I think the Rusty Regiment could have won if they had added one key piece: a grab bar. It should have been mounted in front of them (attached to the central axis and extended so it nearly touched the rim), which would have allowed them to keep standing upright instead of slipping and falling down while in the water. Plus, they could have been able to stand farther forwards going uphill and thus produce more power when they really needed.
I think the best solution to this is a boat with two bikes welded to either side, with the steering on the front two bikes connected. In water, its simply powered by a couple of sets of oars.
it's not editing, this was a broadcast MPEG that lost some sections, including losing the timecode stamps. playback reconstruction of MPEG streams with missing bits often results not only in jumps but some fragments being inserted out of order. it is what it is: we are lucky someone has these old shows at all, from an era when not everyone had access to digitised recording capability.
