Looks a lot like my old home waters in the Manatee River in Bradenton. Love the boat. The bottom is going on my 19’ Garvey Dory this week. Your videos on this boat and the Albion gave me a lot of confidence through the process.
Nice little boat. Just wondering if you could show your friend walking the top rail when it not tied to the dock? I want to see him get dunked! Ha ha ha
You can do a lot and just take one tank of gas. I've built wooden and aluminum boats. The aluminum is Aluminum is lighter but makes a lot of noise when the water slaps on the bottom. Wooden boat is heavier and more stable.
@@barnettstrongmanjnes5023 I would love a welded aluminum skiff style boat, imagine a hull that doesn't require maintenance! If anybody knows of a welded aluminum skiff in the northeast, I am a cash buyer.
Really like your videos. I wish you had put your actual side height and length dimensions. I bought Walters plans and I wanted to stretch the 16' er to 18 to match a boat trailer I have acquired and I'm not smart enough to figure out the sheer line. I'm re-watching your videos to see if you mention your process. Hope your boats are still floating. Thanks.
I lost most of the video of putting that boat together. Just add 2' to the transom end is how I remember doing it. I dont have the plans available to look at so you check and see if that works. Good building.
Did you stay close to shore or is this boat sturdy enough for a trip further out? I'm thinking of building something that I don't have to keep within the limits of Tampa Bay.
Random question...What kind of wood do you use to fill the gap between the inwhale(spelling?) and the hull? Is it just plywood cut to that shape or what?
Wonderful build, great videos. Thanks for sharing with us. About how many man hours did you put into the boat? Was the graphite/epoxy mixture on the bottom just to add durability to the part of the boat that receives the most abuse, or are there other reasons for it as well?
It took 3 weeks at around 8hrs. a day. I could do it in 2 weeks if it was a straight work boat. I have found that the graphite adds a good bit of durability to the bottom.
Thanks for your answers Mark, I'm going to build a boat soon and just not sure which boat to build. The boat I really want to build is the Spiral Sabine, I live in east Tn. And will mostly be fishing Watts Barr,Chickamaga. I love a boat with a big deck as I mostly bass fish but also want To go to the coast a time or 2 a year. Mainly cause you got me wanting to get some scallops. Lol Would love to talk to you on the phone cause Im not much at computers. Have emailed Jeff a couple times but you have built and fished out of the boats I like. The Sabine is your Jubilee just bigger and I want to deck the whole front kind like a flats boat. Let me know if you wouldn't care to give me a call. By the way my sister lives in north Bama in Culman.
+Rodney Stafford I'm not to sure how this works but if you can pm me your phone number I would be glad to talk to you. I will eventually build the Sabine. I think it would be a good boat. I might leave the stem a little long and raise the sheer to meet it.
Mark, another informative series of videos and as always an A+ boat. Very impressive! I was going to build the Albion but have decided to go with the 16' (maybe expanded to 18') Lumber Yard Skiff. Question for you; since I have no boat building experience I am not sure how to cut the bevels for the transom 4x4's, is it absolutely necessary?
+Alex Shillo yes cut the bevels. Go to the store and buy a speed square. It will allow you to set your angle and draw a line. If it is a compound mitre set the angle on the circular saw and cut. Sorry that I was not able to post videos on that. I covered the framing in great detail. but lost it all when the computer crashed..... The Albion and the 16 LYS are in different size categories. The Tilimook would be more near the same size as the 16' LYS. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Mark, I've been checking this build out and I haven't seen any information on what you actually did for the size modification. Did you scale the plans up 112%, just increase the length and spaced out the frames proportionately, or what?
Uh, um, I am pretty sure I added 2' 6" to the back end. But stretching it that way makes it so you have to look down the bottom after the sides are on to make sure it is strait. Then trim off some to make it strait if needed.
+Anthony Desandolo that boat in North Alabama cost around $2200. That was because of the cedar. I think you could get away with $1200-$1600 for a usable boat hull. Maybe less if you didn't glass it.
+Rodney Stafford Sorry I didn't see your other post. I knew it was going to be run by a 25Hp. I personally have a 19' Albion (Spira). The Albion is a wide boat and a 25hp suffers from that (Tried it). But I knew from reading that the 16' LYS did well with the 25Hp. But my brother and I like at least 18' boats so I stretched it. The 20' looks like a work horse. Just figure out your needs and pick the boat to fill them.
+ Brian Apple Yes I stretched it to 18'. I crashed my computer with all the raw video I had and lost all the building of the hull. I went over how I stretched it on that taw video but it is lost now.
Hi Mark, This video keeps getting more and more views!! Well done. Any input on my bottom flexing question? Also, Sugested improvements if any to the overall design? Thanks!
Nice build Mark! Quick question for you, I see you are in Alabama from your registration (i may be wrong) I actually live in Fairhope, and am building a wooden lumberyard skiff! Just wanted to see what all you have to have to pass the Marine Police inspection??
+Christopher Roberts pretty simple actually. Time. They just want to make sure you built it. The first one I built way back I had all the receipts and calculated how much foam floatation. I was ready to answer the hard questions. The Marine police showed up to inspect the boat and I started rattling off all the information I had composed. He looked at me and said "i'm not worried about all that . I just want to make sure the boat wasn't stollen". From what I have heard there are only 2 inspectors in the state one for the north and one for the south. They schedule the hulls in groups of location so I have had to wait as much as a month. so if I get to a point that I know I will have it ready in a couple of week I apply. www.outdooralabama.com/sites/default/files/HIN%20Application-Revised%202015_0.pdf

