Just received my Lord Rodney this morning in Australia from AJM Railways (UK). I was surprised how good it looks for just $220 or 121 GBP including postage to here. A lot of nice locomotive for decent money. Thankfully NO imperfections, damage, missing parts or paint blemishes either ! Guess I might have been quite fortunate .........
Thank You James, Hard to say for me as a Dutch-man and the layout belongs to my UK friend and very competent train doctor Tony ! This Lord Rodney I just choose because I like its appearance and its good quality. Apart from a little Bachmann Prairie it is my only British steamloco. Tony has swapped the Zimo decoder of my old Bachmann Lord Nelson into my new Lord Rodney. I will see him tomorrow and will forward your question although I expect it is not especially Southern-based.
I just ordered one, the Lord Rodney. Keep my fingers crossed after having seen that retarded BS on your boiler ! How did you go with that because I would have been extremely annoyed ! Apart from that I think it is a nice well detailed loco. I have an other loco from Hornby, the BR blue class 87035 which fortunately is without "jokes". Cheers, Jan
Sorry for the defect on this loco but AGAIN another PROOF that Quality Control in China SUCKS ! You're not alone, plenty of quality issues with their products smashed together by incompetent workers. A real shame and Hornby doesn't do a thing to correct this... ask me how I know...! Send it back is my advice or ask a refund for that's only fair ! Cheers and thanks for sharing.
Obviously modelling standards have changed since the 1980s, but the stuff built in Britain from back then is clearly much better. Hattons have kindly agreed to replace the model and I'll be uploading a subsequent review soon!
Good luck ! I bought a J15. Came defect. Hattons kindly replaced it and it ran on DC but not on TTS. Took it apart and found loose pickup wire shorting the TTS. Repaired it myself but it was a half a day frustration. I finally learned my lesson with Hornby for it is not the first time trouble strikes with their junk from China !
Very nice video James. Thank you for the excellent history. I would one of these models.
Very nice review. Look forward to the next part.
Thank you. The update will depend on when Hattons/Hornby get back to me, so stay tuned!

That's great news! Do you have a Southern-based layout?
