When you see them LIVE, you can see that Geddy Lee plays the bass, sometimes WHILE playing pedal synths with his foot and sings, Alex Lifeson plays the guitars and most time when Geddy is at the keys and cannot play bass, he plays pedal synths while guitaring too. That's how a TRIO can sound like 5 people. Sadly Neil Peart, the drummer who wrote almost all lyrics too, passed away. RIP Professor, one of the most iconic drummers in Rock ever. Greets from Germany, hope that helped a bit.
Thanks for the information.
I saw them live in the 80's and my brother was so pissed at me, cause he loved them more. Sucks to be him......lol ❤
well said miss germany grew up there!
Never will see them live ever AGAIN . RIP Neil Peart 😢. Been gone almost 3 years
Brain cancer
Rush is one of the best, most unique prog rock bands ever, and one of Canada's greatest contributions to music. Their live shows are legendary, and all of the members are ridiculously talented.
I spent many an hour when I was younger rocking Rush albums. Hopefully the younger generations will discover their stuff.
Rush is arguably one of the best bands ever... If you're going to narrow that down to prog and unique than they are definitely number one
@@SirWrecksy I'd say that's probably a fair sentiment - though I suppose it depends on what you consider prog rock. The Beatles for example could be considered prog rock once they moved into their whole Sgt. Pepper phase. I'd still pick Rush over them every day of the week and twice on Sunday though as a much better band. Speaking frankly, I never liked the Beatles. I think their musical catalogue is boring and nothing they do moves me. Rush on the other hand speaks to me.
@@mitchellhodgemeyer7306Personally I don’t consider them prog, I just consider them Rush.
However, I’m not fussy about genre categorisations either. I just view them as rough guides. But for some people they set expectations for what they think they will hear.
Totalmente de acuerdo contigo.
Uhmm they're pretty much Prog. Prog is also a broad term and its versatile. We have Psychedelic Prog (Pink Floyd), Symphonic Prog (Moody Blues), Folk/Blues Prog (Tull), Jazzy Prog (Gentle Giant), Prog Metal (Loads to mention), hell we even have Progressive Pop (Supertramp). People are saying Rush is just a hard rock band with just lengthy songs. Ok. How about lets call them "Hardened Progressive Rock" or "Progressive Hard Rock". I mean prog is all about breaking the rules and crossing the boundaries. When COS got released the label and everyone hated them then they released 2112 to raise a middle finger. That's pretty prog. Also i give Rush their credit. When King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, Gentle Giant are turning pop and mainstream sounding, Rush stayed loyal and stayed prog then released Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. I mean they were kinda late and all 4 of these bands are their inspirations but it's still worth noting and they still went pop/synthy afterwards lol.@@kevinmcfarlane2752
Alex is possibly the most underrated guitarist in the history of rock
No, he isn't. Everybody knows and respects him. He just happened to be playing with the best bassist and the best drummer in the world, so naturally they get more attention. His own words, not mine.
So true
The only rock bassists that are on the same playing field with Geddy are Marcus Miller, Les Claypool, and Jaco
I never underrated him
200 percent correct!;!!
This was recorded in Morin Heights, Quebec, at LeStudio. This studio sadly burned down in 2017.
There are only three members. Geddy Lee (keyboards, vocals, bass), Neil Peart (percussion, primary lyricist), and Alex Lifeson (guitar, backing vocals).
Great comment, Dork. That studio was torn up, grafeetti all over it, rummaged over etc...by punk thugs in the are...sad.
I know that there is also an April Wine video that was filmed in that studio. Not sure if there are any others, but many big acts recorded there.
That great voice of the main vocalist happens to belong to the one and only Geddy Lee. The other two in this are Alex Lifeson (guitars) and Neil Peart (drummer and main lyricist for the band. RIP, Neil).
RusH was composed of 3 compulsive perfectionist, and genuine good people that do not have any ego trips that have lead to the demise of many successful bands.
