    Some random 2 cents about comp tf2 from an oldhead spectator POV:
    I started following NA competitive TF2 in 2013 and it has never been as enjoyable to be a VIEWER and FAN of 6s since that era of 2013-2015. Back then, I think it was easier to put faces and personalities to the players, because you saw pictures and videos of them from the ESEA lan every season, you heard rumors, stories. Even if you didn't attend the LAN, you felt like you were a part of it from reading the threads and watching peoples vlogs. The internet was also a simpler place back then, pre discord, people still using IRC, and so a lot of the discussion/gossip actually happened on the forums and was available to everyone.
    I stayed in touch with the scene from 2016-2019 because I attended all of the insomnia LAN's during that time period, but the excitement was waning because of 1) no more ESEA lans 2) froyotech dominance and 3) many important players/community icons quitting for overwatch or getting old and moving on with life.
    The level of play is so much higher now, but back then you cared about high level players for their LAN antics and personality as well as their gameplay. It seems to me now its just gameplay, and everything is more faceless and sterile. A big part of why I got into COMP tf2 was all of the strong personalities and lore surrounding its top players. TF2 will always evolve on, but its just not the same.

      Yeah there isn't nearly the same culture around invite players just streaming consistently as there used to be from what i can see, and great point about discord vacuuming so much "content" or just personality behind closed doors
      It's definitely still there and the scene feels similar in many ways but you just have to be so much more entrenched to get the same impression, which is easy for me to forget

    One thing I'd enjoy is RGL and players consistently uploading matches.
    RGL certainly couldn't do every (invite) match, but having the broadcast for every playoff match would be great. I do not have the time to watch live usually and I miss being able to see the casted broadcast on TH-cam, in under a week after it was played.
    On the player side, I miss seeing the stream VODs of matches or scrims from b4nny, arekk, habib etc. I know its probably a too high volume for most invite players to sustain or very little incentive since their channels aren't big.
    Anyway thanks for all your topic videos, and I'd love to see your match comms etc. if you're willing and able.

    absolutely wild claim after half of all invite teams disbanded mid season and advanced omega struggled to get teams to fill out the division. the mentality at the top level is the worst it has ever been and the younger players are not being coached/mentored well, most of them quitting once they interact with an invite neet

    • @TheRealAstro_
      @TheRealAstro_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    • @TheRealAstro_
      @TheRealAstro_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And not to mention that mentoring over here from good players is nearly impossible to come by. If you're lucky or in the know you might get a singular demo review from a decent player, but good luck with that. I feel there is a huge divide between the top and bottom divisions

      @@sollybrown8217 no it does not. Much of this is centered around NA TF2 but it does not take into account the rest of the world where these resources are not available.
      On top of that it ignores that we had new player cups and resources in the past which have now disappeared.
      The reason new players need new player pugs is because all other 'open' pugs where you are guaranteed to eventually play no longer exist outside of NA.
      The reason more resources than ever are needed to get new players into competitive TF2 is because the skill floor and barrier to entry is higher than ever, with many players even in Open having played competitively for a year or longer.

    • @mac_cheese
      @mac_cheese 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Seems like there is relatively good support for new players in divisions from Newcomer to Intermediate, with 70 teams total playing this season. But from Main to Invite there are 23 total teams with only 6 teams in invite... How is this competitive? It feels like a rec league at your local park where you see the same people every time.
    I would love a video addressing player retainment because it seems like most people quit after IM.

    4v4 PASS Time is the next big thing on the horizon for Comp TF2 IMO. It's really raw, easy to understand, and fast-paced in a way that sidesteps a lot of the inherent challenges of the 5cp and even KOTH formats played in 6s and Highlander. If there is major growth potential for the TF2 comp scene in general I think it is with P4SS.

    It’s honestly on and off for me because, what all you say is true and when I went to lan myself (glad to meet ya in person btw) I thought the same thing myself with the venue being so full and the potential is there, but still it falls flat on many things like watchability, it’s not fun to many to watch the same matchup all the time, tho matches have been getting more interesting with the new players climbing the ranks and doing new strats or offclassing more and more it just makes it a bit more entertaining to watch. Along with TH-cam content on competitive tf2 being coming in more and more, not much but for the people who are interested can see that the scene is still kicking.
    Another thing is RGL moderation, it’s messy with people going against each other or not communicating to each other little if not ever, but they try and they doing the job when they can for free.
    Last is sustainability, we have so many players at open-intermediate but when they go higher and higher players start to wane and disappear to where it’s barely any players coming into invite and advanced, tho you can’t blame players for that as much cause idk why they left, if it’s intimidation, get a coach to help you through the rank you want to go through like the chuds this season and they are kicking ass!!
    See what I mean?

    one thing that is INCREDIBLY important to the scene is TF2CC pugs
    as a newcomer player, it’s way easier to graduate newbie pugs when you have multiple newcomer pugs running every day

    i agree with a lot of your points! I've been playing competitive as a hobby for the past 5 years and I don't think I get nearly as many harsh accusations from pubs and random gamers as I used to. I think content creators on their front have done a great job acknowledging what the community for what it is at heart. At the very least, they are tolerant and leave us to our fun.
    With that being said, I think you failed to mention a lot of the issues that are going on internally with pretty much every league I know of. I think there's been a big boost of players entering lower divisions and although it's good, I don't think any current moderation system is managing to keep up with it. I'm finding match quality, player conduct and generale morale to be exceptionally poor and I can't imagine how much more scary it would be for a completely new player to enter the scene alone.
    People will always have complaints about a league, but it's also worth acknowledging when those complaints become too big to simply ignore. If we want players with good sportsmanship and healthy mentalities to make it up the ranks, it needs to be handled much better than it is today, or since the COVID playerbase increase. Especially when most TF2 players brains are LITERALLY STILL DEVELOPING THE IDEA OF MORALITY, it's important that players set a good example, and community members hold both each other (and those they are responsible for) accountable for their conduct.

    Highlander has been shrinking and getting worse since UGC got snaked, but 6s has been doing pretty well.
    I just don't enjoy playing anymore because I mostly don't like RGL for various reasons over the years, the most common repetition of which is the need to make a tftv thread for timely basic moderation to occur, pugs still being a mess for every level of play, and don't like the way RGL has resulted in excessive sanitization of the broadcasts to the point of things just not being interesting to watch as someone no longer actively playing.
    I dipped a season or two after it was either all three or two of the top three amateur teams had their wins overturned because of a cheating ban over a month after the season end and stopped watching for the most part a few seasons after that, so I don't know if things got a lot better about production after that. RGL's more recent behavior in regard to bans such as the meltdowns shortly preceding the death of the RGL forums and the disproportionate punishments for everyone except for the involved pdf files until rgl got reamed for being stupid again doesn't have me thinking well of trusting their continued ability to moderate sanely, discouraging any consideration I have had of getting back into things.
    I get more info on Highlander because I'm in a discord with a few active HL players.

      In-game comp and valve being lazy did that.
      Communiy comp has done nothing but given players more reason to stick around

    Hopefully not, I dont want comp players to influence and make weapons garbage again just to please their niche playstyle that will never be on the same leagues with overwatch.
