You are without question the MOST competent, MOST informed, and MOST helpful ham radio TH-camr in existence. Seriously, your hands-on how-to stuff is so far beyond others. Whether it's typing commands into Linux... or tying a cable with special knots to make a carrying handle... or accessing secret features... or (etc., etc., etc.)... you take the time to SHOW US HOW without even a shred of some of the self-aggrandizing self-congratulating narcissism we so often see elsewhere. If your subscriber count doesn't surpass the others within 3 years, I'm going to flush my laptop down the toilet. (I don't have a hat to eat.) 73.
Many thanks for your tips. Did you notice that - if you turn off the power as shown without removing the plug - it shuts down but still consumes about 30 mA and will soon empty your battery?
Got an tips for those with aging eyes who have trouble reading the tiny text on such a tiny screen? That's one reason I'm not picking one of of these up. Someone needs to create a 'headless' version of these transceivers that use a smartphone app to provide the screen and the controls.
Cat/rig control worked for me with flrig (TS-480 radio) under linux on a raspberry pi. Not all the time, thoug! Under windows it is very flakey and I only got it working once. I heard DL2MAN say they use all the processing power they have when in SSB, so maybe that's why the CAT control isn't working as it should.
I can't get it to reliably connect at all. I can kinda understand the processing power issue. % /usr/local/bin/rigctl -m 2028 -r /dev/ttyUSB0 rig_open: error = Communication timed out kenwood_open: no response from rig kenwood.c(863):kenwood_open return(-5) rig.c(1026):rig_open return(-5) /dev/ttyUSB0 Success

So far nothing. Probably something internal in the coding. I did a quick look for release notes and came up empty. Last notes I saw on his page were for 2.00e.

I'm humbled by your kind words. Thank you very much! Also, flushing is a better option than eating when it come to laptops. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Gap!

I didn't notice that, but thanks.
It's true
I have to double click to get it back on

The radio can be modified to use a bigger screen. Not the easiest job to do. What mode will you be running?
Thank you for those tips. Looking forward to the setup with FT8 for this. 73 from the UK.
You and me both!
Did you do the video for more power?
No, I didn't get a chance to.
@ ok no biggie, I looked down your video list and didn’t see it. I know making videos can be time consuming.
@lawrence1md DL2MAN did a write up/video on it. You have to tweak the spacing on the toroid while looking at a meter

VOX works very reliable with FT8, though!

@@theramblingsoflarry9290 Excellent, I'll help where i can.
Did you manage to get more transmit power out?
I didn't, but dl2man has a vid on how to do it.
Steve, what have you found different about the 2.0i firmware? I'm still tunning the h version.
So far nothing. Probably something internal in the coding. I did a quick look for release notes and came up empty. Last notes I saw on his page were for 2.00e.
Does this do the simplex HF channel, 29.600? I was thinking about buying one of these.
It covers by default 80/60/40/30/20m (alternative Filter Setups possible) so you'd have to change one of the filters to get TX on that frequency.
@@temporarilyoffline OK thanks!
Power turns down to -1 on mine, and it doesn't power down. ???
Maybe a firmware update?
Same on mine. I just received mine today. So I have not figured out how to turn the radio off. Any ideas?
Good stuff to know. :)
Glad you think so!
BTW: I learned the hard way that you can't use mono cables to connect to your audio interface. You have to use stereo cables!
Experience is the best teacher!
Yeah I had to rewire a headset with a mic so that the mics sound comes out on the ring of the plug. Also made a remote ptt button for the headset.