Truly GREAT musicians that are also truly great friends.... Resulting in some of the cleanest, tightest most amazing music ever made.
Well said dinner with Rush is great
@@Fonpol68 Beyond the Lighted Stage...!
There are a few things Rush fans recognize about the band - Neil peart, the drummer, who is also the lyricist, is considered elite. A phrase that has been stated many times is that he is your favorite drummer's favorite drummer. Meaning he is highly respected within the circle of great drummers. Geddy (Gary Weintraub) Lee also holds a place of respect among the best base players in the rock genre. And his voice is unique and awesome, although a certain percentage of people simply do not like it. Alex Lifeson has the same respect, but for a couple of reasons, just doesn't get the broad acceptance of his greatness, like the other two. First is because the other two guys are so good that they take attention. The second is that being lead guitar in a rock band kind of requires a special place within the band in order to stand out. Rush doesn't do that. You will notice that within progressive rock in general, all of the instruments can demand attention, and specifically for Rush, all three are doing this simultaneously. If you notice in this song, when Alex is performing his actual "lead" on the guitar, Neil and Alex are just jamming so hard and clearly that you have to listen to all three all the time. Also, the guys are just cool guys.
I meant Neil and Geddy in that last sentence. YYZ is another one that is a 4+ minute base and drum assault with Alex providing his normal understated brilliance. Geddy's mother was a polish jew and a Holocaust survivor. When Geddy was young, she would call out for him in the neighborhood. Her yiddish/polish accent made the r's sound like d's and so his name became Geddy.
@@PatrickORourke-yz3xn lol that is one of the things that many pick up on is that those 3 master musicians are sometimes just going at it basically all performing solos all at the same time & making it work so well for that signature sound of theirs.
You should do Xanadu live from the exit stage left tour. This will let you see them all multi tasking in real time. Also it is just an epic song taken from the poem kubla Kahn by Samuel Coolidge.
Geddy, Alex, and Neil were all tremendously gifted. But for all the talent, the three men were friends as well as band mates. Geddy and Alex were first-generation Canadians who became friends in grade school, and Alex came later after the band had formed when the original drummer had health problems and had to leave the band. There is a non-music video of them having dinner during the making of a documentary about them, which is hysterical to watch. How much they like each other while giving each other a hard time is so amazing. Also, the entire induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is fun to watch, with Dave Grohl and the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters inducting them, and playing one song with them is great!
Alex at the induction making a speech: "Blah blah, blah blah blah blah. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah BLAH!" LOL
Three Ladies that know what is great, and what you like. awesome, Thankyou.
Ladies welcome to the Holy Trinity of Rock. This is a rabbit hole you must travel, over forty years of music. This group anything live and you’ll really see how multi talented all three members are.☮️🇨🇦
Peart, Lee and Lifeson, the three virtuosi members of Rush, played together for over 40 years, and made it a point to faithfully perform their technically-complex music in concert for their fans throughout that entire time.
Wow!
This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy!
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
Gary
RUSH IS:
Geddy Lee - Bass guitars, Oberheim polyphonic; OB-X; Mini-Moog; and Taurus pedal Synthesizers, vocals
Alex Lifeson - Six and twelve string electric and acoustic guitars, Taurus Pedals
Neil Peart - Drums kit, timbales, gong bass drums, orchestra bells, glockenspiel, wind chimes, bell tree, tubular bells, crotales, cowbells, plywood, tympani, and Gong!
"The Professor" Neil Peart on the drums.... Your favorite drummer's favorite drummer!! R.I.P.
A great three piece band from Canada. RIP Neil Peart.
Another great reaction. I sure can tell the different music bits that shake you each. ! Thanks for sharing. I saw Rush my first time in 1978 in small town Ice hockey .Arena . They are / were a Canadian power trio until the recent loss of the Professor (Mr. Neil Peart) drummer extraordinare on the same level as the other GOAT The late Mr. John Bonham of Led Zepplin.. i am 🇨🇦 and Rush is one band we claim but as all great music is over the world k own.
