Quick timeline for you Mapo. You experienced 2 paradoxes, so this is the third timeline.
Year -20 : William the Just is killed by a vampire assassin (Kain), Moebius's crusade begins.
Year 0 : Death of Ariel/Birth of Kain. Raziel's first time travel emergence. Raziel spare Kain when History and Destiny collided.
Year 30 : Kain becomes a vampire and kills every members of the Circle. Vorador is killed and Kain refuse the sacrifice.
Year 130 : This is when Raziel emerge the second time from the time streaming chamber after being stranded by Moebius.
Year 1500 : Raziel is thrown in the Abyss by his brethren, all of this ordered by Kain.
Year 2500 : Raziel emerge from the Abyss
It will be expanded at every video you release to incorporate more events :D

    1:34:21 "The Heart of Greenness"
    1:44:18 "The Heart of Redness"
    1:56:35 "The Heart of Blueness"
Don't tell me I'm the only one who heard that in my head.
I love how Raziel gets blown around by the first statue, but wises up and takes cover for the other two. It's nice to see characters learn in cutscenes.

At least with Mobius being dead, he can't cause the video series to upload in the wrong order. Thank you Younger Kain. There are three Balance Guardians that you have seen an unnamed woman who was killed by Vorador, her successor Ariel who was killed by Mortanius under the possession of the Dark Entity, her successor Kain who was killed by bandits on Mortanius's orders who then raised Kain as a vampire.

16:20 The way the time travel works in this series is that essentially only the bare minimum events required to resolve a paradox will change when time is altered. So in the case of Raziel not killing Kain in this timeline, the only thing that changed was that the older Kain will now continue to exist, but we do not know what would have happened had Raziel killed Kain because we have not seen it. Nothing about the events of Blood Omen or Soul Reaver would be any different since what Raziel changed was not something related to those events. Had Raziel met and killed the YOUNG Kain then yes things would certainly be vastly different.
Also 1:06:29 I don't believe Kain is supposed to have waited 100 real time years before you see him in this cutscene, Raziel seems to imply that he must have time traveled also when he says 'You are persistent, crossing time like this to follow me', as remember Kain is fully aware of how to use the time streaming devices without Mobius' aid.

    • @LuBronyr
      @LuBronyr ปีที่แล้ว +1

I belive Raziel killing younger Kain would not really change the events. That's the point of William. The only reason why younger Kain could change the future is because both of them have been armed with the Soul Reaver during their confrontation. To quote Kain: "The Reaver is the key." I suspect that killing younger Kain would only result in him being resurrected. Granted, that could be prevented by Raziel devouring younger Kain's soul. Alternatively, the history would elect a new character to take Kain's role. Likely a new balance guardian but the events themselves would not change that much. As you've said, only bare minimum events would take place to resolve the paradox and the history is pretty good in staying rigid.
Unless ... younger Kain wields the Soul Reaver when confronting Raziel. Then it would probably create enough of a temporal distortion since multiple versions of the Reaver would meet.
EDIT: Oh shit wait, I just realized that Raziel would be able to change the future with his actions alone because ... well ... he does have an unique quality but that's a spoiler for future events.

  • @seanraby7479
    @seanraby7479 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yeah, Legacy of Kain is one of my absolute favorite series of all time. Now you see why we're such a passionate fanbase and why the premature end was so crushing!
The lower Pillar chamber isn't Kain's throne or the future Sanctuary. It's the above ground area. I can see how you'd make that mistake, I did to for YEARS. But if you go back and actually look you'll see that Kain's throne has the same base platform as the above ground Pillars. The same round platform with a little stub coming out the bottom (opposite the Balance Pillar) and one jutting out to the lower-left side. The below ground chamber doesn't have that. I'd also point out that it's sitting on a big pit of water. Though that could be filled in and the murals erased or changed later. But the lower Pillar room also has the elemental symbols on the platform, while Kain's throne and the above-ground Pillar platform doesn't. They have the black and gold circular designs.
Also, I never really got the idea that the Elder was in one place and moved around. I always got the impression that he was like a cancer, spread all throughout Nosgoth. Maybe that's just knowledge from future games being retroactively applied, though.
God, can I just say that I love how Raziel talks? Every interaction he has had with Mobius previously makes it blatantly clear that he doesn't trust anything the man says and is annoyed that he keeps his poor act up. And now he sees Kain and goes "oh no, what big mind-blowing plot exposition is going to happen now?" I just love how fed up he is with everyone's shit. I also love how amused Kain is by Raziel's annoyance and how explained how Raziel's feelings don't matter about them not being allies and Mobius being a pawn. Like an annoyed teacher patiently explaining something to a particularly oblivious student.
I'm right there with you about loving how time travel is handled here. No butterfly effect where even the tiniest changes have wildly cascading effects. Changes are only possible through the use of paradox and only the tiniest changes are allowed. As Kain puts it history follows the path of least resistance, and if this can't occur the 'irritant' gets expelled.
Can I just say that the puzzles in this game are far better than in the first Soul Reaver? In the last game it was (almost) all just block puzzles. Put them into slots, and sometimes match up the faces. But the Reaver Forges here each have a complex series of puzzles. Each one unique to the element of the forge and following the same theme. This games puzzles are so much better than SR1.

