I’ve literally started pursuing graduate degrees in physics because of this channel. Thank you for igniting my own passion in science.
If I was younger I would probably have done the same thing. Though, it would be in archeology/paleontology/geology, due to their other channel, history of earth. While I find space/the universe and all that to be a bit more interesting, advanced math really stresses me out, so physics would definitely, unfortunately, be off the table. Good luck in your studies!

@@normangensler7380 well just try and understand that everything costs money. as evil as it may seem to "sell out", understand that we must move forwards, and the best medium in this physical world to easily transfer value for things you need, is money. Your physical time and labor is transitioned into money, making it easy to buy food, pay for your house, etc. the people making these videos are taking their time out of their life to present you with the information you wish to see, often for free. so they need the money elsewhere. I know its a simple concept, but i dont understand why its something you need to complain about. im just happy there are people willing to sponsor them so they can make this information possible.

I love how this came full circle from Leibnitz claiming that space and time don't exist and Newton being opposite to that, to our current understanding that space and time truly might not exist.

Mesmerizing. One can’t help but appreciate the brilliant minds of both philosophers and physicists, and how their different approach to seek answers complement each other.
I love how scientific knowledge forever changes and grows with new scientific devices, and all concepts are severely tweaked if not totally replaced. Wonder what this podcast will sound like 200 years from now.

Dude. 3:05 "...questions to which Einstein's theories only begin to answer." How on earth do you excuse grammar like that as good script-writing? Because it's read with a British accent? And that's only one example of many, taken from the first three and a half minutes of this turkey.
I really love the style too, that they maintain a single narrator the entire time. A lot of these shows like to throw in random physicists sitting in their office talking for a couple of minutes here or there -- keeping a consistent narrator for everything, even to read quotes from others, really smooths it out and ensures the message is well constructed and organized from moment to moment.

If I have to point out the mistake in that sentence, you'll probably just respond that it's not a mistake, or that it's too trivial to take issue with, or that it's a "style" issue (it's not), but it reads: "...questions to which Eistein's theories only begin to answer." At first glance it should be obvious that the writer started out to write one sentence but switched in the middle to end up writing another; it should have said, either "...questions which Eistein's theories only begin to answer..." or "...questions to which Eistein's theories only offer the beginnings of answers..." or some such variation. TR;DR version: there are too many "to's" in that phrase; one ANSWERS a question; one presents an answer to a question; but one does not answer TO a question.
There are other spelling and wording issues; I am done with this channel and am not going to revisit it to dredge them up for you. Consider them exercises for the reader. If you can't catch them or just don't care, no amount of explanation my part will be anything but wasted. My overall impression from this and other offerings is that, while this channel boasts shiny production values, its cultured-sounding narration is laid over careless and inaccurate writing, and it does not deserve the gushing praise that other commenters have posted here.
These are less TH-cam videos and more science documents that any serious science or documents channel would be proud to broadcast. This is what the BBC would have produced in it heyday. Thanks again for your tireless work.
The presentation and content of this channel is truly the best on the platform. My favorite part is how the ideas of advanced topics are presented without having to do immense personal study.

I found the concept of future civilizations trying to buy time was somewhat saddening, because to what end? And the implication of absolutely no heat or light; nothingness and unending non-existence implying no history recorded of any past, in any way anywhere, quite unnerving. Don't some physicists imply that information is eternal?

Time is nothing more than a measurement of motion. Space time is science fiction. Anyone who has studied a little bit of Physics knows this.

The weirdest thing is that we are an assembled collection of particles from the beginning of time but each form we are assembled into is for only a portion of time.
How many previous forms have your particles been assembled into?

Maybe your particles were in several places at the same time, perhaps some were animals, plants, rocks, lakes, ocean, at the same time?
Incredible that DNA can assemble those particles into every life form that has ever existed.

These are a wonderful series of science videos that raise philological thoughts. There really are very very good.
And whats crazy is that we can go go even beyond that.
What created the particles, what do our particles lie on, what created that? What created the platform we are in...and on and on.
It almost feels like there is an onion where we are creating worlds (simulations) to understand our own world and in the future, the simulations we create could create new simulations to understand themselves, etc. Its certainly possible that every single conscious being ever existing in a multiverse does not know their own origin and the particles that make up you and me are all pieces of the same past and future. Quite literally, our perspective is the year 2022, but our particles have already experienced the past and future and our minds are just moments of minute time.
Assuming our theories are correct, we genuinely are nothing more than particles trying to understand ourselves.
Its why i want to be cremated when i pass. Let my particles flow freely again and become something new. No need to keep then trapped in a box of slow decay under soil

Also remember that your particles aren't even always the same. Most of our cells grow and reproduce and die, so we're constantly absorbing and shedding atoms. Many of the particles that make up you today weren't part of you months or years ago.

