- In this video we will be traveling north on Hwy 61 visiting Minnesota's North Shore. We will stay a few days near, and in Silver Bay. I will take you along on multiple bike rides and walks in the area. We will stop at Taconite Harbor in Cook County and visit the historic safe harbor. We will ride the bike trails near the Split Rock River Trailhead, and hike in Cariboo Falls. Thanks for watching and feel free to subscribe for more of the same content.

I appreciate you going all the way back to the beginning. A used go pro and a Craigslist laptop is how it all started. It can be hard to watch the older videos. But it's also neat to see every week how I learned a little more about recording and editing.

Ive been watching all your newer videos but had to cruise back in time and check out the original. REALLY impressed with it if that was truly your first attempt at TH-cam.
Thank you! I was as green as it gets! I didn't even own a computer. I bought the GoPro used off Ebay and a used laptop of Craigslist because I didn't know what to expect. I had no clue what I was doing. I'm still learning as I go. The reason I use gold pros is because I don't know how to use a real camera. After two and a half years i'm still trying to figure this stuff out.
Ah, the beginning of an awesome adventure. This was special to see how far you've come sir. I enjoyed it as usual. I almost rolled over when you said "meow" to the deer. Thank you !!!

From day one, the mans character stands out. Kind, honest, humble, and loving. But, whoa, i wouldnt want to be your camera. I could hear him screaming when you drove over him, and then on front of the bike speeding along dangerous roads. Yikes!

I ended up removing the magnets out of that microwave. They are you on the tool bench right now. Those strong little magnets come in handy.

I haven't watched this video in a while. It made me cringe last time. I leave it up because it's nice to see where the TH-cam adventure started and where I have been since. I've learned a lot about recording and editing the last few years. I'm excited to see where I'll be another two years from now. Thanks for going back to where it all began.

I have to laugh at my lack of youtube skills back then....the videos are hard for me to watch...I still am learning alot with every video. But back then I didn't even have a computer in the house....I was soooo unaware of what I was doing. Lol

Our son has a Scooter pretty beefy wheels gets him or someone around quickly if they had to, really thinking of looking into the bike though haven't had anything like except quads.( dirt bikes or golf carts )My husband is gonna be jealous of your garage lol.
Wow! I have to add Minnesota to my bucket list. That waterfall was amazing.
A lot of my videos are based in Minnesota. That's where I'm from. This state has so many different terrains, from rock cliffs, old growth forests, rolling hills and prairies. Minnesota has almost everything except for Mountains. My favorite spot is the North Shore. In November Lake Superior has awe inspiring storms crashing into the cliffs. You should check it out if you ever have the chance.
Fun channel. I watched a few now at the beginning. Fun to see where you were and if we’ve been there or need to go there.
Thanks for going back and checking out the old videos! Every once in a while, I'll watch an old video. In the beginning, I knew nothing about editing or recording. I didn't even own a computer. I try to learn a new skill or editing tool every week. I think I enjoy that process as much as camping.

When I started the channel, I had no clue what I was doing. I never used a video camera, and I didn't even own a computer. In fact, I still don't know how to use a camera. My videos are all recorded on a 3 year old Gopro and the cheapest drone DJI sells. I really appreciate you checking out the older videos. I've had a ton of fun learning as I go the last few years.
I finally found the beginning of this journey. Great job! Your “extras” (the deer) did an excellent job. Hope you compensated them well, 😂. You have come a long way since the beginning, with your efforts for dispersed camping and video production. Keep up the great work! Take care, safe travels.

I had zero experience with editing......it was a mess. But I kept posting every Tuesday and slowly started to figure stuff out. I'm still learning with every video. It's fun seeing the learning curve take place.

I'm gonna have to look into that more. I took a quick glimpse at harvest host last year before a long road trip. I decided there was enough rest stops and truck stops along the way. Once I start going out for A long period of time I'll look into something that's more comfortable than a truck stop. I'll definitely be checking out the 2 you mentioned
Good on you for dealing with the microwave. I'm totally with you, I just can't understand why people think leaving their garbage for others to pick up is how we live on and respect our planet. I know of a sweet spot way up the north shore that you should know about.
And kudos on your first video! I've watched several of your videos before finding this one. You're doing great and I'm enjoying your ventures to places that I've been before, and haven't been to yet.

