    Thanks for the video, did not solve my problem, but video was instructive. Big caveat, if you do take the lid off, be sure to not accidently disconnect the scanner cable from the lid. Took me 45 minutes to get it re-attached.

      @@MRRMOTD Remember the screw you took off out to get the top to remove? There's another screw facing the side of the printer which holds a cover for the electronics that goes about 80% of the width of the printer. remove that screw and then you can pop that plastic cover off of the electronics and it will give you easy access to the connector that the ribbon cable goes into.

      @@DougTandy Sorry but my Canon printer is now just another old memory, all I can suggest is look at the cable and see where it's bent and which direction along with how long the cable is and try to imagine where the end of the cable would be because that will be the area where the connector for it should be found.

    Around 3:00, the dude doesn't say it out loud, but do not pull out the ribbon where it's connected to the back of the printer head. I did it and it was a huge pain in the ass to get back into place.
    In case you're reassembling and realizing that you've made the same mistake:
    1. Remove the upper cover part to get better access to the wiring (there is a screw on the right side near the right hinge
    2. Buy a 5 1/2 locking clamp from Harbor Freight (like $5) if you don't have any long pliers. If you lock these on the ribbon all the way, just past the blue part, you'll have a snug enough grip with just barely enough space to get back there.
    3. Reevaluate your choices buying a used printer for $20 because you wanted to save money, then spending $40 on ink cartridges because screw Epson, then wasting a day or two trying to clean the print head because screw Epson.
    I read all the comments first. The guy who made the video recommends using tweezers. That will help you get most of the ribbons back into place, but it's not the right tool for the job.
    Godspeed.

    This is great, thank you. This is the only video I have found on getting the head out on the 400 series which I have got. After numerous attempts of using cleaning fluid through the nozzles and it still not working well, I'm just going to try soaking tissue under the ink carriage for at least 12hrs. If not I will remove the print head and see what's happening and maybe dunk the head itself in some fluid. Up to now the black and cyan which are at both ends of the carriage are the only ones showing on a nozzle check but are giving a very broken reading. When I push cleaning fluid through all four nozzles, it all comes through, though there is more resistance if I suck up on the middle two yellow and magenta ones, but the odd thing is that the ink that comes out the bottom of the middle ones is black as well. I've changed the middle two colours with new Epson cartridges and tried printing and copying and nothing comes out those middle two. I've even taken them out again tonight and pushed more fluid through just those two and it still comes out with black. I've even checked the ink levels on the middle two and they haven't dropped at all, even though what I tried copying and printing from my laptop has yellow and pale brown colours, but the black and cyan have dropped as they printed but poorly. Any ideas?

    Please reserve printhead disassembly as a last resort. First try with the syringe "suck-n-pump" technique with WARM (40°C MAX) head cleaner or Windex or distilled water *(never use tap water!)* . Leave at least 2mls of *air* inside the syringe as a cushion, to avoid breaking the nozzle plate seal with excessive pressure (remember liquids are uncompressible). Remember to put kitchen paper under the printhead to avoid flooding the printer with ink! Another way to unclog those wretched printheads is to buy a set of refillable cartridges, fill them up with warm head cleaner or Windex or distilled water and do cleaning cycles in sets of 2 interspersed by pauses of ten minutes till the carts are empty. Flush the cartridges with distilled water, fill them up with ink and off you go.

    I have an Epson XP-4105, the black ink was very very faint after many head cleaning attempts. So I followed your video to remove head and soak into 5mm deep water hoping to clean it. After reassembly, error code indicating Print Head Short Circuit. May be I've wet the head and caused a short circuit. I've placed head in oven at 50°C for 20mins. Let's see if it helps dry it out and relieve the short circuit problem. Then after that I can run the printer to see if it helped darken the black ink flow rate but let's see.... From Reading UK. Cheers.

      Alas you burned the printhead or the fuses or the flat cable -or all of them. Your printer is toast. Bin it and don't buy an Epson printer ever again. They are designed to guzzle up ink, clog and fail, and printheads cannot be replaced when they go wrong. Choose a printer with printhead + ink tank combination cartridges instead. They are very easy to clean and unclog, and very easy to refill or replace when they go wrong. Buy remanufactured carts and you will be as happy as a clam.

    What do I do if I've accidentally disconnected the chord on the top left that connected the top to the base? And before anyone says, yes, I'm an idiot.

    • @303electronics
      @303electronics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There may be air holes in the printhead. You can just feed a little water into each color to prime. After a few prints color will appear as water exits. Also, make sure ink cartridges are at least 50% full.

    How do you get all the way up to hooking up the cables WITHOUT showing hooking-up-the-cables?!
    Did you use magic? Wizardry or some sh*t?? Or was it too difficult to achieve with or without a phone in your other hand :|
    Of course it's do-able but imagine a guy that's sat thru 7-and-half minutes waiting to see you reattach the cables only to be shown, "Presto!".

    • @303electronics
      @303electronics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a bit hard to get in there with a camera. I'm sorry. I will try to improve that in other videos. The wire just slides into the connection port. I use tweezers sometimes for that.

    What an absolute nightmare! I CANNOT reattach the small cable at the back & in hindsight I don't see any reason for removing it in the first place. The small cable holder is inaccessible & looking back at the video I don't believe the cable was reattached correctly like it was implied. I can see myself having to dump this printer after failed effort! (The top cable also came free but I haven't even got as far as that!)

    • @roycsinclair

      @@starrwilson8917 Remember the screw you took off out to get the top to remove? There's another screw facing the side of the printer which holds a cover for the electronics that goes about 80% of the width of the printer. remove that screw and then you can pop that plastic cover off of the electronics and it will give you easy access to the connector that the ribbon cable goes into.

    • @video589
      @video589 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roycsinclair I can see where the ribbon goes now but it's not really easy access, at least for me. I have some different tweezers packed away somewhere...maybe one of them will work.

      It seemed a clear enough video to me. It's not his fault if you can't put your printer back together again. As you can see on the video, it is easier to put back then to disassemble. Some plastic parts only need pushing back in till the tabs lock it in place.
