I just picked up a 2014 WRX hatch that my son and I are going to do a small build on. Nothing crazy, just want to get it up into the 400hp range. Great little cars. Thanks for sharing
I have a 13 hatch with a new block from the dealership still under warranty, whats your build plan for the 400?
Hatch is the best
400hp is crazy
Just FYI… 400 in a WRX is quite the build, especially if you are looking wheel horsepower. Definitely invest in forged internals. I also recommend getting the underdrive kit from GFB, only downside is that you cannot run a lightweight flywheel with it. That kit really brings the engine to life.
I’ve been a wrx guy since 2006. I also own 2 Subarus but from the prior era, GD. I have a 2005 Saab 92x aero, it’s a wagon. And a 2002 wrx sedan, full jdm STi swapped. I’m 58yo, safe to say I’ll die owning both cars, hopefully the next owner will also know how to maintain and preserve them. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching and awesome story
Gotta love ‘‘em stock!
Never really realized how nice this generation looked with the widebody. My buddy had the previous gen STI and that was the only Subaru I drove or rode in at the time. Great video, nice cars.
Thank you for watching and liking the video. They are great cars and really hard to find good examples. The experience driving one of these older generation Subarus is like no other.
narrow bodies should never have been a thing lol

im saving up for a subie as a everyday driver and im falling in love with the wrx then the sti, yea the sti is a cooler car but the comfortability of the wrx is winning my mind right now
I loved my WRX, was a manual, premium, 2013 hatch, had no problems for 10 years driving it like I stole it
Nice
Did it happen to be purple 😅

Hey Champ , great Video. With the Engines,
The WRX has an ej255 which is an open deck block. It also has cast pistons and rods. Main issue is the bores do not have the structural rigidity of the EJ257.
Both suffer from ring land issues due to the Cast piston design. Some also say that the bore being thinner compared to the EJ207 can cause head gasket failure as well.
The EJ257 has forged rods however still has Hyperetic pistons.
The other improvement is the cylinder heads having dual VVT and other improvements.
Turbo chargera are different between the two as well.
You have two awesome cars and can tell you take care of them .
I'm almost positive that all ejs are technically open decks. The 2.0 has more cylinder wall that can make up for having an open deck when it comes to making power.
All engines have forged rods though, it's the pistons in almost all ejs that have hyper pistons except some sti years. The cranks on all ejs are forged and they have to be because of their size and the structural points added to make it a boxer and not a flat 4. Not trying to be a dick, I thought I was dumb for not knowing all rods are forged. Makes sense when you think about it though. They need to have that rigidity to rebound the combustion into usable rotational energy
@@bennyboyy7 you are wrong, they are not ej205 is the only boosted motor that is open deck .
Most of would love one, but you got two!! Great guy
We agree!
nice vid thanks man :)
Glad you liked it! Thanks for following
It must be so sick to own 2 hatchbacks. Man I want an sti hatchback in world rally blue. That is my next purchase soon🙌 congrats on having 2 of them
Appreciate it!
fun vid, I have from new a 2014 wrx limited hatch in gray. Its been a great Subaru to own ...the only thing I did to mine was I reallly hated the stock tune. Throttle response was awful in stop and go traffic..After much deliberation I bought a COBB AccessPort and did the minimum Stage 1 tune. No mods other than the ECU .. and wow, what a better driving car and more power ~17%
Thanks for following the channel. I agree with you on the stock Impreza WRX tune for the EJ255 5 speed. It’s not performance driver out of the box. My STI has the Factory SI drive modes so that helps with throttle response. Not really concerned to tune that car at this moment.
how much mileage on your motor? I'm on a stock tune and feel that that extra power would be great! Reliabilty still excellent for just a daily driver??
@@LucasRider WRX 49,000 and the STI is just over 51,000 on Chassis and Powertrain
@@LucasRider 100,000km/60,000miles on my car ...do it...91octane stage 1 or 94oct stage 1 tune for slightly more power without sacrificing anything. I settled on the 91 stage 1 so I can get gas anywhere.
I’ve been searching for a video comparing these two since I got my car a year ago lol. Now I just have to try and find a good comparison between the 2014 and 2015 wrx. Not the STIs. Surprisingly hard to find.
Both cars are in pristine shape. Congrats!
Thank you sir
Love your videos man, quick question. Do you know why your WRX STI seems to have a sunstrip meanwhile your WRX does not have a windshield suntrip? My 2011 WRX STi doesn't have a windshield strip.
In my case It’s doesn’t look like the original windshield.
nice cars, love the hatchback
Thanks!
a 13-14 wrx hatch has been my dream car for a very long time. i have my wife, two kids (10 and 12), and a baby boy on the way. Is it time to hang it up? granted, whatever car i get we would still primarily commute in my wifes corolla. a lot of people around me tell me i just need to get an suv. i have wanted this car for years and i feel like im giving up on it, as to the fact production ended 10 years ago the longer i wait the harder/ more expensive it will be to aquire one in decent shape.
Are the ej255s and 257s more reliable than the ej20-25s? I know they did a few things to these years to upgrade them. Did they fix the head gasket issue?
EJ non turbo applications had the majority of head gasket issues. The turbo applications such as EJ255 and EJ257 used Multi Layer Steel Gaskets so those engines had less problems with head gasket failures.
Just curious, did you purchase both of these when they were brand new, back in 2014? If so, what made you want to have one of each model?
I am second owner on each one. Experience the Drive difference and have one daily and one auto cross.
@@WRxSTiGuy very nice Robert. Pretty cool to own both. I used to have a 2012 WRX hatch. Currently looking to get into a 23' Golf R, DSG. My attainable dream car.
Wrx daily. STI weekend/track car
Nice video. But as long as it’s ej257, it’s GRF. Like GDF GVF VAF, B stands for ej207 JDM spec.

