    Life is one of the most fascinating phenomena in the universe. Incredibly elaborate, its diverse forms never fail to capture one’s imagination.
    Today we invite you to go slightly back in time and see the chief milestones in the Earth’s biosphere’s evolution. We will enjoy the views of the prehistoric Earth, find out how and why life came onto land and take a look at the major extinction events in the history of our planet.

      *@Marcus Herbold* Although still difficult to comprehend , at least most of this is proven with sea fossils on the highest of mountain tops. Religion once was a valid way for people to make sense of manifestations like the Sun ,Moon , stars , lightning or clouds.
      What else to do than think there was somewhere a grey bearded old man ( no woman ofcourse) dressed in bed sheets who cobbled everything (known at the time) together in just 6 days . Just like some days of our week are named after Nordic gods .
      It becomes ridiculous when these days with most of evolution proven , many feel more comfortable by something more comprehensible like violent bloody biblical fairy tales. Which would be the same when still stating with all confidence that Santaclaus with his elves actually do live on the North Pole .
      No wonder those who have big interests in organised religion make sure things will stay that way. Although some try to update their outdated stories with terms like "universe" or "planet" , which in biblical times most was hardly known about ,when for all intents and purposes the Earth was still flat ( although many still think it is ) .

      It's mostly a bunch of guesses/nonsense. There is definite evidence that photosynthesis was producing oxygen 4.0 - 4.2 billion years ago. There is hematite (iron rust) in the oldest rocks on Earth in Quebec and evidence that Earth's atmosphere was oxidized (as in oxygen reacting). This vid is a bunch of nonsense/or-agenda-driven guesses.

  • @rodburley
    @rodburley 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    There absolutely is life outside of Earth - some of which is here now, on our planet. There is plenty of evidence of this to the discrete observer... if you have the eyes to see...
    "...visitors, intervening visitors from beyond your shores, are already in the world and have been here for some time. They are not governed by human values or human ethics or human morality. They are not subject to these things, for they are here for their own reasons. They are not interested in you particularly. They do not need your culture and your art and your wonderfully confusing expressions. They are here on a very serious purpose of their own. They are ready for you. They have prepared for you for some time. But you are not ready for them. You have not prepared for them, and your lack of preparation makes you incredibly vulnerable to manipulation and to deception."

    Watching this makes me feel better about the Fermi Paradox. Upgrading very basic life all the way from weak single cell life, to robust single cells that are suitable to supporting multicellular organisms was a long process. Then multicellular life into robust land based life and finally intelligent life, was a long, hard fought road.

    • @AxionSmurf
      @AxionSmurf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not sure why it makes you feel better about the Fermi Paradox. Life has barely escaped being wiped out here several times. It was mentioned that the Sun becoming 30 percent more luminous helped the world escape an ice ball event. Our sun is on the march to red giant. We have an unusual star, with red dwarfs making up most of them. It's an unusually timid star though maybe the permian dying was caused by a megaflare it has very occasionally. Most other star systems will see megaflares very frequently. We got some unique circumstances here that helped life escape eradication. We won't always be able to escape it here either. The sun will keep growing and swallow up the Earth. Maybe that's already happened elsewhere lots of times.

      @@AxionSmurf the more difficult filters that are in our past, the better our chances in the future

    • @AxionSmurf
      @AxionSmurf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@foxrings Yeah...that doesn't really seem to be true, though. If you look at how our star has aged and grown more luminous and heat-radiant, it seems like our chances in the future aren't better. It seems like we're headed back to being a lava world. That is if indeed it will turn into a red giant. Plus most of the population thinks Space travel is a gimmick and that we're better off spending all the money here in the hopes that the Sun will take a vacation and there will be no more chicxulubs or hyper-volcanism.

    • @foxrings
      @foxrings 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AxionSmurf Yes, but we made it!! Humans have climbed out of Earth's gravity well! Colonizing the galaxy is only a little bit harder to do than colonizing the Moon. If you want to colonize alpha centauri. You don't have to make the whole journey all at once. You can colonize ice balls in the Oort cloud as way points

    • @AxionSmurf
      @AxionSmurf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@foxrings If you think it's only a little bit harder to colonize the Milky Way, you must live a lot longer than humans do. For example, it would take 119,200 years to reach Alpha Centauri on a rocket traveling 24,600 MPH. Alpha Centauri probably doesn't have any habitable planets in them so maybe pick another. Point is, Alpha Centauri's distance from is only a tiny fraction of the Milky Way's diameter. It sounds like you're saying "It's easy, all we have to do is the impossible"

    Great documentary, really got me thinking about how the strongest of the so called primitive bacteria had the drive to move away from predators and move onto land gradually reproducing in the shallow coastal waters, to finally dominating the land but also looking back to the sea for easy food that couldn’t survive out of water.. easy pickings! There’s nothing really that separates humans from all other life, we are just one from many of the existing that pushed further enough than the others. Or maybe we will be considered the “engineers” who are responsible for new complex life to thrive on other worlds, that’s all part of the grand plan of nature.

    Some things are said with such conviction,... rather than adding the "we think this is what happened due to this evidence: and then explain what the evidence is",... mostly we just don't know.

    Except that, life, so far as we know, is found only here, on Earth! This is the only planet, in the entire Universe, so far as we know, where life-giving water falls from the sky! And yet, we bitch about it! If life were a bed of roses, we'd still bitch about the thorns! - Sam R. England.
