    It's true that he was religious in his youth, and even planned to become a minister at one point. He was definitely worried that his findings would cause conflict as most people were very religious in those days. But most people manage to keep their faith while accepting evolution as the work of god.

      @Eagle93Writer 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When ? In the middle ages ? Durign the cursads ? Durign the witch hunt ? Durign the regime of the nazis ? Not really... The church CLAIMS to be a source of morals... while the only moral thing they ever did was LOOSING their power.

    • @YeastisBeast
      @YeastisBeast 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eagle93Writer Well, there are exeptions but this is when people have interpreted christian philosophies incorrectly. And although what they were doing was undoubtably wrong, they belived it was , at least partially, right(with the possible execption of the Nazis). Many good deeds are inspired by Christianity and other religons but not many bad ones are.It's just the bad ones get noticed.

    • @Eagle93Writer
      @Eagle93Writer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeast isBeast I say quite the opposite ALL the good thigns wuold STILL happen. On the other hand the BAD things NOT, because the one single REASON fro them is Religion.. SO Religion is a Problem.

    • @YeastisBeast
      @YeastisBeast 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eagle93Writer Religon can be used as an excuse to cover up wanting power. So what? That doesn't make religon a bad thing. It helps people;If a Christian was on their deathbed, and then someone like you came and told them christianinty was a myth, and they belived you, they would be a lot more miserable, because they would know that when they died they would cease to exist. Religon is a comfort to people, and I bet if you took it away overnight, suicide rates would increase drematically. Religon, although, in my opinion, it's not true, gives people hope.

    • @SarahGeo
      @SarahGeo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eagle93Writer Every religion has its ups and downs...Along with the crusades, the church was also a place where the hopeless could find hope, needy could find a refuge... You get the point. :)

    Across all sciences there are two fundamental assumptions: That the universe is real, and that we can learn about it. Those two assumptions has brought us a lot. Our knowledge about evolution for example has brought us many advances in medicine, and other forms of public health. Our knowledge about gravity has given us travel around the earth as well as out of Earth's own gravity well, and it has enabled worldwide communication.
    Those two assumptions are no stretch, and the results works.

    I know! It's largely flawless, and although it seems easy at first, it could be complex in some cases, and most religious people accept it too! My English teacher is really religious and she said that she believes in Evolution too, I think it's silly that people can't believe in it, and like my English teacher said: 'Maybe God started the evolution process' which means that religious people don't have a reason not to believe any more!

    I am not a biologist, but I'll still try:
    Earlier biologists believed that gradual mutations and selection would mean that animals change slowly over time, where we today know that most species are in equilibrium with their environment and does not change much if at all, where if the environment change rapidly we see rapid changes. So zebras in Africa would not need to change once adapted, and horses in Europe wouldn't need either. In adapting to the different environments they drift apart (...)

    Yes, SCIENTIFIC theory, which is different from philosophical theory. Theories in the arts and philosophy may address ideas and empirical phenomena which are not easily measurable, in modern science the term "theory", or "scientific theory" is generally understood to refer to a proposed explanation of empirical phenomena, made in a way consistent with scientific method.

    Ah, don't pay attention to people who say there are no missing links found etc. "Missing link" is a very out-dated term from the quaint old days when we thought that there would be one ancestor who was exactly half-ape and half-man or something like that. It's suprising how people don't seem to understand ti very well, not that I blame them, science is rather hard.
    I'm a bit of a biology nerd :P I do recommend reading up on it though, fascinating stuff.

    The only people I've seen saying we descended from chimps are actually Creationists and the like. We didn't. We have a close common ancestor with chimps.
    If you by slight changes mean that we can show how animals become very different over millions of years (Such as whales and land-mammals), then you're right.
    Last, I'm not viewing this as an argument, but a teaching session. Creationists aren't in need of further debates, but an education.

    I don't think I've yet misunderstood the OT. As I said before, I've had a bible study group that included a priest, a philosopher, historian and physicist. Where I live, priests are required to be educated in theology.
    The wars in OT aren't genocide in the current legal definition. That still makes them horrible slaughters of innocents and make Yahweh the most heinously evil character in cultural fiction. Numbers 31 would be an example that comes directly to mind.

