I just went to Tosca at the Arena in Verona a few days ago (5/8/23) and it was briljant, on 2/8/23 I also went to the Aida and for me Tosca was more to my taste. Both are an experience to remember for the rest of my life. The Arena in Verona gives an atmosphere which is magic. With Tosca we did get a Bis and they repeated the long scene in act 3. It was amazing.
In my opinion, this is the apex of the opera. Raimondi is powerful and magnificent as Scarpia.

He starred with "La Divina", Maria Callas in a production at Covent Garden.

I have been looking at a number of Puccini TeDeums on youtube for the past few days and this one is by far the best and most exiciting. Frederico Fellini must have had a hand in this production. Just wonderful and to think it was done outdoors too! Amazing.

Absolutely great Raimondi and a great scene! The amazing, powerful, thrilling production! There is an enormous power in Puccini's "Te Deum".
This is a question of personal taste. I've been listening to "Tosca" all my life, and when I heard Raimondi as Scarpia, to me, all other singers paled by comparison.

Raimondi is one of the best ever seen on stage. He is not an excellent singer, he is an excellent actor able to sing. Sounds stupid, but look at what he did already in the 70/80's. That was not so common to see an opera singer PLAY a role that way and not just only singing in front of the public! One of the best ever!

RUGGERO RAIMONDI resta attulmente uno fra i migliori scarpia della storia, appena sotto bruson, ma si parla di voci diverse, dalle colorature diverse. Il miglior scarpia degli ultimi 30 anni all'arena.
Il più grande baritono è Dimitri Hvorostoski...chi non lo conosce che prenda su youtube un suo video e vedrete quanto è bravo . Unico al mondo..voce possente. Peccato che sia scomparso a soli 55 x un male incurabile

This is the Most FELLINI version I've seen yet, with all the dead cardinals, mummified priests and large symbolic items, like Tosca's enormous sculpted head! The way the kids hold out their arms. Very fantastical scene. Too big and strange for Raimondi's Scarpia I'm afraid.

Titi gobbi was the best singing actor for scarpia,but likes of guelfi,london,herlea,bastianini,mc neil,were all better singers
I was just in Vienna, at the May 9 performance of "Tosca", and Ruggero Raimondi was truly spellbounding! His voice is stronger, more powerful, and more resonant than ever! And his artistic mastery is tremendous. He doesn't merely perform a role--he enters the character and becomes him. The applause was defeaning.

I LOVE this video - the beauty of the sets is breathtaking, fearfull at the same time. Raimondi will always be Scapia in my eyes (and ears) - he actally would be hard to resist! It's just awesome.

Raimondi è sempre un'interprete formidabile (e uno dei migliori attori nel mondo della lirica), ma vocalmente è ormai alquanto incrinato, anche se ha mantenuto volume ed estensione. Non lo aiuta certo dover cantare in un teatro delle dimensioni dell'Arena, che lo costringe a spingere contiunamente.
e quindi ..perche' voler trovare critiche a forza..questa e' un performance eccezionale ..in tutto..vocalmente forse meno potente del giovane Raimondi ma eccezionale.
franco cozzi la vocalità è assolutamente inadeguata, non scherziamo......
Sto Raimondi non e' ne carne ne pesce.
Ecco perchè dopo l' '80 non c'è un cantante che ti soddisfi!
En este Te Deum Scarpa está obsesionado en poseer a tosca incluso en este acto de liturgia sacra no puede dejar de pensar en ella y hace unos comentarios francamente terribles en este te deu en qué hay una buena orquestacion y un buen coro se puede definir como un concertante qué es un fragmento de las operas muy difícil de efectuar punto

Raimondi mi piace a tratti (in generale), ma mi sembra che in questa versione carichi un po' troppo tutto, espressione, teatralità, dimenticandosi di cantare. C'è anche da dire che Oren, per motivi noti solo a lui, dirige come se fosse inseguito da una muta di pitbull quindi immagino che il cantato si adegui alle esigenze della conduzione. la domanda è... perchè?

Sfem Classics lavoro in Arena come maschera di teatro, dietro le quinte, nel backstage, di assistenza al direttore d'orchestra e ai solisti..Oren dirige come se avesse sempre fretta, quest' anno è riuscito a terminare un Nabucco in 3 ore e 20 minuti compresi intervalli e bis del Va Pensiero..curiosa storia raccontatami da un solista che era in Cina con Oren, terminó una Carmen in 2 ore e 58..ad esempio nella parte ballata del Trionfo in Aida, i ballerini non riescono a stargli dietro..quindi credo che a un cantante non rimanga altro che adeguarsi alla velocità di Oren

Hugo de Ana è un buon regista. Ma ogni tanto gli parte la brocca. Un finale primo di Tosca più pacchiano e squinternato di questo, l'ho visto raramente.
Wait, what? Why the hell would Ruggero Raimondi sing E Lucevan le Stelle? That's a tenor aria. Dude's a good opera singer, but not a tenor.
I was there. It was amazing!! Ruggero sang twice E Lucevan le Stelle. I will have always in my mind this wonderful opera in the Arena.
