If you get a down converter for a 12 volt system get one capable of 30A@12vdc. I got a 10A version and found that it would not honk my dual car horns. The converter does not really use a lot of the high voltage power but is there if you need for horns or high beams.
DUDE! I love this! i have an old honda cb750k but the gas tank is all rusty and the carbs need constant rebuilds... you may have inspired me to convert it... I have been waiting for Damon to start manufacturing their motorcycles for at least 5 years and i don't think it is ever gonna happen...
yay I've been waiting for this! :D I got a 750cc bike so it's got pleeeeenty of room for batteries and motor, maybe even a little space left over for cargo.
Is there any resource where you can find straight forward instructions telling you exactly which parts you need and how you need to connect everything? I'm good with petrol bikes but I know nothing about ebikes and would like to build one as well.
Only thing that confuses me is why the chainring is small and the sprocket on the wheel is large.. wouldn't it go faster if it was the other way around?
In theory it would have more top speed that way but less acceleration. But in reality if it was reversed, it would have NO acceleration and would probably overheat before hitting max speed ☹️
@JohnnyNerdOut thank you! I'm new to the ebike thing. I have and ssr189 dirtbike just sitting around with a blown engine. I think going to electric would be cool. I'm doing my research now. Thanks!!
My son has a KTM 250 SX-F dirt bike and one of his buddies brought his 72-volt 3000-watt bike over that his dad built. As they were unloading it his dad told me that it was okay for my son to ride it but to please be sure he could handle the power. I said to hang around a minute, and I would get my sons bike out for his son to ride to do a comparison on power before he left. Needless to say, that after his son made a lap on my sons KTM that he told his dad to sell the electric toy and buy him a gas-powered bike.
The 2024 KTM 250 SX-F has 42.8 horsepower (hp) and 19.8 pound-feet (lb.-ft.) of torque from its fuel-injected liquid-cooled DOHC four-stroke 250cc single-cylinder engine. What kind of motor and battery setup would you suggest I tell him to get for a rematch?
@@timothyallbritton1961 that’s pretty impressive out of a 250cc! He should get the qs motor 8000w mid drive and put 200a @72v. That would be a little over 20hp (16,000w) but would definitely be closer in performance. 3,000w is not enough for a motorcycle unless you have a gearbox. Even then it better be a lightweight frame.
@@JohnnyNerdOut I appreciate you responding. I sent your response over to my friend Rob. He is really into the electric bike scene but unfortunately rarely gets online. I told him to get on TH-cam and to follow you as well. Thanks again :)
@@JohnnyNerdOut Wow he called and checked on the motor you told us about and it weighs over 47 lbs. My sons KTM and his sons converted Honda are both 250-CC. That motor weighs as much as the rest of the motorcycle :)
@@prophetzarquon I have a class three electric bicycle. Sorry, yes it is confusing sometimes to clear up the naming confusion. I would like to try converting a motorcycle to electric that's capable of highway speeds
I seen scooters at auto salvage yard auctions go for as little as $20 .....Might be a good place to look.
Excellent build!!!

Ya I agree. The 10a can be junk in general.

Ebikes are a gateway drug. I added a motorcycle to my stable
Haha yep
Great build. Just finished my first ebike kit, now onto a motorcycle conversion. Thanks for the hints.
Beautiful build!
Pretty Cool 👍..........Hope solid state batteries get here soon.
Great tips and a nice way to show off how easy it can be to include the basics of safety on a DIY build. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Looks like you might be able to mount that controller closer to the motor and shorten the phase wires
Ya I’m not in love with the current location of the controller
@@JohnnyNerdOut The _current_ location? ;D
It kinda looks like you could fit the motor in the triangle under the seat maybe? angles might be bad on the chain...
Super nice!

Good content. What bike is this? Honda Cr80?
Xl175
That's pretty cool sir 👍😎
Where do shop for parts ( motor, speed control, etc) to build one.
Qsmotor. I actually just placed a large order with them to resale if interested I hey are listed on my website so you don’t have to wait 2-3 months.
Electro & co also sells kits or individual parts for different e-motos
Do you need to register that with the DMV and what would the process be?
Yea you do. I registered it before I converted it. I don’t think it matters but I will find out if I ever get pulled over
Johnny, can you help me find some bar-end blinkers you think are a good deal?
I don’t know any but I’d be interested if you find some too

I do video consultations to help. But besides that. It’s kind of the Wild West still.

What size battery do you have on this bike?
72v 28ah

Ya 3000 watt motor is like 4hp. 😂Not sure what your Ktm is putting out, but it’s safe to assume at least double

Hub motor all the way. I don’t need a super fast bike, just a toy with little maintenance
Uh oh….. I think I have a new project.
Y don't you add a dynamic motor and never plug in again. A car generates electricity