Lulu I think it would be a lot of fun for your reactions to be shared on the Nandi Bushall journey. Like Angelina Jordan I have watched Nandi grow in her talent and get to meet and play with band royalty as in she played for the Queen. I think you are somewhat close in age Lulu. I think Nandi will be 14 in April. Just a thought . Anyways I am sure you will see more comments coming your way. I have been to many many concerts in my life. "The Music of Everything" Bluesfingers1
RUSH IS:
Geddy Lee - bass guitars, keyboards, bass pedals, vocals
Alex Lifeson - 6- and 12-string electric and acoustic guitars, Moog Taurus pedals
Neil Peart - drums, timbales, gong, orchestra bells, glockenspiel, wind chimes, bell tree, crotales, cowbell, plywood
This band creates a feeling of disbelief. Your watching them perform and it is surreal. Perfection.
Greatest power trio and best live show band ever. These guys were all ridiculously good musicians all top ten for their respective instruments😊
Anyone that was alive in the early 80s heard this song. May not have known who it was but ya knew the song. All 3 pf them are incredible musicians and some of the best in their field. The drummer (R.I.P.) is arguably top 5 drummers ever. The bass player, keyboardist, and lead singer is all the same guy. Great reaction. Have a great weekend guys! 🍻🤟
RUSH from Canada. Love watching Kathy
Awesome! Thank you!
This is a video made of the studio recording of the song. The members of the group are: Geddy Lee - main vocalist, bass player, keyboard player and pedal player. Alex Lifeson - Guitar, Midi-pedal player. Neil Peart - Drummer and main Lyracist
Geddy is one of the busiest people on stage during live shows.
All three of them are masters at their instruments. Neil is known as "your favorite drummers favorite drummer". He was one of the best in the world. So sad that he passed away in 2020 due to brain cancer, RIP Neil.
If Lulu loves hair, then you should watch Xanadu from 10 years ago (11 Million views). This video is from the era where all three of them have LOTS of hair.
If you want to see one of the best drum solos going, watch the Neil Peart Drum Solo - Rush Live in Frankfurt. One of the best solos I have seen from him. Amazing.
We will add that one to our list.
Hĥĥ
From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!!
Quite simply three geniuses at the peak of their creativity and masters of their art.
Without a doubt, one of the most unique and talented bands in all of rock history. This band is in a league of their own. Not only did Geddy Lee play those instruments in the same song, he can play some of them simultaneously...while singing! Crazy talent!
Yes. They were in the, sadly, now defunct LeStudio in Canada.
Yes, the singer, Geddy Lee is also the bass player and also plays all the keyboards/synthesizers.
Cheers to you ladies experiencing and exploring this song and band.
As a life-long Rush fan, I enjoyed it.
Cheers, ladies!
Love and light to you and yours! 🙂
Oh ladies, so happy to see you reacting to Rush . fantastic band totally awesome job 😊
Thank you!! 😁
Geddy Lee vocals, bass, keyboard, Alex Lifeson guitar, Neal Peart, drummer, lyrics. 3 Canadian guys, making big sound for over forty years together!🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Alex Lifeson: RUSH guitarist and Guru Extraordinaire! The HEART ❤️ AND SOUL OF RUSH! THE FUNNIEST MAN ON THE PLANET AND GREATEST SPEECH GIVER OF ALL TIME!!! ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME: BLAH…BLAH…BLAH! HATS 🎩 OFF TO ALEX LIFESON 😎😎😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎸🎸🎸
Been a fan of Rush since the late '70's, I will never, ever tire of hearing this song, the reactions just affirm this song really is that damn good, the lyrics push it over the top once you get your head around them, truly timeless. It's basically a song for younger generations; "No his mind is not for rent, to any God or Government, always hopeful yet discontent, he knows changes aren't permanent...but change is" ...brilliant
Neil Peart, the drummer, is nicknames The Professor and is considered THE elite drummer that everyone is compared to.
