAFT...
    The base materials are Foam sheet, paving stones etc from Gero Design and AK Interactive Diorama Effects, Dry Ground and Light Earth

    You placed all those cobblestones individually, by hand......you have the patience of a saint.

    A trick I learnt when casting was to use rinse aid in the water one to wash molds in and then in the mix, just a couple of drops is enough cuts down on bubbles.

    I love this, it is such a great combination of shaping and sculpting some diorama features by hand, others with the means of a computer and a 3D printer. It brings the best of both worlds together. Very impressive to see that and the result is perfect Ian!

    Thought I’d tuned into the wrong channel when I saw the Lego coming out....🤭
    Some fine ideas & techniques in your building, the design & use of the 3D printer is really smart👌 Cool detail on the interior of the building, liking how you did the slates for the roof too, far cheaper than buying anything online. Going to look smart when finished with the barricades etc... building really sets it all off nicely!

    Looks brilliant and the techniques and where/when you deploy them just seem spot on. Thank you. I am keen to have a go at something similar and wonder if it would be possible for you to share some of the measurements or maybe even better your diagram for this building that I could extrapolate from. People often tell em the answer is 'what looks right' but I can never quite get my head around what the dimensions of these things should be and just one example would be awesome to get me started. Also what package do you draft the design in - from a post above I am guessing it may be some Architect's software out of my reach? Whatever, the videos are brilliant and one of my favourites, thank you.

    • @CWModelling
      @CWModelling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm afraid I'm another one who just does 'what looks right' ......this building is approx 35cm tall but all the windows and doors are based around the size of a 1/35 figure......I know roughly how tall in a doorway I am and just make approximations from there by using my own 1:1 house as a reference against my own body ie I'm around 1.8m tall and if I stand on tip toe I can touch the ceiling, so I just measure the arm of a 1/35 figure, add it to the figures height and I have a rough ceiling height for a model......photographs of buildings also help with proportion........I deleted the CAD drawings after I'd created the files I needed for 3D printing but the software is called Vectorworks, which is a professional 2D/3D drawing package that I use for my day job👍