Boy you seem to be so much like me. Biscuits and gravy👍👍. Boondock camping, I like when my wife comes along except we have to camp around other people when she is with me because there are critters in the woods. I do have a tendency to disappear in the woods of 2 or three hours and my wife doesn't like it if no one else is around. She has said for 40 years that one day im going to get lost in the woods and not find my way back. Well hasn't happen yet. I'm not sure but she might be a little disappointed every time I make it back. 🤣 just kidding Mandi

I remember when I reached 100 subscribers. That was a huge accomplishment for me. It took 10 months to see 1000 subscribers. I was blown away thinking people would actually subscribe. It's been a fun adventure. I appreciate you seeing where it all started.

Awesome first video, same here going to watch all your videos. I’m going to sell my house and live in a truck camper, still trying to figure out which one.
The same thought keeps running through my head. House prices are incredibly high. I thought about selling; I could walk away from the house with a lot of cash in hand......but I still have my two girls at home. Maybe in a few years.
@@KennyOfAllTrades we thought of doing that, but to sell everything would be quite a task, and it's always nice to have someplace to come back to when the road starts to wear on you.

I didn't even own a computer to edit the video. I have learned a lot over the last year, but have a long way to go. I found out I really enjoy video recording and photography. It's definitely my new hobby. I bought my first real camera a few months ago. Thanks for checking out the video. I hope you learn something, or at least enjoy the scenery if you follow along on the channel.

The number of trolls typing away from the anonymity of hiding behind their keyboard is mind-boggling. It's comments like yours that keep me motivated.
Great videos Kenny! We’ve been watching for 6 months and going through your library. We are trying to decide between a van or truck camper. for us living in a HOA subdivision in Orlando the van could be parked at the house the truck camper not more than a weekend however, i think you’re showing us the truck camper and 4x4 truck is the way to go. We are go to the woods people not campground residents. really enjoying the videos and what we learn from you. The one comment I make on all the 400+ channels we watch is that I can only speak for myself and I watch TH-cam to see and learn what people are doing I don’t watch to see the people talk for an entire video maybe it’s just me. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the comment. Ive always like the idea of van traveling as well. I would need something I could stand up in. But I think I could make a van work. I do love the space of my Truck camper. It's even considered one of the small units with a slide. It's like having a small apartment in the bed of a 4x4 truck.

Lol. I was out on a bike ride a couple weeks ago when my daughter spotted me as she was driving to work. Unknowing to me she took a video with the background song " Brand new keys"....put it on social media and everyone kick out of it. Of course I looked like a dork. And I agree, the biscuits and gravy was pritty week. I plan on getting to the upper peninsula within the next year or two, looks beautiful! Thanks for watching!

I have skipped around watching these video's from various times. I've decided to watch the videos in sequence starting at #1. I'm looking forward to seeing how the series progresses, I find each episode relaxing and restoring my faith in people as caretakers of all that we find precious. I really like how Kenny cleans up each site, we should a strive to follow Kenny's example. In fact I'm thinking of trading my roof top for a small truck camper, the ladder is getting a little daunting, and I fear a miss step resulting in injury while being alone and remote. Kenny you are an inspiration, Thank You!!
Kenny, also hello from Southern MN-- I mainly camp is the driftless area in WI and MN in purist of Trout. However, watching these video makes me want to search for trout waters and remote campsites in the National and State Forest of Northern MN and WI.
I would love to spend more time in the SE. It is so beautiful. I was looking a few years back and having a hard time finding dispersed camping. One day, I'll get back down there.

Back then the camera was a used gopro 9 I bought off ebay...
I still use it for time-lapse shots. I Now use a gopro 10 to vlog with and a Panasonic G9 for fancy shots.
My bike is a Rad Power Bike the model is the Mini 4.

Yup, this was my first one. I'd never used a gopro before this video, and it was my first try at editing. In fact , I had to buy a used laptop craigslist because I did not even own a computer. The last two and a half years have been a big learning experience. Since then, I have upgraded from the go pro 9 to a gopro 10. I still don't know how to work a real camera.
@@KennyOfAllTrades GoPro can definitely get a lot of good content. However, I'd definitely try your hand on a good camera, too. You can do so much more with them, especially when it comes to photos. When you're ready. Either way, I like what you've got going. No complaints from me. See ya Tuesday! 🙂

It's my favorite mode of transportation while out camping. It also gets me to places I would not normally go.
I like stopping in small towns and exploring the areas, the bike is good for that
. When I was in Kansas the people were so nice. The locals would start by asking questions about the bike and truck.....the next thing I knew I was getting guided tours through old buildings. Multiple occasions I got a history lesson from locals that are proud of their past.....
I should have asked them to be on camera!
@@KennyOfAllTrades We are in a TT but have had the same experiences. The first year I had it in Imperial Dam LTVA I got stopped everyday. Now many people have them. Scariest..came around a curve on a trail into the middle of an elk herd. Thought I was going to get trampled.
Also, those that leave garbage and don’t follow leave no trace imho shouldn’t be allowed the gift of RV’ing … if they don’t appreciate the limited resources we have been provided … the Earth doesn’t belong to any of us individually… but we all need to take care of it for the next generations that follow behind….
Very well said. I'm afraid public lands will either close or have more restrictions put in place because of the amount of littering.
Also ot would be nice if people would start using a little more common sense. Two days ago I went up to that parking lot from this video to see about using it as a resting spot for the night. There was three campers using the entire lot. They had huge screen tents set up, burning rigs set up. and all their Rv slides out.....overnight rest areas should not be used as a camping sight.

