I love how these two interact. He often calls her "old goat" but there is hardly if any malice in there. There's also this very familiar, if not respectful air between them, especially what he feels for her. And her continuous teasing and pushing his every button, really shows that she probably helped raise him, and she does, did care for him, and wish he chose another path. I just really, really love it.
It is almost a direct contradiction of his character, given that he threw out his father's throne because it was a stinging reminder of his family that despised him. The ram is a living reminder of his depraved youth and constantly admonishes him, yet he chooses to keep her around. One could argue that he requires her clairvoyance to succeed against his enemies, but that wouldn't be the entire reason. His supercilious manner conveys little respect for her soothsaying, but his expression of fear is apparent when he destroys her scrying bowl. He even fires her in the traditional way instead of killing her, directly proving that he respects her a bit.

What's funny is that, to Shen, this is a major moment in his life, all about him meeting and overcoming his destiny. To Po, Shen starts out as just some random bad guy he needs to stop.
There's a lot of things I love about this scene.First, it shows Shen in a vulnerable state. He openly expresses fear for who his enemy is. He's rehearsing for his confrontation with Po. You can clearly see by the look in his eyes that he's afraid of Po. He's afraid of what Po stands for. He's afraid that the Soothsayer's prophecy will come to pass. It's always so refreshing to see the villain in a vulnerable state like this. It makes them more relatable and down to Earth. Second, the kind of relationship he has with the Soothsayer. She constantly teases him and prods him and despite him being evil, he never lays a finger on her. He is fully willing to kill Master Rhino, Po, the Furious Five, and an entire village of innocent pandas. He's even willing to kill his own henchmen. Yet, he never inflicts harm on her no matter what she says or does to him. They certainly have a special bond that he respects, which is also refreshing to see. He's not entirely a monster. I think even his bio that DreamWorks made for him stated that he never wanted to take over China, but went through with his plans anyway bc he didn't want the pain he inflicted on others to have been for nothing. Because of all this, I say Lord Shen is one of the best villains ever made

The reason why he's so memorable is because he's so ruthless, he will stop at nothing to get what he wants, despite clearly feeling insecure about his physical shortcomings and reliance on his wolves to attain his goals. But this? This "woe is me" bull about him not really wanting to commit genocide and destroy all of China in his bid for world domination? Yeah, no. No no no. That's so obviously just some marketing intern desperately trying to retcon a great villain cuz a few mommies complained that the movie was too dark.

I like the difference between Shen and Tailung. Tai, when he finds out his opponent is a panda just makes fun of him. Shen sets out to kill all the pandas, making him the better villain. It shouldn't matter who your opponent is, you need to take your fights seriously.
But he DOESN'T take Po seriously though. He laughs at him too, he's just not as blunt with it as Tai Lung was. He even tells Po outright that the only reason he doesn't instantly kill him is because he finds him "mildly amusing".
She reminded me of a grandmother,or in this case, an old caretaker who watched him turn from a tender child to a now cruel tyrant. He could have killed her for telling him what he did not want to hear, but whatever wisdom and respect he had left in him kept him from that.One can see even his own men respect her to a degree.
Such a unique character..... Peacocks are innocent and beautiful but Shen a villainous, sly peacock that differentiates the personality of ALL peacocks in general
The soothsayer is one of my favorite types of characters: smart, on the ‘side’ of evil, but not evil. She’s the one who still sees good in Shen, she cares for him, but she will not personally do wrong. I love those types of characters.

God I love Shen, he is my favorite villain in Kung Fu Panda. He is the one Villain that actually has a lasting affect on Po's life and outside of other characters, you can see, and sometimes even feel the broken sanity of Shen. And while he doesn't have Kung Fu, he is still skilled enough to take on Kung Fu masters with a certain degree of ease.

This is what I like to see in villains. Not just a deep, old English, monotone monologue they thought off immediately. Shen really express how he wants every detail and memory of him to be his way of perfection to even practise it
Is no one going to mention the five seconds of animation we got that the animators REALLY REALLY didn't have to animate cause basically no one would see it and yet THEY DID AND IT LOOKS GORGEOUS!?! Watch 0:06 at like .5 speed and you'll see just how much detail is hiding in this scene. It's insane.
Even though tayloon is physically stronger, but shen is by far my favorite villian in the 3 movies. His design,skills are way too good. As well as the manipulation he got. Tbh the second best dreamwork villian.

Is no one going to mention the five seconds of animation we got that the animators REALLY REALLY didn't have to animate cause basically no one would see it and yet THEY DID AND IT LOOKS GORGEOUS!?! Watch 0:06 at like .5 speed and you'll see just how much detail is hiding in this scene. It's insane.

Even though tayloon is physically stronger, but shen is by far my favorite villian in the 3 movies. His design,skills are way too good. As well as the manipulation he got. Tbh the second best dreamwork villian.
As far as I'm concerned. Lord Shen is one of the best villains in cinematic history.

Say what you will about Shen's mental state, but crazy or no, he has style and an appreciation for theatrics, I like him as an antagonist for those two things alone xD

Take note, Shen is an albino peacock, he has an abnormality to the melanin and blood cells which make his feathers white instead of blue.
I love Shen and Po's chemistry.
The sound his feathers make when he moves around is so fine.
