This shows the great quality of gold. They were buried in a rusted can for over a hundred years, but they appear absolutely mint. Any other coin would be badly rusted and corroded, but not gold. It's like it didn't age at all.
Good for them. If I would found those here in Finland, our natioanal department of museums would seize the coins and I would not receive one cent from the find.
The FBI would be on your ass so fast you wouldn't even be able to say "lightning". Think about it, the government is aware of how many of these coins are still out there, and selling these for hundreds of thousands at a time would start to raise some eyebrows. The NSA would be hunting ur IP down, and next thing you know Agent 1 and Agent two are standing outside of your door with loaded guns. They confiscate the coins and accuse you of theft. Now you're doing jail time in a cell with bubba and Bertha, and they're making brown sugar outta your asshole. This couple did the right thing by coming out with the coins.
LeprachaunLucky the FBI doesn’t care if you sell coins on eBay...they’re not stolen or illegally possessed. Finders keepers laws give them the right to do what they want.

I heard about this story from watching mysteries at the museum. In the 1800s, a guy who worked at the bank was stealing gold coins. When the bank came up short, eventually, it was figured out, and he got arrested and sent to prison. He served his time, but he either never went back for the money or couldn’t locate the money.
To all those people saying they are not lucky or i can't find anything cool . Maybe try putting down your smart phones and tablets and or get off your computer and go outside FFS . I know one thing for sure you wont find anything sitting inside your house or apartment
Who cares! If someday I would find something like that, I'd melt all in small pieces and start to sell in pawn stores in different cities once per year, for sure I will get enough money trough the years for living good the rest of my days...
1963 our bar in northern california was burglarized...we had a huge safe, had gold coins in it. the owner of the bar was Greek and had stored them in the safe for years. They were 20 dollar gold coins. We assumed someone from Happy Camp hid in the bar in the bathroom, hid up above and waited until it was closed. He then broke open the safe and took all the gold coins. They were never recovered.
When the poop impacts the rotary airfoil what are you going to do with your gold? Try to buy some food for your family with a 1 oz gold bar? Somebody’s gotta find this couple is the typical liberal response. Her thought is these people shouldn’t have this money. This should be taken by the government. When it comes to her money she wants to keep hers. She just doesn’t believe in people having wealth other than the liberal government and the media. Btw there is no difference between the two
Yea probably not totally transparent, but that's not stupid. Also, they could very well be loaded already, or, they found much more than they reported.
That would be fun to experience eh. You know there are probably countless buried gold coins, bars, etc., around the world. Really crazy how they stumbled onto this stash tho. Often stories like this have some sort of hidden twist that we don't get to hear.
Whoever says melt it is not only foolish for loosing $millions but additionally selfish for destroying these rare historical pieces. One of those coins is worth more than all the coins in gold weight 100 fold.
@morgan taylor...I've always thought about charity after a big score like the lottery. Rather than give away the principle, why not invest the money and donate some or all of the returns? You could do a lot of good with $10 mill.
A bank employee stole the coins and buried them. Of course, when the bank was all it, the money was missing. They figured it out who it was, and he was sent to prison. Eventually, he got out of prison, but for whatever reason, he either didn’t go back to get themor couldn’t find them so they remained buried for over 100 years
Men of the past, old men in particular, have often been untrustworthy of the government and economic future, so they create a stash that only they know about. Their apprehension is largely based on FDR's executive order in the early 30's, that ordered citizens to give up their precious metals. These old guys haven't forgotten about it, and make sure to protect/hide their gold. As far as abandoning the place I think he probably just died w out ever telling anyone about his stash. Truth is there are likely many cases like this around the world.
Greg White thats what I was thinking...sell some for a nice cash cushion and let the rest gain value so you can retire with millions more down the road. Who knows, maybe they didn’t want the pressure of possessing that much gold.
The collectible value of the coins is much greater than the actual bullion value. They'd be better selling it all off and buying some generic gold bullion with the proceeds.
My exes friend dog dug up gold coins in their backyard in Cali several years ago. They then got rid of the dog because he kept digging holes. I hate humans!!
And the cheapest coin in the bunch could save my home from the bank. I won't even use the "F" word... I'm never this lucky. It's a hard life for me and my family from birth to the grave.
If they go back to the days Spaniards owend that land the treasure belongs to their ancestors because back in those days the spanish would bury their wealth somewhere on their property.
Yea this supports the idea that they were probably loaded already before finding this stuff. Donated the rest, hiking in their obviously huge backyard.

RJ Walker I don’t believe gold rust
its an infinite metal, non-ferrous so of course it wont rust... only superficially tarnish
One of the reasons it became what it has to humans.
Well those aren't pure gold coins. They're 90% gold alloyed with 10% copper. The copper can oxidize in spots on the face of the coin.
Gold doesn’t tarnish or rust. I wish I found that gold lol. I wouldn’t say a word
Good for them. If I would found those here in Finland, our natioanal department of museums would seize the coins and I would not receive one cent from the find.

That happens here in the states sometimes to