I find it amazing that human beings continue to deny that the Universe was formed by a Creator. Our minds are finite as our lives. The secrets of the universe lie within the mind of its Creator. The secrets won't be revealed to man, but the manifestations are clearly seen for all to wonder. That in itself is marvelous! The Bible mentions, that GOD placed "time and eternity in the hearts of man, so that he wouldn't know how short his life really is...

There's absolutely no evidence an invisible magic man floats in the sky. God is in the same category as bigfoot, mermaids and the loc ness monster just to name a few. in the last several years of watching physics and cosmology lectures on youtube, this is the first one that explained the logical leaps that lead to our current theories of the universe. the impression i've gotten before is that einstein and all the others were some sort of crazy geniuses that came up with fantastical assumptions that happened to be correct. it was very refreshing and grounding to actually be able to follow the how and why these ideas came about

Very impressive documentary! I am currently developing a book, trying to tie modern physical theories into a coherent scifi fantasy univerese. As you can imagine it is difficult to come up with logical solutions to the questions modern physics struggle with.
Let alone knowing what the most pressing questions are.
And this is what this documentary helped me tremendously with. I think I won a better understanding even of my own universe.

It's limits are where motion starts, and the speed of light, the fastest it can move before it no longer produces tactile matter that respons to time ,space and gravities. Of all the channels I've seen on TH-cam, this is probably the best. And of all this channel's videos I liked this one the most. With its stellar amount of content, perfectly executed presentation and calm narration it is a joy to watch. Even though I already knew about many of the things it touches, there was not a moment I was not on the edge of my seat. Everything is so nicely embedded into the history of discoveries.
I wish there were videos like these 30 years ago. Had I watched them back then when I was young I very well might have chosen a different career path...

According to the video there were videos like this 30 years ago. Mr Donovan, please begin your fourth career of physics. We all need your contributions. I am also not young and have rekindled my attempt at understanding higher maths. If it were all geometric I'd be okay. Another of my questions to all of 7.1 Million I'll never meet--When I was about 3-4 years old, I distinctly remember that when I got into the car with my family, I waved good-bye to our house as I knew that I was still while the rest of the world moved around me. My dear sister told me that everyone has had that belief as a child though mine hasn't gone away . . . (she was the only one who could translate the unusual language I spoke until I was "re-educated"). My mother desperately tried to quash my true concept of reality. She kept insisting that I was the one that was moving. I told her I needed help with my philosophy class and started reading DeCarte, Sarte and later, my grandfather's favourite in its original Russian, Ouspensky, to her. On her death bed, I finally told her that I understood what she meant (I didn't tell her that I believed her!)! Do other people feel this way, as my sister has assured me my entire life??
To call this powerful is a vast understatement. The production quality brought the brilliantly constructed script to life. I am so thankful my timeline brought me to view this physical and philosophical masterpiece.
Watching this at 12:21am while laying in bed, my window cracked open to let the winter wind in and my laundry running letting out a clean scent; mixing the two smells into a comforting concoction. It’s my perfect night❤

I came to this by chance (or was it predetermined?) when it began to play after something completely unrelated ended. I looked at my tablet and saw its subject matter, and being interested in science fact and fiction I let it play. This is one that I know I will come back to again and again. It's genuinely fascinating, well explained, and the narration and music are relaxing to take in. I'm going to subscribe now and listen to your other videos.

I can testify to both of you as a consumer of television and radio from the late 1960’s that this production is of a level that was rarely or never seen for those 50 years. If there had been something like it, it would have been on public television and a lot of people would have enjoyed it. Johnny Lunchpail and Sally Housecoat then as now would likely have not tuned in.

Loved how some specific subjects can destroy your brain, like: time, gravity (and what is a "force"), visualizing an object in "higher" dimensions, conceiving infinity, the end of your own perception. Compare to those, understanding how our own brain works seems like a peace of cake, yet we still don't know that one either.

