This film was shot when I used to go to Guruji - Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar, every morning to his R K Puram flat and spend virtually the whole day there learning and hearing his incomparable discourse. This is the first time I am seeing this film. One can see even in this little shot of his teaching (at 23.10) in the film all the subtle, complex aspects of dhrupad that I got from him and have tried to describe in my book. Even this little shot has so much - on the complexities of pronunciation, the vedic svaras - udatta, anudatta, svarita, the head resonances - nasika, anunasika, nirannasika. It was his desire that I should write a book on the Dhrupad of the Dagars and he used to be often impatient at the slow progress on it. In the end it got completed only now. I think the book in its analysis, its documentation, broad sweep and detail and above all its candid, critical, and brutally honest spirit would have pleased him a lot.
So anticipating the book! As a father, 55:37 on is exactly like watching an adult try to teach a little kid how to catch a ball. Except the ball is heaven. #rightconcentration

From where did you unearth this gem!! Divine. Listening to so much of Drupad these days and I stumbled upon this. Also this Lord Shiva temple is in Baner, Pune in initial part. Had visited this serene temple. Divine singing expounded blissfulness of this place. My pranam to all Dagar Gurujis and lineage.