    I personally think the most important thing about Charles Darwins story that everyone leaves out is that he was Christian himself. This song iteself says the church of England questioned his Christianity. That doesn't mean he was Athiest, it means some Christians were offended. Huge HUGE difference. This theory in no way should be concidered an Athiest's faith.

    I am an Evangelical Christian (Southern Baptist) and I do believe in some theories of evolution such as natural selection. I believe that God made some species, with man being created separately, then let animals to evolve and new species be created and changed through their comparability to survive in their environments, which is, Natural Selection.

    Actually, that's been rejected by the scientific community as incredibly unlikely. The current most popular belief is that animals evolved from the first simple multi-cellular organisms which were like hive-minds of cells. These in turn evolved from the close association of single-celled organisms. Single-celled organisms are believed to have arisen from proto-cells, or coacervate associations of molecules which could divide. Organic compounds for these formed as per the Miller-Urey experiment.

    Evolution is 'just a theory' as much as the Theory of Gravity or Germ Theory; in fact, it's probably stronger than the theory of gravity as we don't know half of what we'd like about gravity atm. It's certainly a very strong theory, proven beyond reasonable doubt at this point, and only getting strong with genetics in th elast few decades, and I've never seen any real holes in it (though if you have any I'd be happy to look, I'm a biology nut :D)

  • @TheColaGoodfellow

    "Your "we're basing assumptions" has the same legitimacy as an argument that we should abandon metallurgy"
    Nope, modern science should be used to answer modern questions and problems, but doesn't necasserily answer past problems.
    God doesn't need to make the world to appear young to be omnipotent. He's not the one looking for answers to the age of the universe where there isn't necasserily going to be any (Rocks, light).
    The world wasn't designed for the unbeliever, but you seem to think it is.

    Not... Not quite... Bacteria are single celled organisms, for one thing, and they were not created by/at/near the big bang. Chemical reactions play a role though! Please look up Abiogenesis. That's a really neat process, and even if you're not in the mood for dry science reading, there is a lot of stuff on youtube about it.
    Oh, and sorry if I sounded condescending. Biology is just very important to me, despite how little I know about it right now.

    What I said was true, the only things preventing the parts of the ring which cannot breed with each other from doing so is specific genes which render child birth between them impossible.
    Apart from that, life is never so black and white that the entirety of one gene will say "Hey, let's only have babies with people exactly like us". Life doesn't divide into seperate species, it mixes.

    If QI is believed, Darwin's theory didn't meet with much opposition from the Church at first. Someone said: 'Not only does god create the world, he can make it so that it changes itself.' or something similar. That is paraphrasing very heavily.

  • @EsbenDRK

    This question is fairly relevant. I see multiple Christian groups who believe that since their god is omnipotent, he'd not have any problems with "setting the stage" and then just light the massive expansion of the universe. Curiously to me at least, I find that those groups are not in opposition to scientific progress, but they believe that they should devote much to it in order to see if they can find their god there.

    They are not contradictions, they are simply wrong. It's not about honesty either, since they did not know they were wrong back then. They pulled a story out of their imagination and then said "god did it!".
    It's really that simple. The advances in our knowledge the last 300 years have shown so many errors in old myths such as this one, so people stop believing it and start looking at what works. Science works.

    Yo guys, this is no place to argue. While some may be right and some may be wrong, we have to entitle everybody to their beliefs. And if you do insist on disagreeing, at least provide some actual evidence rather than simply insulting each other.

    We didn't evolve from them, we share a common ancestor- like how people aren't descended from their siblings, but they have the same parents.

    Yea. Also there is something wrong with what the show said on the Sketch before and this song, We did not evolve from Chimps. All prime mates evolve from one Animal that is extinct. Same for all of the groups of animals that are alike. Knines, cats(Lions, tiger, cats them selfs, ect...)

    I don't get why Unintelligent Designers are so obsessed with Darwin. After all, his influence on the current theory of evolution is mostly historical.
    Since Darwin, a number of radical inventions has improved and corrected and further explained his original theory, and even if Darwin had made it up it wouldn't change a single letter in the Theory of Evolution.
    At last, I do understand your need to believe or not believe in something. After all, no fundamentalist Christian can anything else.

    i'd just like to point this out as i'm a biology nerd but evolution dosnt claim that we come from chimps just that we had a common ancestor good day