That world line part was amazing. It was deep and extremely thought invoking.
I remember in grade school, we did an experiment, where 2 watches were set to the same time, one was put in our classroom, another was run up to the top of a 25 story building and both second hands were started at the same exact second. A few days later, the watches were off by about 3 hours. Minds blown lol. Simple experiments like that as a child made science so cool to me and my friends lol, Videos about space and time always bring me back to that time. It was the first time I could understand just how much the force of gravity was influencing us besides keeping us from floating away. I hope im alive long enough to see the next big developments in quantum physics and space research and exploration.

@@zdcyclops1lickley190 I was using magic as a synonym for “wonder”, though even if I weren’t, magic is in fact not the opposite of science. In fact, in just about any fantasy setting WITH magic, that same magic would be able to be defined as science within that setting.
“Magic” in the fantasy sense defines a system of powers and abilities which are still dictated by some sort of “system”. Science, on the other hand, defines a method of categorizing and understanding the world around us. If that world had magic, the categorization and study of said magic would still be science.

Thyme definitely does exist. It’s not always easy to find, but I did find it last time I was in Tesco.
Spice also exists near thyme. It is plentiful but not infinite as they say.
@@Tezzzaaa It’s my understanding that thyme and spice are actually part of the same collective thing known as “spice thyme”. I assume they can sometimes just come in the same packet. If it’s a large mass it can warp the spice thyme packet into funny shapes. Doesn’t affect the pice thyme flavour, but just interesting that it warps as many physicists seem to think that’s an important detail.

It is always incredible to learn how things were discovered, especially so long ago. How the speed of light was discovered is so clever it blew my mind. If I was transported to 1600s, I don't even think I could of imagined a way to prove it, even though I know it to be true.
It didn't begin in 1600s. The great Sanskrit texts reached the looters of Europe by 1600s through arabia. It is in the very nature of white supremacists, especially those from Europe to put their brand name on every scientific discovery whether or not they actually had anything to do with it. They even don't spare languages. Little surprise then that they have given zero credit to India and given the entire narration based on their Euro centric narcissism.

If light itself cannot escape a black hole, could a black hole be spinning every direction at once? And if so, could that omnidirectional spin be a factor in how other things interact with one. Also, has anyone ever considered that we are inside a black hole right now?
Yes. The inside of a black hole would be a white hole, the exact opposite of a black hole.
A white hole would look a lot like what we call the big bang, and as far as we can tell it's only happened once in our universe.
what would it even mean to spin in multiple directions at the same time? Take a marble. Spin it. Try to envision it rotating simultaneously in the opposite direction. Let me know what that looks like, because otherwise I don't think your post makes sense. Also, what does the spinning have to do with whether or not light itself can escape a black hole? What I mean is, if you started your post, "If light *CAN* escape a black hole, could a black hole be spinning every direction at once?" maybe the non-sequitur is more recognizable that way...?

I was so thrilled to get a new video from this channel which was immediately tempered by my inability to properly grasp the concepts as well as a good dose of existential dread. Still, l do actually prefer these channels and the distress that occurs when a channel creator overestimates my intelligence rather than the distress of their underestimating it.
I suggest not focusing on the theoretical reasoning,
Rather focus on the implications of these concepts as a whole.
There's simplicity in our complex reasoning, when observing it from a different perspective.

I usually never comment on any video with TH-cam. And personally I like watching this channel as my top channel. Helps me learn alot too! But of all the videos this channel ever produced. This by far is probably the best episode of any program I have ever seen in my 45 years of interest in this topic. In fact it is so good, and if you are a science person, it will make you shed a tear at the very end until the credits roll. I have never experienced that ever in a science program. Maybe close with Carl Sagan. And you truly can be compared to Carl Sagan today, over any other person who tries to express or explain Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Or Space and Time.
It is one thing that makes you sit back and wonder about the God of the Gaps. Is it truly possible, there is a God in how we have been created from nothing? Only with this episode, I had that thought pass in my mind. Weird. I never expected it. And I'm not some religious guy either I can tell you that for sure.
But as Proximo said in the movie Gladiator. "We are shadows and dust"! How true this will be in our future.
And to understand that even the hint of space and time may not even exist, but only from our perspective. Is intriguing. Hmm?
And even better yet. Your explanation of Relativity, and Space and Time, is now meaningful to me. I always had a tough time grasping the full concept and piecing it together. But you opened my mind of thinking again. And you were able to explain it, in a way, that it became simplistic to truly understand in the end.
I truly hope a part 2 is being made. And that it rides off the back of this episode.

