I've been one of the players that has had to reassure my dm a session without fighting or other immediate perils was not just fine but great. Like was said here, so long as I'm included every now and then I don't mind having a full session or two where the story focuses more on other player characters.
I have some players who are definitely role play fans. Occasionally these non combat sessions occur and it always feels awkward as the dm but I like it.
