The host was Dick Clark, and the show was "American Bandstand." This show was a staple on TV from 1952 to 1989. Many artists got a big boost to their careers by appearing on the show. Dick Clark was also a television producer, and his production company was responsible for many popular TV shows over the years. He appeared on TV almost up to his death and in spite of failing health. You may have seen him on his annual New Years Eve special Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve. He also hosted American Bandstand for it's entire run, even after he achieved wealth and fame, because he loved the show so much and enjoyed meeting all the kids and artists.

@jvsmith7888 my sister grew up watching and got me watching once I was old enough to pay attention, she was a teen when I was born so music became a way for a teen to bond with a toddler and I got the benefit of being expised to all kinds of great music early on!😊

Jay & Amber, welcome to the 600K club! Honestly, where do we begin? Three years ago, the two of you set out on a mission to bring people together through music. One baby boy and 600,000 additional family members later..you've done it! Your love, enthusiasm and curiosity around this great music is infectious. You continue to go above and beyond in making us feel welcomed into your home each and every night. Thank you for being a voice for unity in this world. We wish you the best in each step of your future endeavors. Whether it be that dream house or that dream vacation, you'll get there. You have our thoughts, you have our hearts..you have our LOVE. Cheers! 🥂❤️💜✌️

This was American Bandstand, produced in Philadelphia every week. The host was Dick Clark…every young person knew who he was and as he aged, he never seemed to get old. He introduced us to new songs every week. And the young people on his show would dance to the new songs or sit and listen to the featured band. If it was a new record, the kids would rate the record. If they liked it, the radio DJ’s would play it on the radio! Dick Clark’s American Bandstand was a very important form of media for the popularity of rock and roll.
Do yourselves a favor and watch some TH-cam videos of American Bandstand. I think it was on around Noon or 1:00 on Saturday. Whatever we were doing on Saturday at that time, we would stop and watch it. Saturdays in some households was “housekeeping day.” We had to help clean the house…we would stop to watch that show. If we were out riding bikes or out somewhere we would rush home to see it!

"Goin' Out of My Head" and "Hurt So Bad" are beautiful, also. I was a teen in the 1960s and 20 in the 70's so I, of course, love those songs, too. Thank you for this amazing song and reaction. Great to hear this song again. I remember buying it on a 45 (You're too young to know what one of them was.) back in England when I was a teenager. In those days there was only one radio station in England, and they refused to play 'Rock' music. We teenagers used to listen to Radio Luxembourg which, from 6pm for a few hours, had programmes sponsored by US record companies and would play all the latest hits from the States. I loved the 'doo-wop' groups; Little Anthony/Imperials, The Castells, Regents, Marcels, Monotones, even the 'white' ones like Danny/Juniors, and the greatest of them all; The Platters. great music all of them.

OMG Dick Clark was an icon in his time. He hosted American Bandstand (basically MTV before MTV) from 1956 to 1989. One of the first shows to have black and white performers on the same stage and a mixed audience. He hosted The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Prince, Madonna, and many many others. From 1973 to 1988 he hosted Dick Clark's Rockin' New years eve from Times Square.

Hi, J. & Amber! Great choice! My favorite song by Little Anthony & The Imperials is ""I'm Falling in Love With You".
Suggestion: The Continental 4 - Day by day (Every Minute of the Hour).

Little Anthony is a fabulous singer!! Still sounded the same a year ago at the "Happy Together" concert tour. Do "Hurts So Bad" next. From "American Bandstand!" On every Saturday. All pop/rock music. Hosted by Dick Clark who did the top 10 of the week. 1952 to 2002. Can't believe you never heard of him or this show!!! Every kid, teen or anyone into pop/rock watched it. Dick Clark later did the "Rockin' New Years Eve" specials every year.

This takes me back to slow dancing at a junior high school party. This performance was on the very popular TV show, American Bandstand with Dick Clark as the host.

That was the legendary Dick Clark of American Bandstand. It was a big deal to be on his show. He famously interviewed a young, mysterious lad, Prince and brought all kinds of stars recognition. He’d later do his New Year’s Rocking Eve and was Ryan Seacrest’s inspiration. Seacrest’s now hosts Clark’s New Year’s Eve. Clark also used to produce all the American Music Awards

This was an episode of "American Bandstand" hosted by the legendary Dick Clark. Bandstand was on every weekday around 4:00, just in time for the teenagers to get home from school. It was on forever - from 1952 to 1989. Absolutely every pop singer and band appeared on the show. Dick Clark was host through all those years plus he created and hosted some classic game shows plus he appeared in movies and made countless guest appearances on other tv shows. When he passed away, he was one of the wealthiest celebrities ever - much more than Oprah.

Little Anthony was part of the Doo Wop scene from New York City; this song was released in 1959, predating the Motown wave of the 1960s.

That host was one of the most iconic music hosts in television history. Dick Clark. His iconic show was American Bandstand. The New Years Rockin' Eve Show on ABC was his show. It continues on without him through Dick Clark Productions. He looked like that when he was 80.

American Bandstand with Dick Clark was the first US show to air the videos for Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane. First time Beatles had mustaches. A young teen girl started crying and said, "they look so old!" Soon after was the '67 Summer of Love and I'm sure she finally got it. Great show with a lot of great bands performing in person.