@@Numba003 I agree with you. In fact, I have studied Theology for quite some time as well. And find it fascinating how religions have become what they are today. Though I may be more in belief of the Abrahamic faiths personally. And not a devout follower as I should be. And when we as humans approach the mysteries of the Universe. The unexplained ends up as "God of the Gaps". As only God would know the answer in its meaning. Which brings to mind the Atheist belief, over my belief and yours. My answer to so many Atheists is this. "You may win and there was no God. Or. I may win, because there was a God. So, what do I have to lose? I win in both directions.
It is just us. We see ourselves as the ever-conquering creature. Who is above all. Animals with a gift of conscience, and self-awareness.
But we are so insignificant, so miniscule in the timeline of even our planet, let alone the universe. Imagine your own passing in this world. All your memories, your laughs, your studies of great leaders, your children and families, and your feeling of a happiness, and sadness, and the feeling of a warm sun on a cool day. Is so insignificant. It will all come to an end. Even the history of our entire human civilization, every great thinker, or leader, from the dawn of man until the future of mankind that moves on. All animals and plants and microbes that ever lived will come to an end.
We are just a ball of atoms, assembled by our sun’s ingredients, assembled in a order of creation that has form.
And in such a small amount of time. It will all end! It's kind of sad really.
So Imagine this. You are on a beach alone with a pale. The pale has 1 grain of sand in it. And you look left and right as you hold that pale. And you only see an endless beach of sand until the eye can't see it anymore. The pale in relation to the beach is just the timeline of the planet earth you know of. The grain of sand is the timeline of all living things we know of today in that pale. The beach is the timeline of the universe. But it has one problem. The beach isn't anywhere near the size of the timeline of the universe. There is about 5 sextillion grains of sand on all the beaches on earth. About 6 sextillion cups of water too. And the universe will be here for 100 Trillion years from now. Or maybe even more.
Our insignificance is well defined.
But to have a glimmer of hope, can be comforting. And take away the sadness for now.
@@synologyonline Thank you for your response and your cordiality my friend. I am a Christian myself. Have you ever read the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible? Your response is similar in some ways, albeit more thoroughly scientifically and statistically written. It's about how very small we are, how little we know, and how meaningless so much of our time spent is when viewed from a purely naturalistic perspective. And yet, for all that, I find it an optimistic book when it contemplates the existence of God and some of His character. We are but a small blip that cannot possibly understand all of Creation, so it is best to serve God and accept that the One who created everything is all powerful and all good. As such, everything will work out okay for those who follow Him, even if it doesn't always seem to from our little perspective.
My own life has been forever changed for the better since I gave my life to Christ.

Ecclesiastes? I've read all Old and New Testament literature. Quranic, and Jewish as well.
Ecclesiastes, was Old Testament literature, and it was believed to be written by Solomon.
And such a mystical person he was with his magical ring. He was able to tame daemons to work for him.
And yes. Many anecdotes in Ecclesiastes talk about a very similar topic as here in this TH-cam video, and comments.
Though it may be Islam that tends to be more scientific of any of the Abrahamic faiths.
In fact more I think more scientists have a tendency to convert to Islam.

I just read all the books that all have written.
And review the scholarly view points of the 3 faiths.

If you really study alot of theology, like I do.
Christianity,,,,weeeeellll,,,,,,, is probably the least religious group to consider. The most divided religious group too.
The same group that not even a single person of its faith has ever in history followed the teachings about the person for which its book was written for.
The faith has been so molded over time since it's inception. Its really hard to tell if even it is Christianity anymore. Even modern churches are again molding the whole faith again with LGBTQ into the fold. And even pointing out words and emphasizing them as to their cause. I can hear the preacher now! "Join our church as we accept all, even You, the LGBTQ people. God loves you"!
This is just one example that exists of the many changes man makes in a religion to get people in.
And I think Canada passed a law not long ago about the bible as a Myth. Geez a law about the Bible being a myth?
The faith itself even molded old pagan holidays so as the Romans would love it even more, and melt into more easily.
i.e. Christmas, Hollows Eve, Easter, etc, etc. All with pagan origins.
Even Jesus's very image. Long haired light skinned man in a robe with sandals.
Why would anyone follow that, and accept those changes?
I doubt that is a image of the Shazu/Habiru(Israelites) the Egyptians mentioned that came out of Africa and went to Canaan.

