I agree. Although the duality of criteria by the judges in the last wave was a bit suspicious, considering that the timing was just too convenient: they underscore (by their criteria on the majority of the event so far) the last wave of a heat that would knock a fan favourite vs a wild card... And I say this when I'm a big JJF fan
@@dawsonbolus I personally agree, it 100% was. What I'm saying is that in a different situation the scores are going in the way of a bigger/more perfect wave, which Mihimana's was
@@JoaoRodrigues-ic2dv I get that. It depends what the head judge feels is the best and then he sways the other judges. IMO there should be no head judge
John's 7.6 was in the neighborhood of a 9+, so deep, so difficult and maybe the longest barrel of the event. Respect to Mihimana, extremely consistent.
Anyone who understands that Jjf is sliding out on purpose, using that to his advantage understands backhand tube slowing… probably not on the drops, although used to his advantage…but on his 7.6 for sure, there’s no other way to slow down that much, and hence the claim. That was not by mistake, pure sensitivity
This heat should not have been this close. JJF's waves -- and technique -- were 2 - 3 points better than Braye. To put it in context, Slater scored a 9.73 for something less dynamic or difficult than what JJF did here.
Shouldn't have been this close. Brayes barrels were big and clean but easy. Johns 7.6 was a much higher level than Brayes 8 plus. Correct result but again poor judging influenced by buzz beater / local hero combination. Just saved themselves.
Amazing surf. Glory to the Creator Who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them. He also came to save us by dying for us on the cross. And rising from the dead.
I think it’s more about their competitiveness rather than a claim. They’re in a competition and both want to win, it wasn’t like they were claiming it’s the best wave of their lives.
@@Sweetheart_of_the_rodeo so by waving your arms around you are able to gain more points? Or if you claim then the judges will look at you more? Just curious if claiming is able to give you an advantage somehow
I noticed that. It was a way for him to stall for the barrel. But the woman announcer had no idea he was doing that on purpose. Great board control by JJF
Heart break for the local boy but bit refreshing to see judges rewarding skill over catching a more perfect wave

@@JoaoRodrigues-ic2dv They rewarded the late hair-raising drop straight into the barrel as more difficult/critical than braye's wave
catching a perfect wave is a skill

Unmatched for technical ability in backhand barrels, ridiculous what Johns doing with his board

John is wranglin’ barrels that literally nobody else on the planet could make. And getting 7s
great heat. seems accurately judged too

bring back the old commentators, this is impossible to listen to.
bring back contests are for kooks
I agree !00%
That claiming from the local was out right embarrassing
You cooks comment behind your screen can even go on a 3 feet waves at tchops is what is embarrassing to me
Screw this... JJ is too good for the WSL. The judges are blind.
The local should have made that heat , open your eyes the wave was big and clean , if the roles were inversed john would have got the score
Yes, the wave was big and clean ..... and easy. Braye couldn't do what JJ was doing in the barrel in a million years.
JJF surfing IQ is top tier!

Maybe as the surfer riding a visually sick wave has more adrenaline/ satisfaction than watching from the channel commentating 😅