When one of my favorite bands, Skillet was auditioning for a new drummer, Jen Ledger was made to play one extra song to be sure she was the right choice: Tom Sawyer.
Your spot on as far as the studio goes, this was filmed in Le Studio in Quebec were they recorded a good amount of music. A search for it will show how far this place has fallen into disrepair in the past few decades, it's sad Rush wasn't the only amazing band that recorded there.
Hey ladies, I saw RUSH in the late 80s in Halifax Nova Scotia Canada! Best live band ever!!
You guys just hosted the number 1 most talented band ever. They played like no other bands could. They also have a following of people that will never stop loving the band. Good luck on your channel
Glad you got to see this...
Welcome to Rush! Three master musicians from Toronto, Canada
Geddy Lee Vocals, Bass, Keyboards
Alex Lifeson Guitar, Mandola and later Keyboards
Neil Peart Drums, Percussion and Main Lyrist
Unfortunately Neil Peart passed from brain cancer in January of 2020.
Yes, this was filmed at Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada
I would suggest
Xanadu from Exit Stage Left
Red Barchetta from Exit Stage Left
YYZ live in Rio
Working Man live in Cleveland
Natural Science from the Molson Amphitheatre Toronto
And yes, Geddy does have great hair! 😉
YYZ!
WORKING MAN, live in Cleveland.... Raw live talent, with a reggae twist. Is a must for you girls...
Then the animated version of the classic "2112"....you girls will fall in love with this iconic band, especially as much as grandma loves Geddy's voice.... I had the pleasure of seeing Rush 53 times including the final show at the Forum. Best live band ever in my humble opinion!
Yes -2112 is an epic journey,it's awesome
Wonderful to see different generations listening to one of the premier rock bands that ever existed.
Rush were completely unique for several reasons. First off they were a trio which is rare. They didn't care about image, even through the (in retrospect) sad MTV era. They just wanted to be the best musicians they could be.
Then there were the lyrics and themes (99% written by percussionist extraordinaire Neil Peart) no other band dared trying to pull off. How many musical acts wrote about The Holocaust, suicide, the solar system (black holes or our moon), love, freewill, individualism, religion, greed and so on? None... just Rush.
Lastly being 55 years old now and having seen MANY live bands over the years, Rush put on a live show that no one else could pull off. To be able to reproduce studio recordings on stage with just the three of them was a sight to behold.
Hopefully you continue with more Rush reactions down the road I would highly suggest you focus on their R30 tour. You get a great look at how they pull off all the sounds live.
Cheers!
I saw them live way back before this song came out. Working man was their rocker then! At a later concert, when Tom Sawyer came out Geddy played the bass with his left hand, keyboards with his right, the foot synthesizer with his foot, all at the same time while singing on this song. I don't think they missed anything that was on the studio album! Completely amazing band! There is probably a video of a live show that shows this! Working man is where to start with their early stuff, R.I.P. Neil Peart! You guys are like watching my cousins in NC, love the reactions! EZ
You may like Neil Peart Drum Solo- Rush Live in Frankfurt. They called Rush's drummer "The Professor" for a reason!
Rush is amazing! These 3-member Canadian bands were so great! Another Canadian band is Triumph. Their live official video of “Lay It OnThe Line” is one I believe you would really enjoy! Well done, Ladies.
Just 3 Canadian guys that combined their talent to make the best rock band in the world.
Watching Rush as kids in their 20s knowing they would become one of the greatest bands of all time is like a time warp. Even then, they all had mastered their instruments but watching Neil Peart on the drum kit and knowing he would go on to be recognized as the greatest drummer in rock history is just mind blowing. Even at this age you could see he had timing, style and imagination that we hadn't seen before. He was already on a level very few ever approached. Of all the drummers I've seen, only Ginger Baker and John Bonham are in that discussion. Rest in Peace Professor. We all miss you.
craziest part of this whole thing = 3 guys in the band!
Most people are surprised there’s only 3 of them with all the music they make. I like their song “Subdivisions.”.
