Extremely useful vid, thanks very much. Saved me a pile of trouble. Mine is a new HV01 single-phase and I'm just doing the first service. I suspect I'm not running it hard enough to keep condensation under control. My CNC mill has an airbleed that operates when it's powered up, but I've been turning off the compressor when the mill isn't on. I might need to put it on a timer so it runs more regularly, perhaps with a separate silenced air bleed so it runs at least once an hour in cool weather. I run it on a timer so I don't annoy the neighbours after 10pm, it's WAAAY quieter than the beastly piston compressor, but in the dark reaches of the night, the sound is just audible if there's no wind.
Glad it helped. I think if they don’t run near continuously they won’t ever be hot enough, the hydrovane originally never had a tank they would just run permanently as I think that’s what they were really designed for. My understanding is regular oil changes will make up for it.
@@jacksgarageworkshop Mine has a small hole at the end of the spring/plunger tube, so I could poke out all the parts using a rod. I found that refurb folks used the wrong sealing washers on the drain and filler. I fitted the right ones from the kit. The filter and foam were drenched in oil and there was a lot of horrible foamy gunge in the tank, plus some water. I guess that's bad news, but the oil leak seems to have reduced a lot, and might just be scunge that's left inside the fan housing that's now dribbling out. It's running nice and hot after I've been running the CNC for a few hours, but I have to leave it off overnight. I'm going to install a timer so it runs regularly between 8 am and 10 pm with a slow air bleed to keep it busy. I'm tempted to build a drying box to feed the inlet with pre-dried air.
@@jacksgarageworkshop Also I've ordered more oil and washers so I can do monthly changes if that becomes necessary. I can't run the CNC without a permanent air bleed, but my piston compressors are just a nightmare in terms of neighbourly relations!
@ I bought a second HV01 in case of trouble with the first one. I have an automatic bleed on it that ensures it runs for about 45 minutes a day, but in short bursts. It's now run for 49 hours in 70 days but today it spat out a load of sludgy oil from the innards of the cooling fins, just like the other one did. I might get away with just an oil change, but it seems to be a feature of these otherwise excellent compressors that they need to be run for an hour at full load in one burst rather then in multiple separate short runs. Time to re-engineer things so both compressors run for at least an hour a day. The waste heat will help keep the storeroom from getting too cold.
thanks for videoing this ive got a hydrovane 5 which is very similar and need to do this to mine couldn't find any info on mine for the oil level until I saw this so great job
Excellent video. I have an oil leak on my HV02 from what looke like the air intake grill halfway along the machine. Any clues would be much appreciated.
Haven’t fixed it yet but hot manual online and I reckon it’s the two o rings in the pile cooler unit. Will buy whole service kit for it. You have to search for your particular model.
I think it’s the external screw heads, one will be the cut off pressure and the other adjusts the hysteresis (the difference between the cutoff and when it turns it back on)

@@MachiningandMicrowaves Agreed piston compressors are a headache, sometimes literally.

Nice glad it’s helped, hope it went well
Thanks for the video. I've just bought one today and I reckon I'd better service it before putting it into service!
I would, you don’t know the history of it and something everyone says is they last forever if serviced regularly.
Could you please provide a picture of the electrics in the control box. Do you have the wiring diagram by any chance?
I couldn’t find the wiring diagram but I’ll work out how to post a picture
I’ll try this, it’s a link to a folder with the control box pictures drive.google.com/drive/folders/1DU6rRq6H4bqRd-fS_kLP66UQMvGWKnA6
Hi Jack, where did you get the replacement control box from. Mine is barely hanging in? Thanks for the great video
Great vid. Where can I buy the service stuff (seals and filters etc)?
I used PMJ Internatinal Ltd who are on ebay (username 'pmjint')

There’s an oil seal between the head and motor, I bet it’s that.
I’ve got the same leak, how did you get on with the repair- where did you source the seal from? I’ve got an hv04

Do you know how tk adjust the pressure switch ?
I think it’s the external screw heads, one will be the cut off pressure and the other adjusts the hysteresis (the difference between the cutoff and when it turns it back on)
