Probably because they were playing pitcher hand in the way where if pitcher gets the ball before the runner gets to first base then the runner is out which may be why they said it was dangerous

If your playing with 4th graders on a turf field and they kick hard most likely gonna be a fouls so bunts are sometimes allowed and are sometimes the only way to get to 2nd or 3rd base