I need to stop reading on the internet. That link suggests totally different. Thanks for watching and the compliment.
@@WRxSTiGuyyeah, the export and jdm local have different chassis code. All Export sti are ending with F
@@yizhouwang7904 yes I will stick to the GR and GD. I never heard anyone call it GRF or GDF but that’s my experience. Neither B or F. 😂
I ordered a 2011 WRX Limited wagon from the factory. Dealers told me they got multiple calls the minute it hit their inventory. Got it modded up, Koni's, Perrin strutbar, Cobb Stage 1 tune, Michelin SuperSports, Dynamatt, etc.
Makes this makes me miss it.
Wish i had the heated seats. Wonder how hard of an install that is .
Don’t know for sure
Make sure if you buy any Subaru product you have plenty of head gaskets laying around, your gonna need them.
I never had a problem and I owned too many of them throughout the decades. Thanks for the input. 👍🏻
Never realised that the wrx had the same wide arches as the STI.
Only 2011-2014 did the Impreza WRX have the factory wide-body look like the WRX STI.
You learn something every day, Thank you!@@WRxSTiGuy
Which one feels faster to you?
Both were stock. Overall driving use it’s The STi
Love the GR hatch, if you ever want to trade i got a 2017 WRX w/ almost 80k.
For me it starts with 2004 GDB and ends with GRB 2014. Had 2021 STi and was bored with it.
Bro we know the differences, we want to know about the experience, and preference
I have many videos on those subject matters. Check them out on the channel. th-cam.com/video/6A3IUxec5wg/w-d-xo.html

I still 100% believe there going redo this car with the imprezas body style now, give it the wrx cladding and the bad boii will have a 6 speed and the Subie performance transmission(SPT). I heard really really good things from the 22 and 23 wrx SPT. Yeah 6 speeds are cool but this SPT they put in it now is impressive and basically would buy wrx hatch with the spt.
Yes it’s called the Levorg STI
