I wondered where Donkey came from, but because I hadn’t watched the original Pinocchio all the way through as a kid, I didn’t put two and two together at the time. If Shrek 5 gives us an explanation or even a redemption story for Donkey, that would be crazy.
Well, at least it gives him a happier ending than he got in the book because not only does Pinocchio leave him there to rot he gets bought by someone forced to do slave labor, and he eventually dies 😑
I watched a short saying to look at this video. In the short it explains the story of Dragon and how she is the blonde princess in the 1st storybook. She was cursed to become a dragon at night. That's why everytime a prince went to rescue her at night she would turn into dragon and burn them. She fell in love with donkey because he was the 1st to ever compliment her as the prince's that came to rescue her would try to kill her thinking she was a dragon not a princess. The theory said donkey was also a human from the story of Pinocchio, so they are actually both cursed humans.
That all sounds like it could be plausible buuuuuut on the first Shrek at 00:11:16 donkey says to Shrek when he is getting kicked out of Shreks house that he was born a donkey and born outside 😅 I could be wrong though..how many other fairytale have a talking donkey??? Plus your story sounds pretty good
I guess I was right OK maybe the person doesn’t look like the other but they act the same. They both tried to sell donkeys for money. I know in Shrek it’s a woman and in Pinocchio 1940 it’s a man That bit just makes no sense
When Shrek kicks Donkey out on the front step donkey says "I do like the outdoors... I'm a donkey, I was BORN OUTSIDE". that proves Donkey has always been a Donkey as far back as he can remember. Theory busted.
I got something that'll blow your minds. Check out the book of Numbers in the bible, chapter 22:28-30 . There you will see the only time a donkey has talked in history ..in real life!!!!!!!
I knew donkey was not always a donkey.
This is a possible theory.
A FILM THEORY!
“Me and Pinocchio was gonna try to catch a tournament anyway so maybe I’ll see y’all Sunday for a BBQ or something”

I love it it makes so much sense
Donkey is Pinocchio’s friend Lampwick
Could be, but then again, there were a few other donkey kids that could talk though.

@GCFutrell at least Shrek gave him that good end

So why didn't he turn back human when he and shriek took that potion, instead he turns into a stallion..
If he was on Pleasure Island, they kept the ones that still talked there so it doesn't make sense

The only major fairy tales involving donkeys? Apparently homeboy has never heard of The Town Musicians of Bremen. 🤣
The Donkey in this Tale could not talk like a human.
I always thought that donkey came from Pinocchio
No you didn't
Yes I did because the person that donkey is first with in Shrek 1 looks exactly like the guy who turned the boys into donkeys
@@BrunoStars311oh you bad
Boy
I guess I was right
OK maybe the person doesn’t look like the other but they act the same. They both tried to sell donkeys for money.

Or he could be just a regular donkey that’s cursed
When Shrek kicks Donkey out on the front step donkey says "I do like the outdoors... I'm a donkey, I was BORN OUTSIDE".
that proves Donkey has always been a Donkey as far back as he can remember.
Theory busted.
He could have lied at that moment out of pride.
@@alguien1234 possible. But without further evidence of him lying for the sake of pride I'm willing to take him at his word.

Thank you. I read it just now. Bless you, brother, in Christ
The Balaam story, huh? I see what you did there.
@@ryanspencerlauderdale687 :)
I actually believe the theory of the video
No ior was from pionocho so they are brothers
it can not be true, because Shrek's time is probably 13 or 14 century, whereas Pinocchio's time is 18 or 19 century
That makes no sense, Pinocchio is in Shrek
False
I really hope Shrek 5 shred some light on this in 2026