It doesn't get much better than this, 3 generations of family discovering Rush. Bravo👏
Thanks
This band was my first concert ever. It was back in 1978 on the Farewell to Kings tour. Triumph was the opening band. They were awesome. I was a tender 10 years old
It's like watching rock scientists. Yep. Geddy plays bass and keyboards, along with vocals. Alex plays lead guitar (sometimes he plays a double-neck, and it's incredibly cool) and Neil Peart on drums is also the band's lyricist. What a LOT of talents! Some of the best of the best. Fun reaction, ladies.
Thanks for watching
There are a TON of Rush songs that are worth listening to and reacting to. Natural Science, Red Barchetta, YYZ (I recommend that one live in Rio), 2112 (if you're ready for a 20+ minute song), a drum solo in Frankfurt from Niel Peart, The Spirit of the Radio, etc. Enjoy!
Very talented band! Geddy Lee (vocals, bass and keyboards) looks like a cross between a witch and an alien to me. Nice mix.
Saw Rush ( after their album 2112 ) back in the 70's in San Francisco at Winterland. Great show.! Like your reactions so keep posting and I'll keep watching...
Thank you
I was 11 when Tom Sawyer came out on the radio. It was while I was living in San Antonio TX 😊
That moment of, "...Ohhh yeahhhh....THAT song!" on 2 of the 3 faces was about as cool as the lack of recognition on one of the faces was funny! 😄
I have all albums till 1980. Beautiful three person group from canada.
The location of the clip was in a studio named "Le Studio" in Québec countryside, sadly this studio doesn't exist anymore. In late 70s and 80s it was one of the most famous studio in the world, everybody wanted to record there back then.
The lead singer - Geddy Lee does play the bass and keyboards at the same time.... my favorite band of all time
That snowy locale was Le Studio, in the forest about thirty miles outside of Montreal, Canada. Several big name bands had recorded there, including The Police, Chicago, David Bowie,, and others.
In the 70's, Rush would often play near where I lived. Beaumont, Texas. This is not a very big town, but they would sometimes come through, like, three times a year. They must have been constantly on the road.
spirit of radio
Wish I could have seen them live in concert, drummer was, pass away last year I think, good review by u guys yeah 👍😆🤘🥁🎤🎸🎸
“It had three keyboards on it!” 😂😂😂
Rush is what happened when they took six extremely talented musicians, and crammed them into three good Canadian boys!
🇨🇦
Saw them live in 1981 with an incredible Irish guitarist named Rory Gallagher as their opening act, and boy what a show. There's just no getting around that Rush's drummer, the late, great Neil Peart, was like hearing God on drums!
3 of them, 3 of you…making musical memories together for future generations to cherish. Seems like kismet! Rush on!
You guys need to check out,... 'Rush - Limelight' It's in that same studio....Ohhh it's so good.
What a sincere group. These young ladies have a lot of class. Nice to see people enjoying the radio hits I grew up with in Willowdale, the neighborhood where 2/3 of the band is from.
Thank you for watching.
I actually went to the concert when this song came out, I was probably your youngest one there's age! They were very good live, perfect even. Even after all these years I remember chunks of the concert. Love seeing three generations enjoying this great song!
Awesome
Geddy is a humble grounded guy who lets his skills do the talking. Regarding the keyboard set up, old ones had flat tops or in a rack for cooling. The MOOGbass pedals are ancient yet Rush’s sound is timeless. Neil Peart (pronounced peert) wrote all the lyrics 40 albums worth!!! Alex has a quirky sound that show his sense of humour. Watch “Dinner with Rush”.
I typed this from Neil’s hometown👍🏻
The video is in the studio in Vancouver Canada. The lead singer, Getty Lee will play keyboards footpedals bass guitar, and sing at the same time on many songs
I saw them in Pittsburgh PA. For this album tour. It was at the old Civic Arena. My seats were dead center, as far away as you could get. I was able to touch the ceiling of the Arena! Amazing show! Good times!