46:49 -- It did, though it didn't advertise it particularly well. You can overcome an enemies defenses by throwing in some low blows (i.e., attacking while crouching). Also, I've found that if you give your enemy an opening to attack you, you'll often be able to beat him to the punch as he lowers his guard to strike.

I love that interaction between Kain and Raziel, Raziel seems almost boastful and proud of Kain, akin to a pride one would feel about their older brother, while Kain is gently blunting his boast, advising caution, again akin to how one would caution their younger brother. And again, this interaction shows the thousand years of loyalty between them, as even though Raziel rejects the idea of him being allied with Kain's cause, his actions and manner of speaking betray that in his heart he knows otherwise.

When using weapons only attack when there's an opening. They will rarely unblock if you are spamming attacks. Dodging a power attack will give you a good opening to land a full combo. Raziels also has a sneaky low kick that you can use when crouching.

17:40 - The Legacy of Kain wiki describes it well but spoilers ahead.
We only ever truly see the altered future. I don't want to spoil everything but we know that Kain went back and time and killed William and that was a history change. Had he not, we don't know what would have happened as the Nemesis destroyed Nosgoth, but likely the Vampires survived (beyond just Kain) and the ruin of Nosgoth continues regardless. Moebius wanted to avert this, because he had a hatred of the vampires that is explained in Legacy of Kain: Defiance. That being said, this very act could have been the catalyst for Kain choosing not to make the sacrifice, as he wouldn't have had to worry about the extinction of the vampires.
We also know, another timeline could have spawned had Raziel opted to kill Moebius when he meets him after he's repaired the Reaver. Had he killed Moebius then, he would have never had the chance to manipulate Kain and likely the Vampires survival would have happened.
We also know another timeline did spawn as, Raziel refused to kill Kain. Had he opted to kill Kain in the Cathedral it would effectively the been the end of that timeline. What could have happened is a spoiler for the end of this game but basically history ends there and nothing changes, likely Nosgoth remains damned.

1:03:00 Kain can't see the elder god, only you can, even in the material.
He exists in both realms at once, and so only someone like Raziel can see him, who also exists in both realms at once.

The way I've come to think of LoK time rules is that Time itself is a sentient force, though not a sapient one. It does not have it's own 'will' but it is alive, and it instinctually hates change. In game they often compare time to a river, speeding by and finding the path of least resistance. There are no multiple realities or offshoot timelines, no Parallel Worlds Theory, and you can never return to a history lost. There is the one Living Timeline flowing through oblivion that cannot be redirected without monumental effort, and even then the redirection is sometimes temporary, pushing events off a few centuries rather than eliminating them.

It's likley that in the millenium since this moment Ariel forgot Raziel, that or that the timestream corrected her memory, rushing over like the river Kain described it as. Same diffence really. But no, there is no multiple timelines, mearly what should have been and what it has become due to the machinations of others.

You're gonna hate this, but there IS a way to break through blocking enemies. There are THREE ways.
    1) You crouch, then attack. They can't block this and their AI tells them to start using low attacks to try and hit you and stop blocking.
    2) Perform a lunging attack from outside of melee range (dodge forward, into the enemy and press the attack button). Enemies don't block when you're outside of range and the lunging attack is too quick for them to react to. It also deals extra damage.
    3) Stop autofacing and run circles around them while spamming attack. They can't spin fast enough to face you and thus can't block, but these running attacks do the least damage.

1:12:30 I can blast multiple of these demons easily, you're just a lazy player.
You haven't learned you can just double tap to take out the reaver during combat, so don't put it out and in during combat.
You haven't learned you can throw quickly in combat to be drop weapons and stun enemies.
You desperately try to endlessly hit and kill enemies as fast as possible, without taking any time at all to consider them opponents instead of things that are in your way.
As such you just endlessly dash and walk into attacks whilst trying to swing, and even during this, 95% of the time you don't dash forward attack, but just swing when out the way.
You never block, you never do a lot of things, you've not learned to untoggle and toggle in combat to quick jump dodge.
When there are souls to eat and projectile shooting enemies, a lot of times there have been walls you could get behind to chill and suck em all in not a few steps from you, but you are too lazy to even take an extra second to get behind it, you've did this multiple times.
Simply put, you can't be bothered learning or remembering any of this, or even putting in effort or trying for a moment in any fight, you just want to win immediately, so you fail and struggle so much.
Ironically you're laziness to avoid effort has you putting in more.
Your character is literally invincible, this isn't a cruel game.

Maaaaaan it’s just so, so good re-experiencing this game through the eyes of someone else who appreciates it. And who also suffered thanks to the difficulty spike from those blasted demons XD.
There are so many ludicrously good scenes throughout this series but the more I think about it, even though the coin landing on its edge scene is deservedly legendary, I think my personal favourite in this game is the one that starts roughly around the 58 minute mark here. It’s such a surprisingly quiet and often funny scene, almost a moment of reprieve from the drama, and “Oh no, every time you show up something monumental and terrible happens” is delivered so dryly it cracks me up every time.
Absolutely loving this play through, and have left some more likes in gratitude 🫡. I don’t envy you having to endure Blood Omen 2 next (which I had fun with at the time, but imho it’s the weakest in the series as far as writing goes), but at least after that you’ll have Defiance! I think SR2 will forever be my favourite, but I am very grateful that Defiance was a worthy stopping point.