My wife and love your channel and have been watching for almost a year now. So we decided to go to the start of where your journey began and always wondered what you did for a living. We know you've said in different videos that you work for the state, but now seeing the police sign in the back of your truck is the mystery solved ? Kind regards from 2 of your western Canada subscribers.
I've worked in many aspects in LE. I worked as a dispatcher, a correctional officer, and transport officer before going onto the road as a patrol officer. Now I'm working for the Department of Public Safety. I'm no longer a police officer. I switched it up when the channel started. I got burnt out. I loved certain aspects of the job....other parts were destroying my mental health. I decided to make a change. The good news is that one days I will collect off two pensions. The Police and Fire and now State. You will still see some of my old PD things in the camper. I have a few award pins hanging up. It reminds me of how no matter what I'm going through in the camper, life could be so much worse!

The world needs more stand-up guys like you, and I'm glad you've found peace in your channel for your overall mental well-being. Mine fell off once (geez, that was a fun discovery) but I was wondering if you carried it somewhere else, or it also went missing. Thanks for sharing your videos. Oh, and no. I don't carry a spare. I switched tires sizes and couldn't afford 5 tires. Soon, I'll be getting another set. Once I do that, I'll keep the best one for a spare. I hope to fit in in the original spare location.

Thanks! I was using a Gopro 9 in the beginning. Now I use a Goprp 10. The name of the editing software is called Filmora.
I'm not very good with cameras and editing. The Gopro and Filmora are both super easy to use. Thanks for checking out the older videos.
@@KennyOfAllTrades I have a GoPro Hero 11 and I’m still trying to learn the DaVinci editing software. It’s really difficult to understand sometimes. It also tests my patience lol. I don’t have any plans to start a TH-cam channel just want to make decent videos.

Yes. I needed a challenge. I'm actually a super private person who doesn't like being around groups of people. 3 people in a room is too many. I had to get out of LE for my mental health. Mandi was a huge support at that time. She also knows I do well when putting myself in uncomfortable situations. So the channel was actually her idea. She knew it was something i needed to do. We NEVER thought I'd still be making the videos and never expected this many people to watch.
@KennyOfAllTrades That's cool. Was wondering that, as the pieces came together. Most campers that I run across that like boondocking or roughing it find peace In the solitude. Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. Im glad you have found passion in making these.... so fun to watch and try to figure out where exactly you stayed at or traveled. Definitely seeing a few places I have been to.

Hey Kenny, this has nothing to do with you video lol, but I wanted to ask what are you doing or how are you preventing freeze up of your water lines etc…
I have a 2021, 1140 AF, I’m camping full time about 40 yds off Lake Michigan. This is my third winter here but first winter with AF.
I skirted a few weeks ago but prior to that had a frozen water pump, then frozen cold water in the bathroom sink and toilet about three times. Now I am emptying my tanks, but the gray water is frozen, but slowly thawing it out…
What all do you do to prevent all this?
Do you use your water in the rig?

I stopped filling the freshwater tank when the temps went constantly below zero. I use Rv antifreeze in the gray and black tanks. I keep a couple of gallons in the camper and pour it down the drains with any other fluids. I empty the tanks frequently, not letting them fill much. Come about the middle of December it's hard to regulate the basement temps in the camper. I try not not use the tanks if possible.
Your channel came up a couple weeks ago and started watching many of your videos. My husband and I really enjoy them. Is your address still in Brainerd? We live in south eastern Wisconsin and plan to retire in a few years and want to travel like you are doing. Would like to write you a letter to tell you more about us and our camping experiences. Former. I got out of the Dept as I was starting the channel. Now I work for the Department of Public Safety.
While backgrounding 3 new hires and I saw a spark in their eyes. It was the same spark I once had as a new officer. Unfortunately, over the years, my spark was burnt out. It was then when I realized I needed a change. So, I figured I would start a position with the state. Plus, this way, I'll have two pensions to pull from if I ever make it to retirement.
