I realize how old this video is but the issue was the crusty head over the nozzle. I had this happen to my riello burner and I believe it gets so crusty that the photo cell can't see the flame anymore. It was short cycling and I got it to stay on just by removing the buildup.

  • @johngibbs5019

should have checked burner operation after you replaced the nozzle . i've been servicing Riello burners for more than 25 years and can count on one hand the times i've had to change the Programmer or cad cell. In my experience when Riello burners fire this way , I change the nozzle and knock the air back a bit and 99 out of 100 times this solves the problem. A quick way to check if it's over aired is to put your hand over the air intake in the rear of the burner while it was trying to fire then gradually take your hand away once the chamber has heated up sufficiently usually it will continue to run but i always replace the nozzle and adjust the air gate and take a smoke test to make sure i'm still at 0-1 smoke .

That's an expensive way to keep an oil burner running. We had a new one put in over 10 years ago because the old one cracked the liner and almost burned down the house (old unit was from the 70's, came with the house which is around that old).
Been running flawlessly ever since, only thing it's needed is a new expansion tank and relief valve (we have hard water because we're on a well, so the relief valve quickly filled up with deposits and wouldn't hold rated pressure anymore).
