Safety pins! These are a great way to "tailor" your clothes if you aren't confident about/can't sew. (I know someone else mentioned it to, but if you are able, hand sewing is easier than machine sewing when it comes to adjustments, depending on where the adjustment is.) They don't have to be visible. You can always have the main pin facing the inside so only a little silver is visible. I can attest that this works great however you do it. Safety pins are the duck tape of the fashion world.
Great tips, thank you! I would add: think about the details! Sometimes a pin or a hair accessory or a fun pair of socks is all you need to turn a somewhat boring/simple outfit into something stylish and personal! Also, I think that well done layering is also instantly stylish.
Love these tips, they're so universal and fun instead of just saying 'wear red lipstick', It's always great to see a person who is able to tell the difference between stylish and fashionable. Also this hairstyle looks so cute on you ❤️
As a broke bish, I love thrifting even though it's slim pickings in my area, but I'm happy with finding just 1 item. When I was heavier, I barely had clothes that fit , I was starting my weight loss journey and decided to get a few pieces from shein because it was what I could afford, I bought items that I could alter easily when I lost the weight and that's exactly what I did, the pieces I got in 2021 have been altered to fit my new body and are being worn and they are still in great shape on top of that I recovered most of my wardrobe which I had kept in case I dropped the weight ( 3 30 gallon trash bags worth of clothing 😂)
I have also had many weight gain an loss journeys throughout my life. I say that many of us "wax and wane, like the moon."🌚 I know what you mean about the scarcity of plus size clothing, new or used. In my case, being at the upper end of plus size meant clothes were even harder to find. I hung on to multiple large totes of clothing for years until I finally donated them. I still try to leave too-big clothes at the thrift store for others to purchase if needed!
@lauramayer4896 I ended up donating the clothes that were way too big for me that I knew I couldn't alter. They were in great shape, and I knew someone would give them a new life 😊
This season I thrifted a very nice black wool coat that instantly makes me feel stylish even though it’s freezing out. I always hated how I looked in winter because big puffy coats always made me feel like a bowling ball, but this coat is crazy warm and so sleek!
Often times it’s easier for me to tailor clothing just by hand sewing. I find hand sewing much easier than dealing with/learning how to use a sewing machine. It does take longer…but if you’re not trying to mass produce clothing, hand sewing it’s a good skill to learn. All to say people should totally get a sewing machine if they want, but I’d like to encourage people not to feel like they need that in order to sew.
Great video, I love that you mention thrifting as a big way to be stylish! I totally agree - because you can find such unique items, and I think being sustainable is always stylish lol.
Love this list! I personally really admire when people incorporate fashion from their cultural/ethnic background into every day wear. Im thinking jewelry, patterns/silhouettes of clothes, maybe even hair styles :)
I love thrifting! My one issue is the scarcity mindset that slips in. I gotta buy that shirt, it’s the only one and it fits me and I like it…never mind that i desperately do not need another shirt. 😂 Love your video!
Thank you so much for making me these, I'm always so excited to see what you have to share and you've really helped me come into my own a little more with your videos. Have a good day!
This is thoughtful, as your videos always are! Thank you. I agree with what you've said, especially dressing as if a brand or brands just threw up on you. (You said it much more elegantly, though!😉) I have thrifted for decades, and further, learned it at my mother's knee. I am also on a limited income and for the past year and a half have volunteered at the local Humane Society thrift store. That means that even more of my wardrobe is thrifted now than in the past. Including shoes for my hard-to-fit feet. In fact, I just found a pair of shoes that may be one of my best-fitting pairs ever. They happen to be Rag & Bone. ("Branded" only on the insole!) I've never seen that brand in the wild, and picked them up because I liked the look and then after an hour at my volunteer shift wearing them, the feel. It was only when I realized they had to cime home with me that I noticed the label!
I love you and your videos, and your editing style - but this one I noticed the same photo(s) being shown over and over? Is it just me? But I love love love your commentary so much!!!❤
