Hatts off to The Print for venturing into a less talked about area. Upsc toppers are made no less than the celebraties by the media. But at the same, the journey and the struggle of the people who did not find their name in the merit list must also be shown.

During my 20s, after graduation from IIT, I also had family pressure to pursue UPSC but being good in Mathematics, I found that the success rate was 0.0001% so I immediately gave up the idea of entering this $hithole. Today I am proud of my decision, I spent my 20s cheerfully, spent quality time with friends, later got married with my love. And today living a comfortable life with my family without any remorse 😊

    लोगो ने life के 8-10 साल invest किए upsc की preparation में, तब उनको महसूस हुआ कि they're not for UPSC.
Despite belonging to SC category, I invested only three years of my life in UPSC preparation and i was lucky मुझे सिर्फ 3 साल में ही पता लग गया कि i was also not for UPSC and then i gave up.
For backup plan, i had already chosen Law and now i am continuing with it.
    अब UPSC preparation से मिली बहुत सारी चीज़े वकालत में और मेरी personal life में काम आती हैं।
    Message to UPSC aspirants:-
    At the end, UPSC preparation कभी waste नही जाती, ये व्यक्ति को जीवन में कहीं और success दिला देती है; कहीं और सफलता न भी दिलाए, अन्ततः अच्छा इन्सान तो ज़रुर बना देती है।

I was a very good student throughout topper. My parents were very proud of me. Left decently paying job in placement and entered UPSC to make my parents proud . 8 years later I haven't cracked this exam and all my attempts have gone. I was very good student who won many national level Olympiads. I don't know what happened. Worst part is my parents are no longer proud of me. My cousins who never worked hard like me earn more than me today because they have 8-10 years experience in industry . My knowledge of Laxmikanth, NCERT, Economic Survey, RS Sharma has zero market value. I still don't know what went wrong.

Tbh, I didn immersed myself in books and may be I am not selected but seeing that after giving so much what if I fail and the regret if you don't study. This stress eventually made me realise that I am happy with corporate job. I don't want to be proved as a failure, I will do along with job. I want to live life and expectations kills. I took a lot of time to transition from ias to private jobs but both are good. Also a lot of people who wasted my, time during prep don't even talk now, behaves weirdly. I laugh and feel I should have given more time to studies rather than uselsss relationships tht don't care about ur existence. Now I enjoy life, feel regretful about wrong choices and people whom I was friends with who took away my positivity. But anyway, law of karma works.
And I hope I will be successful in earning money as much as I want by learning skills rather than daydreaming and wasting my time.
No social connect isolation was never my cup of tea that I realised later. I am happy studing for shorter duration and I was a topper thruout anyway, I wanted to opt for this but I think this is not for me. I wasted a lot of time to even leave upsc but I think this is right for me.

I completely agree 2022 I gave my 5th attempt couldn't able to clear and this year not eligible for last attempt. Last 7 years my life contained into two aspects my job and my upsc preparation and failing in 2022 and before failures made me very cynical about myself undervaluing my self confidence towards life. Even with my spine issue in 2020 and its surgery in 2021 I still gave attempts in 2021 and 2022 with the belief that I'll clear upsc this time.
This video has been very positive for me because now I realize in past 7 years I kept myself surrounded with my job and upsc dreams and neglected my life completely, isolating with outside world.
Now I letting myself into do something more constructive and engaging with people and world.
I would say having a dream is good but dreams like upsc or other government examination has some limitations and few seats. If you are not able to clear examination in 3 or 4 attempts look for another aspect of life. Life is big and future is unknown, no one knows what's destiny has planned for you.

I didn sacrifice such things, so may be I am not in the list but also I felt that what if I had done all this and did not clear. I am happy like this only at least I know that I could have given more time to upsc but it's depressive journey was not something that I can pull it off. Selection is meagre. It is a waste of time
I would suggest to go and do a job and enjoy life. Upsc will tear u up that even after hard work u won't get anything. None of my friends cleared. Wastage of 6 years. You will be proud initially but after a while u ll realise that huge competition and selection is 0.001% .
I tell myself that it's ok may be I could have studied but corona and everything didn let me study. But transitioning to other field also takes time when I knew my efforts could hve been more. Imagine what people who have studied so hard didn clear. Their mental strength must have gone to zero. How much taunt they have to hear even I hear at times. But anyway I am out of it and I am happy.

The entire video has an essence of subtle sadness and pain. It's just heartbreaking to see talented people in depression and regret and the worst part is that the stories of these people are only a drop in the ocean. There are numerous students with more worse stories.
I just wish failure wasn't so hard and life could be a little more fair to genuinely good people.
    This just made me cry.🙏

In this era where ias has been turned into a cult and it's no more a simple recruitment exam, I really thank The Print for bringing up this dark side of the story which the world often prefers to overlook.

Bitter truth of UPSC. Prepare, try your best and give attempts. If you feel you're stuck, get the f out of there. Life is full of opportunities. Go, try new things, passion, hobbies etc. Find yourself, UPSC is not only an option, there are hundreds of other things to try. Don't take life so seriously that an event make you stuck on it. No matter what, life keeps going in any circumstances. Keep going. Do what makes you happy, don't think you're a failure, no, no one is failure here. Everyone's hero. Play your role. Be yourself.

Much appreciation for the print to showing the more than 99% face of the UPSC. My heart really goes out to them. UPSC should restricted it to for 1or 2 attempts only. Our youth have a way more potential than preparing for UPSC or any other govt exams just for the sake of power or the relaxed govt job. We as a nation have to go much far and for that this has to be stopped.

Kudos to the print for acknowledgement.. M so fortunate to know Nitish Garg personally nd I know how he poured his soul into the preparation but m glad 😊 govt started to give some recognition ... Nitish Garg said it so beautifully " chakravyuh se niklna bht jaruri hai " and yes at the end ur sanity is all that matters.

More than 1-2 lakhs of students prepare for UPSC at a time with no job or already left their job, we here success stories of only 0.01% who gets the limelight but 99% aspirants remains in darkness. The world never gets to know the hard work or sacrifices of the remaining 99%.

People search for those who cleared the examination. But they need to keep in mind the reality we often don't get to see. Majority of the aspirants who appear for this examination don't qualify and their struggles are often ignored. Those who succeed create history but those who fail make us aware of the reality that even less than one percent of the aspirants crack this examination. The process of preparation is tedious and covering the syllabus itself is a herculean task. People often feel isolated, anxious and depressed during this process....
Kudos to these aspirants for opening up about their journey of preparation. 🙌
