Kyle doesn't mention it, but there are also all-season Bridgestone Ecopia EP600 tires available for the i3 (for the 19" wheels only). The Bridgestone EP500's are the summer-only tires he talks about. Love my 2017 i3 REx. Great little car!
I decided to go for 4seasons - got pretty decent offer for Pirelli P7 - at present we do not have real winters here in Germany but following the legal regulations, I have to have "winter ready" tires below 7 degree C. So instead of wasting winter tires in high temperature, I will try set of 4season...will see :) thanks guys for posting such comparison - well done!
Alyssa ! Great 👍 job on the intro! ... Please continue making videos with or without Kyle! .. Kyle you know you rock! However its so good to see Alyssa 😊!.. for real you two great content keep them coming! More please!
Nankang NA-1 are made in OEM sizes for the i3, at least in the 19” fitment. I guess you’d say they were Summer Tyres, but they are all weather in Australia 🇦🇺 where snow is limited to Ski Resorts (chains required if snow on roads). About half the price of the Bridgestone EP500 here. Pretty limited availability in both brands as there are only a few hundred i3’s in the Country.
The Bridgestone tires have only 6 mm profile and wear quickly. I can recommend Nokian tires, which come with 9 mm and have better grip on snow. On the downside they are noisier and consume more. Be careful with regenerative breaking on slippery road. It can be as bad as pulling the hand break at full speed.
You guys are lucky, I could not find Bridgestone winter tires for sale at my local BMW dealership. They said I needed to buy wheels and tires together as a set. Instead, I ordered Continental VikingContact 7 online.
Hey you should drive up to Basalt, CO this winter and do some Aspen skiing! My partner and I have three i3’s with Nokian Hakapelliitta’s mounted (my favorite winter tire) and two Model 3 LRDM’s in our garage! Big fan of your videos! Glad y’all moved to CO!
When I was researching used EVs, this was one of the two or three that I had narrowed it down to, but those skinny tires just had me worried. In the end I went with a 2016 Kia Soul EV+ and it's the best car I have ever owned, by far. The other one was the Volkswagen e-Golf.
Got to visit the factory in Leipzig where they are made. It was like a hospital, ze Germans! Also got to take it to top speed run on Autobahn, we actual wizzed past a Prius too. Highlight of the trip was a top speed run in the i8, that thing is a lovely EV. I think we got it to 140Mph or so. I should post the videos :)
I didn't think you could put the 155s on the 5.5" stock rear rims. Not saying they won't fit, but that it's not recommended and too much stance life like, too stretched. I can't find the Blizzaks on the Bridgestone website, but TireRack lists the rim width range as 4-5", not 5.5". the factory set up is the narrow 5" rims front and back. It will make the tire's contact patch incorrect which will certainly change the way the car handles the snow and the life of the tire.
That's what's worrying me too - how to put 155s on rear rims and how that would work. Not sure if I should get a pair of 5'' rims and mount them in the rear.
@@Sholim85 Lots of people say it's fine, that the tire shop did it and said there is no issue. These guys seem to have sold the car if I remember right, maybe this was part of the reason and led to less than acceptable snow performance, who knows. I remember reading on TireRack that 5" was the minimum rim width, since then the specs don't really say anymore and Bridgestone's site makes it seem like these sizes don't exist. I can say that these tires will have some stretch on a 5.5", but it's probably not making a huge difference, my experience has been on the OEM 5" square set up with the 427 style (Pizza slice) wheels. That's the only OEM snow setup I know of.
That's what I thought too, but it wasn't necessarily the case. In any event, I still love my 2017 i3. It's not the worlds best car ever, but it sure is fun.
Hey Kyle, Just saw your Model-X offroading video.🤔🤔🤔 Come to India and see what is offroading. People just drive their Ford Endeavor and Toyota Fortuner(Most Indians love them as Americans love pickups), on rocks, climb up the stairs in mountaineous regions, drive them in the sea and river. Try this in US and everyone would be like "What the hell he is trying, looks like he wanta to break his 4WD".🤣🤣
2020 and people happy they can get the proper winter tyres lol. Is there a follow up video with actual snow, ice driving? Please film some hill down, up scenes. Thank you.
The BMW i3 has rear wheel drive. This fact and to a lesser degree the tyres makes it more difficult to drive and control it in snowy and icy conditions. Be careful when accelerating in curves. (oversteering) Great video. Like your style and attitude. 👍 left a sub.
In my experience, you won’t see an efficiency drop at lower speeds with non LRR tires. Do an extended trip at above 70 mph and I’ll bet you see a drop.

Snow driving? Yes please!
I’m sure there will be plenty!

Fascinating. Thanks for the comparison. 'Looking to buy an i3, but i'm also looking for confidence of reports before committing to the purchase.
John, I recently bought a 2014 i3 REx, and I love it!

Kyle did you make a road trip of driving the i3 how did the trip go charging stations etc
Is there an update on this video? How did you do in your first big snow 🌨️?

Sounds like a blast!!
I can't find the 19in rims anywhere to get the tires onto...
How is the performance going to the mountains, like from Breckinridge to Denver, up the Eisenhower tunnel?

Have you tried squeezing a peddle bike tire on? Seems like the same size.
Tall and narrow, should be excellent in the snow

I mean when you are born and raised in the south, ya don’t need them. And why yes of course ANYTHING for you sweetheart 😊
Did you have to pay the guy with the plow to drive by at 2:15?

@@OutofSpecReviews ok, it's definitely more fun if you know how to handle it.
Belle vidéo sympathique sur cette voiture.
Viewing summer the tires, looks like the car needs to check the wheel alignment
Nah we just shredded it around the track and wore down the edges - Kyle

Is the i3 a 60ah or 94ah battery?
Wow that’s efficient
Guess I could’ve waited a couple hours for this 👍👍
🥳
Yay Alyssa!
Is that a Fiat in the garage? 500e?
Oh, it's a Smart car. Sorry!

Totally agree and should have made this a point in the video, but brain fart!! At highway speeds we will likely see a higher impact - Kyle
It’s “sipes”, not “snipes”
Ha! Yes - I know this it’s just how it came out 🤣
An upgrade in necessary! Girlfriend 😉,,,, my partner 😀