But the world has been plagued and forced to believe otherwise. But think about that one. The answers been there all along for about 2000 years.
The early days of Christianity started out as 2 groups. Well 1 actually, and then 2.
1-The Judeo-Christians(Jesus and his Followers).
2-The Pauline-Christians(the newly molded version of Devine Jesus as a son of God).
The Judeo-Christians group was headed up by Jesus himself. And even Jesus's number 2 man his own brother were promoting the real teachings of Jesus's message, and the Mosaic Laws. And those teachings were only for the Jews. Nobody else. Paul would change this message for all later.
Jesus's mission is to get the Jews back on track, and to follow the Mosaic law again.
As so many had gone astray and corrupted. And so bribed by many Romans.
Jesus was like a warning to the Jews of coming catastrophe if the Jews didn't change their ways.
Now Paul is another story.
He is very mystical. Out killing Christians one day. And then a follower(and leader) the next.
In Fact we don't know anything really about Paul. He truly is a mystery. Scary guy actually.
But Paul would take Jesus to a elevated level as a God. and son of God with salvation and forgiveness. And make him Devine.
The Romans loved this too. As they had a faith too that didn't have salvation.
And many accepted this Devine faith Paul started.
And Paul's new faith really grew in popularity. In fact so big, they literally killed off all the original Judeo-Christians.
That is Jesus, his brother James, and those early first followers of Jesus.
And Yes. The Judeo-Christians were all killed off by the Romans. Because of Paul.
Because Judeo-Christians had a message of Jesus for the Jews only, and getting back to the Mosaic laws.
All died. All were killed off by Paul's group.
In doing so. The Pauline followers had no competition, and their belief grew, grew, and grew, and became the Christianity we know today.
Sad. All this is forgotten, or made to believe it wasn't true by so many churches today. Promoting a bible written 100's of years after Jesus. LOL! How would they know? They weren't even there. Book of Mark, maybe as it is the oldest of books. but rewritten as we see from the Dead Sea scrolls interpretations.
Wait. It gets better.
It's even believed that Paul and his followers even killed James. Jesus's own brother.
Yes!
Why do think James is only mentioned a couple times in the bible. And Paul mentioned over a hundred times?
Because Paul needs to eliminate James belief about his brother Jesus, so the Romans don't persecute him for manipulating the people.
And who would know better about Jesus than James his own brother. James the head of the Judeo-Christian Church after Jesus died. Yes. The very James, the one called "Old Camel Knees" for how much he prayed on his knees. Like other Abrahamic faiths do.
Many, Theologians, believe that the passage of "Our Brother Steven" being clubbed and thrown down the stairs, was actually James, the brother of Jesus. And that Paul created that mob to kill James(Steven in the bible).
Professor Eisenman believes this, and has proof. And if he is correct, and like many others believe he is(et.al).
Paul literally murdered Jesus's brother to eliminate the competition.
And promoted his version of a faith so many Christians would follow today.
So much evidence to back that all up too.
So I believe we need to look outside the box. Like even what this channel is doing.
No single thing.
I say, Don't be gullible.
Be aware. And never fully convinced.
Keeps the mind open. Ready to learn new.
It prepares us to learn alot more as we expand our knowledge of our past, and our future.
And we may, just may, find out that the true God of all 3 of those faiths was in there all along.

To those who are just starting to study this topic, this video might seem "amazing" and "award worthy", however taking into account all the science that humanity has collected to this point, and the philosophical knowledge,,, this video touches upon only a small portion of information.
But MOST importantly, it leads in the wrong way, leading people to spend their time thinking "Oh my goodness, what is space, what is time, they are so myphterious, are they even real", (this is childish), but the more important questions are: " how the mind makes sense of everything? what is life? what kind of person are you? how to better oneself?"
If we get caught up in the physics, which are secondary, we are lost. Physics are the result, and we need to go to the source. The source is consciousness, awareness, the Mind. If you want to block a river, you do not do it at the waterfall, but at the source.
The MIND or consciousness gives point and sense to everything, so THEORIES, and these are ONLY theories, of "relativity, or is time real?", blah blah, will just waste your life. And everyone who has studied this for some time, knows that time is not important, it is relative, and just a tool for measuring, it is used to make life easier in society, in cities... , But, it is worthless in Nature, there is no BIG ass secret as the author presents it, about time. Space, and the passage of space, that is the real mystery, but even more mysterious is, "who are We in this great calculus of life" and what you do with your life, what kind of person you are and how you make yourself better
