    I love new models and have been driving BMWs, among others, since 1980. Back then it was an R90S. This month I had to make the decision whether it should be a new R1250GS, an F850GS or an F900GS. I would have had to wait for the 900, but I compared the facts. After extensive test rides on both, the R1250GS was ruled out for me. The F850 GS is much more approachable and sporty. Just awesome! I have 5 motorcycles. Among others, a K1600GT and a KTM 890 Duke R. The F900GS actually impresses me less. In summary, I think it's a marketing move on paper with a serious improvement over the F850GS. The horsepower is "marketing horsepower" because the additional power of the 900 only occurs above 8,000 rpm. Below, the 850 and 900 engines are almost the same. It may be that the 900 feels more powerful because it has a shorter gear ratio. I find that disadvantageous because the 850 revs relatively high on the highway. In daily use, the driving values and impressions will hardly differ. I compared the dyno charts, but unfortunately I can't post them here. The 900 was needed because of Euro5+ and the marketing horsepower deficit compared to KTM. Besides, the 900 engine was already in production anyway and now they just need one made. The F 900 will never match the driving values of a KTM 890 Adv. or Husky 901, but the BMW engine is much more refined than the KTM/Husky LC8c. I know the LC8c well from my KTM 890 Duke R. The new adjustable Showa fork on the 900 is a significant improvement over the rubber fork on the 850. The F900GS is not 14kg lighter than the F850 GS...at least not in the BMW information about the models on the internet. It weighs “only” 10kg less than the F850GS… and oops… F900GSA is even two kg heavier than the F850GSA (246kg vs. 244kg). As with the R1300GS, the 900 GS tank is half a liter smaller than its predecessor... is that supposed to be a joke? The 850 tank is already too small. Design is a matter of taste. I think the 850GS is nicer and more dignified. e.g. The rear frame triangle looks cheap on the 900 because it is hardly covered like on the 850. The Vario case holders are completely missing! It looks like some of the weight saving also came from fewer and smaller panels up front and that looks cheap too in my opinion. The elimination of the taillight, as on the 1300GS, is certainly a weight saving. I think it looks terrible on both (the 1300 and 900)... but as I said... a matter of taste! From what I heard, the old Vario cases no longer fit the 900GS. But I haven't been able to confirm that yet. Ultimately, the 900GS costs $1000 more (list price) than the 850GS and there are no discounts or preferential financing. I got $2000 off my new 2023 F850GS. BMW also offers 1.9% financing for 60 months (0% for 36 months is also offered!). But to each his own.

      @chadkline4268 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@derache123 my 1971 R60/5 has 2 19in wheels. It makes no sense to have little rear wheels. Why have a 21in front and 17in rear? Whatever the front wheel needs to roll over, the rear wheel needs to also roll over. In addition to ground clearance, the purpose of a large wheel is to make it easier to roll over obstructions and make riding smoother on uneven ground.
      What's good for the front is good for the rear. I don't understand the reasoning.

    • @derache123
      @derache123 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@chadkline4268 The difference is that you steer with your front wheel. You don't steer with your rear wheel. When you're rolling over rocks and other larger obstacles off road, a bigger front wheel provides more stability. Increasing the size of the rear wheel would provide little benefit in this regard, in comparison to increasing the size of the front wheel.
      But my first comment was primarily that most offroad focused ADV bikes use a 21/17 or 21/18 setup, so it will be very difficult to find ADV tires for a 19 inch rear wheel.

    • @chadkline4268
      @chadkline4268 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@derache123 ok, I have no agenda except understanding. It is the width of the front wheel that is more important for steering on various terrain, not the diameter, in my experience. I think these things are being done to accommodate women and short men, just like the scooped out seats, which cause 15% of all accidents to involve serious injuries to the groin. The mfrs are trying to market to short people for profit instead of engineering for performance and safety. That's my view.

    Gosh, BMW really screwed up the look of their designs(cars & motorcycles). The Gs from that epic front end to an unavoidable ants face, not to mention the new 1300 👾