😎✌️❤️
Sounds like it was awesome.
@@KathyLuluandDonna it definitely was! Time machine anybody? 😁
wait til you hear their instrumental song, "La Villa Strangiato". and yes, Geddy is playing the bass and keys and singing. he's known to all three at the same time live.
Yea, Rush is a great band from Canada (hence the snow)! I'll give you some excellent choices for the next upcoming songs from them...'LIMELIGHT', 'THE SPIRIT OF RADIO', 'SUBDIVISIONS', 'RED BARCHETTA', 'THE TREES', and 'TIME STAND STILL'!!! You can't go wrong with ANY of them! They made a lot of great songs over their career and there's still some good ones i didn't mention but these fall in the top for me.
I just have to give you a hello because of your avatar. Have a Nuka-Cola on me.
And you recommended some good Rush songs...
Forget "Time Stand Still,"...cheeeezzy song, sucks. Instead, let's do "Time and Motion"...a song with balls & guts.
@@thecatthinksTime Stand Still...sukkkkks. Cheeeezzy...very cheeeezzy.
Sad but true.
I’ve seen Rush a few times dating back to the 70s. Tom Sawyer is in reference to the character in Mark Twain’s novel. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn were barefoot country back in the olden days. Today’s Tom Sawyer plays video games like Space Invaders mentioned in the song, of course this was early 80s so we are talking Space Invaders a popular game at the time.
10:18
You're totally spot-on, Kathy
Lead vocalist Geddy Lee was indeed playing Bass and the keyboards
Btw, Geddy Lee's first name was a reference to the pronunciation of his birth name of "Gary" by his mother whom still still spoke with a thick Polish accent
I saw them in the late 90s. Absolutely phenomenal
Geddy Lee! The squirrel of Rock and Roll!
Ladies....The Professor on the drums!
The background on the window is from Studio Morin Heights where the recorded. Morin Heights is north of Montreal, Quebec. You have to pass throught St Sauveur which is big on skiing and many many places around there have ski resorts. Sadly, the studio burned down some years ago and was abandoned.
Loved your reaction to rush. They're awesome musicians and have great hair.
Yes they are!
"The Trees" is my favorite Rush song featuring Alex play both acoustic and electric guitars. To truly experience this song watch the video from their live album "Exit Stage Left" beginning with the beautiful acoustic intro "Broons Bane" that flows seamlessly into "The Trees" and follow the musical transition into "Xanadu" for 13 more minutes of symphonic rock excellence.
I think the truly amazing thing about rushes that they were able to play intelligent, interesting and complex music but still make it listenable for the average person who just wanted to rock out. That is not an easy combination but they were the best to ever tackle it. Rest in peace Neil Peart
The sound track of my youth and life
Yes Getty plays the Bass & Keys at the same time. This was shot in Canada where RUSH is from.
Legend Neil Peart on the drums - wow!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Rush! The singer - Geddy Lee - is one of the all-time greatest bass players and he also plays keyboards and sings all their song lyrics. The drummer - Neil Peart r.i.p.) wrote all of their lyrics for all albums but their very first. He was one of the greatest percussionists of all time. This video is of the actual original album (Moving Pictures) recordings. Alex Lifeson is also one of the most accomplished and respected guitarists of all time, known for his precision, melodic playing and searing, shredding leads.
It was LeStudio in Montreal Quebec Canada and there is a video of the drummer Neil Peart going to LeStudio just before it was tore sown
Loving the rush reactions, hello from Scotland and thank you
Hello from Texas.
The video for Closer to the Heart was also recorded in Le Studio. It features Bubbles, IYKYK, and Ed Robertson of The Bare Naked Ladies. A very moving video of friends and very talented musicians having a wonderful time. Also, La Villa Strangiato, recorded live and in one take.
