Ryker, you are not the a-hole! As for the other two rulings, the a-hole labels were applied appropriately. I felt bad for that couple though. Hope it got worked out for the better.
100 support the rulings. As for the last one, no I don't think so. Like was said, it's a choice. If the price of admission was too pricy, people could leave at any time. We had an LGS switch to a "you have to pay us to sit inside" rule in my area years back and we all cleared out because there were other stores in the area. We did what that guy claimed he would have done but actually followed through. However, in our case, that was simply because the lgs didn't do anything to make it the first choice among the stores and because we had already been spending money on nearly every visit (which was multiple times a week mind you) so charging money for seating on top of that for no value in return came across as greedy. The one in your story is giving food, drink, access to an internet cafe, and seems to have built the store around that charge from the start (correct me if I'm wrong on that). The fact you were helping people cover the fee and reinvesting that money you got from DMing into making the game better for your players is icing on the cake at that point. I'll close out by saying that if this was a problem, it sure is mysterious that this 1 person among 12 was the only 1 who said anything during a drawn out argument.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, he was the only one bringing it up, and everyone in my current group I run for are still around today, so it seems like they didn't care. Though everything is free now because we play online. Little over halfway through a multi-year campaign.
