I come back to this every few years and am still blown away by how whimsical and otherworldly this sounds. One of the few songs that has the ability to transport you somewhere far away from here.
My father showed me this video when i was young, now that i just found it it brings back alot of memories. He played it all around the house and when i couldn't sleep he would pull out his phone and played this for me. My older cat named neo used to love this song as well, so when he passed away during January we played this for him on his last living night and when we buried him. Thank you so much for doing this so i can have those memories right here in this video :)
It's honestly amazing how many different kinds of instruments people have thought up over the last few thousand years. I have to wonder, how much is planned and how much is just trial and error?
Actually these instruments kalimba, mbira and sansula etc are way older than that. We don't even know how old for sure but you can learn more at Kalimbamagic and see all the great instruments available.
We have been making instruments for an incredibly long time. Check out rock gongs. They are so old we can only take guesses at how they were usually played.
14 years later, and this song still lives inside me. I'm so glad for this gift. I've changed so much through these years, but the part of me who discovered and fell in love with this piece and with the kalimba is still there, unchanged ❤
❤ 14 years go very very quickly. You have scary times so many up and down.... but in the end we are still here somehow... i knownthere should have been many i should have just gone but miraculously survived.. I have a amazing 7yr old boy and right when I won full custody of him then when he was not even 6months old i found a beautiful girl and now she has been the love of my life for the past 7 years and I'm so scared she is going to leave me ann it's unreal everyday I wake up and think today is the day she's going to turn around and just leave..
we couldn't decide which is true: +SaReGaMa: a) you first composed this on sheet then performed b) you improvised from one theme to the other over a long time and played them back to back for this performance
mikael henry know any good places to get a decent one, for relatively cheap but with a good amount of keys? ( i already tried ebay, too expensive for me atm)
that what i think.I saw that cost 50 ou 40 $ but at this price you have 5 or 6 blades, while in putting $ 100 you have a handmade instrument and set to the lotus music :)
Do you have a remaster of this? Id like to hear it with the best possible audio quality. If you dont that's fine I will continue to listen to this from time to time
I doubt anybody else is reminded of this, but whenever I hear this song it makes me think of a small river in some forest and everything just feels so peaceful and calm. I listen to this when ever I get too stressed and it always works to calm me down
This is probably one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard on an instrument as "simple" as the kalimba...an instrument one can pull out of a pocket. Speedy texters already have a leg up with this little beauty of an instument.
I love this instrument, the hard thing about this song is the rithm difference between the two hands. It requires a lot of practice and I've yet to master this skill. I'M NOT GIVING UP THOUGH!!!
It can make the mind calm .. and I was picturing I was in a forest and mingle it .. I met many animals there .. this song really got me into the vast imagination
If you hesitate to buy one of these amazing instrument, please don't ! It's been only 2 months that I have one kalimba, and 3 days one karimba (the same that on the video) and I enjoy so much to play with it ! These instrument have a sound that no one can dislike !
I was watching this on another site, and immediately thought- this needs to be recorded :O so i came to youtube and saw that not only is there an mp3, buts its for free! my day has been made!
Incredible emotions. I've had wonderful visions when I listen to this many times. I see a being running around searching for something for an enormous amount of time through trees in moonlight. 2 mins in it starts to skip & dance before a full lift off into complete weightlessness & then descends back down to previous reality with a vague sense of immortality. Thanks for your beautiful music.
Just bought the tabs and video for this song and currently learning it! I also picked up a kalimba from him about 6 years ago, and he’s really as magical as the instrument…
I always find myself coming back to kalimba covers because it's such a beautiful and versatile instrument, but this is one of my favorite videos to revisit
I'm trying to focus on which notes are played by which thumb, and I can hear the ones on the right thumb but why does it sound like the left thumb doesn't match up with those set of notes?
The beats for either thum are off-like the right one is played evenly where it goes back and forth on the beat. But it the left hand it’s kind of a dactyl pattern with long short short. So no, they don’t line up.
Hello. I m going to buy a kalimba, and want to ask a question: why in your video it sounds really well, but in other videos, it sounds bad. Does this depends on a kalimba or your skills?
Depends on brand and microphone quality. What I play in this video is the Hugh Tracey Karimba, it has the best sound comparing to any other kalimba I have played.
I come back to this every few years and am still blown away by how whimsical and otherworldly this sounds. One of the few songs that has the ability to transport you somewhere far away from here.
You're right for sure. It's been 3 years since i've found this song and i still come back to it and enjoy.
yep it still does it for me and ive heard it about once every 6 months for the past 6 or 7 years
Same here, so great eheh

Quit talking about texting and pay this artist some respect! Astounding skills, it's like magic. I bow before you!

I come back to this video every now and then and it still puts a massive smile on my face. It’s so good thank you 🙌🏼

This is the solution to so many problems in the world.
if there is a starving child in front of you you would just seat in front of it and play with your kalimpa?
Haze yes
Haze actually music can soothe hunger, for a short time of course, anyways what would you do? oh that is right nothing, like the rest of us.
can it raise my grades in math tho
@@dariazaldrizoti900 not directly but yes. Your mind likes entertaining and adapts to learn new things over time.
I keep coming back after years, hope this video never gets deleted
Me too
Same, this song makes me feel nostalgic
The feeling when you hear it is undescribable. It's so peaceful and a relaxing sensation. I love it 👍💓
After 4 years, I'm still loving it!
The opening part feels like that specific part of the movie where the protagonist is close on solving the crime/riddle.
Jazzglenn It reminds me of the scene in London in Star Trek: Into Darkness.
heh, I think it better fits a documentary
for me, it's fleeing at night
Wow !! Cheers for your skills..
The instrument sound is just so heavenly and nostalgic !!!
Dhiren Khantwal Nostalgic?
Dhiren Khantwal yeah. Makes me think of when I was younger

Only 300? This guy is OVER 9000!!
I wonder if these types of comments still exist in 2022.
It sounds the way magic would sound, like an enchanted fairytale with mythical creatures dancing in the woods.
Are u a hocotpus?
Quiet possibly... what's a hocotpus btw? haha
I'ts you
I never knew
Now you do
It's the first time I've ever heard of the instrument (thanks to tumblr) and OMG it's amazing, I want to buy one now and play it
that what i did ;)
mikael henry know any good places to get a decent one, for relatively cheap but with a good amount of keys? ( i already tried ebay, too expensive for me atm)
i bought the lotus kalimba (the same on the video) on the website of the video description. expensive but it's exactly the same
mikael henry ah ok, so the only way i can get a good one is if i pay a decent amount?
that what i think.I saw that cost 50 ou 40 $ but at this price you have 5 or 6 blades, while in putting $ 100 you have a handmade instrument and set to the lotus music :)
The addition of loose metal rings on the keys is genius to add that rattling texture to each note played.

Dovydas Ki because this one is one of the best. Its B17 and its not piano version, its thumb drum. And 100 Dollars...
I'd like to get this instrument for my daughter. I'm not clear what you are calling it and where to find one. Could you steer me? Thanks.
This is so relaxing listening to it at night when I'm totally baked.
Love the tempo at 1:37. I already have my 12-key on order. Can't wait to play. Excellent video and beautiful music. Thanks.
I'm just imagining a vivid rainforest. Something wonderful about just relaxing and being swept away by music.
