    Nicely done! Adding your videos to the Haynes and Porsche shop manuals is making our job overhauling an '87 NA go a bit smoother.

    15:45 I honestly wouldn't of re used that seal. It's a pretty important seal and if it fails the oil pick up will suck air instead of oil which could lead to loss of oil pressure. I know this is an old video and it's probably too late but order a new one from Porsche it's a super cheap seal and worth the peace of mind.

      Ive since restarted the project and have replaced that seal. Thanks for bringing this up.

      Very good. Keep it up. We've all over torqued stuff and stripped threads before, don't worry!

    I'm planning on getting a 944 to restore, the car I'm looking at is a bit of a mess, do you think it's a good idea to restore the 944 if you have never done it before?

    It seems nuts to tear that engine all the way down and not install fresh bearings. For the nuts/bolts you can not access with a traditional torque wrench, they make what's called a 'removable head' torque wrench, which is a torque wrench that you can fit a box end style wrench attachment on. Or, you can use what's called an "offset torque adapter". I have both and they are extremely useful is providing the peace of mind you get from knowing you did the job exactly right as opposed to the best that could be done with what you had on hand at the time. All he needs is a set of crowfoot wrenches maybe 10-15$ at harbor freight. I'm interested to know if it's still running?

    Dave-Did you mount the oil pump before you torqued down the girdle. I guess they recommend that in the service manuals. When I did my 86 rebuild a year or so ago I did not. Now I have a mystery oil leak and thinks its either the front of the girdle or the oil galley plug. Thoughts?

    • @davegilmore8281
      @davegilmore8281  ปีที่แล้ว

      no I didn't either. Actually, I've recently got back to working on it. I've started from scratch on rebuilding the engine and I realize that I didn't fit the oil pump on before torquing down the girdle. it looks and feels pretty good. I dont feel a lip where it meets, so im hoping that the Locktite 574 will be good enough to fill any extremely minor gaps. I really dont want to take it apart again. hows your oil pressure?

      @@davegilmore8281 Oil Pressure is great. When Lindsey bored and honed the block because I had some scouring, they removed the 3 plugs (one of the rear and one on the front behind the waterpump-they threaded the bottom one and provided a screw in plug). My fear is the front one or the girdle is leaking. I have checked everything else.