it’s Clearwater bay area. thanks for watching.
Awesome
just watched your whole series. helluva job!

Nice Build, very inspiring.
Nice boat Mark, thumbs up!

amazing boat!
Is this a 20 ft Lumber Yard Skiff?
Hey, I really enjoy your channel. So your brother is a guide and makes his living with this?
Random question...What kind of wood do you use to fill the gap between the inwhale(spelling?) and the hull? Is it just plywood cut to that shape or what?
If you are talking about the top rail ...yes!
Nice boat. How many hrs did it take and cost? Thank you

Starting my build soon! NSB, FL we have a machine and wood shop let us know if we can help anyone!

Mark can't you get plans for the LYS in a 20ft model. Any particular. reason you didn't go with the 20ft plans?
+rodney Built it for my brother and he didn't want to go as wide as the 20'
mark how much does it run you to build a boat like this.
+Anthony Desandolo that boat in North Alabama cost around $2200. That was because of the cedar. I think you could get away with $1200-$1600 for a usable boat hull. Maybe less if you didn't glass it.
Mark please let me know why you stretched the 16 and didn't build the 20fter

Mark, that looks great. Was this boat built from the "old Warf" LYS plans? It looks bigger than the 16. Thanks
+ Brian Apple Yes I stretched it to 18'. I crashed my computer with all the raw video I had and lost all the building of the hull. I went over how I stretched it on that taw video but it is lost now.
Anyone can tell me what is the white platform over the outboard?
poling platform.
Hi Mark, great videos on the skiff build. Is this the LYSS (Sport) or the regular LYS?
LYSS
Thanks Mark! Have you or your brother noticed any flexing of the bottom when running in any chop?
Hi Mark, This video keeps getting more and more views!! Well done. Any input on my bottom flexing question? Also, Sugested improvements if any to the overall design?
Thanks!
is this the lyss or just the lys
lyss stretched 2'
do you think it would be possible to lower the sheer 9 inches?
I wouldn't. If you are worried about windage it is not much of a problem with this boat.

If you play the video at 2x speed, this boat goes really fast 😂
you're bored aren't you? :
Mark Vickers I was...but not at 2x speed :)
what was the total cost for this project without the motor
Less finished $1500 more finished $2300
