Safety pins! These are a great way to "tailor" your clothes if you aren't confident about/can't sew. (I know someone else mentioned it to, but if you are able, hand sewing is easier than machine sewing when it comes to adjustments, depending on where the adjustment is.) They don't have to be visible. You can always have the main pin facing the inside so only a little silver is visible. I can attest that this works great however you do it. Safety pins are the duck tape of the fashion world.

I like all these looks. They are very creative (and whimsical!) while sticking to the academia assignment! But, I found the description of one of your looks as "1970s Girl Scout," um, puzzling. I say this as someone who actually was a Girl Scout in the 70s and it wasn't really anything I remember seeing or experiencing! Maybe I wasn't paying attention?🤔

8:26 I agree with you but on the other hand I think it’s a good thing we’re recycling and renaming trends that already exist because this means we don’t have to build a whole new wardrobe to fit in new trends. I’m actually tired of all these microtrends popping up everywhere and not sticking around!

I think these were all great advices! My biggest advice would be to take inspiration from movies and art that you are drawn to, especially motifs. For me, I’m drawn towards butterflies, dead roses, skulls and moons n stars. And stop over analyzing “will it fit my aesthetic?!” Trying to box yourself in will only kill your creativity. If you like something, find ways to incorporate it into different looks. Don’t just throw it out, work with it. My personal style will almost always have these running themes, not because it fits an aesthetic, but because it’s what I like. I myself live in a very “Vanilla” city. Most people here wear off the rack Walmart clothes. Dressing even the slightest bit different will gain attention, but Ive found it’s mostly positive! People come up to me and say how much they love my look, so I would say don’t be afraid to stand out. I’m 36 now and I believe fashion should be fun. I don’t think I’ll ever “grow out” of my goth “phase”😂.

on 8:50 when I wear Cheetah print, I WANT it to be tacky, that adds an extra layer of ~outfit~ to me, men hate a woman being tacky so I LOOOOVE a tacky cheetah print outfit. I used to hate it growing up, but I realized it was the social shorthand for a "cheap" woman and that I was suffering from internalized misogyny. I love wearing things tacky.

I miss print fashion magazines so much! They were always a complete and total feast for the eyes. When I was in high school in 04-07ish, my dream was to be a magazine editor. I had a Teen Vogue subscription, and even my dad (not even remotely a fashion person) enjoyed flipping through it because it was like looking through a book of art.

18:16 yes!! I’ve seen tons and tons of online influencers just wearing that, i mean it’s cute, boxers are just like the fun shorts. But seeing thousands of them wearing the exact same thing in the exact same way makes it sooooo boring. There’s always the baby tee or a tank top with an oversized shirt with the boxers, long socks, adidas samba and the cap😞😞😞for a hundredth time, it’s cute but if you’re gonna make fashion your thing at least personalized it a bit PLEASE😭 make it fresh and interesting. i think we are seeing the start of a significant shift in the fashion industry, with fashion trends and fast fashion/overconsumption running itself into the ground. with the rise in popularity of thrifting, i think slowly that will become the main resource for acquiring clothing and that really makes people think about their personal style. everyone wants to be unique individuals and i think with there being enough clothes on earth to clothe the next six generations of people, we can cycle through and combine old trends and pieces and diy things into infinite combinations for us to play around with. fashion is becoming more sustainable and postmodern, which kinda makes things like fashion mags and predictions redundant.

I love hearing your thoughts on trends, and I feel like the redundancy kind of comes with trends. Fashion trends are just old trends that are being cycle through, but I feel like with the age of the internet, trends cycle through so much more quickly. Right now im pretty comfortable with my whimisgoth witchy vibes as I’m exploring the more spiritual side of myself.

I will spend this year continuing experimenting and developing my style. Working on utilizing the piece I got in 2024, by less and if I do, try to get it second hand