6:52-I've played keys for 40 years...always liked 3 onstage. Progressive Rock meets sci-fi..that's Rush..iinstrumentally challenging, kinda spooky and tricky beats with lyrics about deep subjects (Drummer wrote most of 'em..He was an avid reader with his own mini-library.) Studio u saw was their own up in Canada's woods..they'd isolate themselves during recording. Thier motto..."If it excites us to play it, we know our fan'sll like it too". Another great song off the same LP is "Red Barchetta"--About a future when gas-powered cars are outlawed.
this 3 man band sounds like a whole orchestra.
That was Le Studio in the mountains of Quebec. They recorded there quite often and filmed this video and Limelight and Vital Signs there. It became abandoned and was burned down by arsonists.
Another great reaction to a great song!!! Yes Rush is a 3 man band master musicians at there best I saw that tour called " Moving Pictures" at Madison Square Garden in NYC fantastic show there better live as in there studio music. keep on rocking!!!
Added it to our list.
You guys are awesome. I have listened to this song forever, and your comments are excellent. I subscribed.
Awesome! Thank you!
I think you would also like their song Limelight. Lyricist Neil Peart (drummer) comments on the band's commercial success and the fame and its demands that come with rock star status. According to guitarist Alex Lifeson, the song is about "being under the microscopic scrutiny and the need for privacy-trying to separate the two and not always being successful at it.
Bassist Geddy Lee describes the motivation for "Limelight" in a 1988 interview:
"Limelight" was probably more of Neil's song than a lot of the songs on that album in the sense that his feelings about being in the limelight and his difficulty with coming to grips with fame and autograph seekers and a sudden lack of privacy and sudden demands on his time [that] he was having a very difficult time dealing with. I mean we all were, but I think he was having the most difficulty of the three of us adjusting; in the sense that I think he's more sensitive to more things than Alex [Lifeson] and I are. It's difficult for him to deal with those interruptions on his personal space and his desire to be alone. Being very much a person who needs that solitude, to have someone coming up to you constantly and asking for your autograph is a major interruption in your own little world.
The studio in the video is called Le Studio in Morin Heights Quebec. Sadly it's no longer there
RIP 🙏🏻🥁 Neil Peart (Pier-t) known as "The Professor" Even though he was the GOAT percussionist his mindset was to always keep getting better at his craft. He said, "What is a master but a master student? And if that's true, then there's a responsibility on you to keep getting better and to explore avenues of your profession." ✔️ Check out Neil Peart Drum Solo "Live in Franfurt". He's every drummers favorite drummer.
They were in Le Studio near Montreal. Rush is a Canadian band. Try “The Spirit of Radio”. It’s another classic
Geddy is indeed singing, playing the keyboards and his primary talent playing the bass on this and all other Rush songs.
Geddy has a unique and underrated voice, and he's a good keyboardist, but he's arguably the best rock bassist ever.
It's 3 guys. 3. Making that entire wall of sound. And all of them are in the conversation for "best ever at their instrument."
But the best argument for best ever is Neil Peart.
There are plenty of Rush songs to check out, Spirit of the Radio is an excellent one to see, but the best thing to do to REALLY understand the greatness of Rush is to check out Neil's absolutely insane Drum solo, live in Frankfurt.
Trust me.
Your jaws will remain on the ground for a week.
RUSH: MASTERS OF TIME SIGNATURES:
They don't sit down and say "Let's write in (x) time signature." They just write what they feel.
Jacob's Ladder alternates between 5/4, 6/4 and 7/4, then 6/8 and 7/8.
Limelight is 7/4 not 7/8.

Around the time that this album was recorded, the drummer, Neil Peart, who was already being compared to the best rock & roll drummers in history, was involved in a tribute to the great jazz drummer Buddy Rich, and Neil was unhappy with his playing, compared to how many of the best jazz drummer played. So after some inquiries, he began taking drum lessons from one of the greatest persuasion and drum teachers. Over the next few years, he actually changed his style in very subtle ways, and became an even better player. He was someone who never stopped learning his instrument, and was continually getting better and better at it, until he and Rush retired. Sadly, Neil died of brain cancer in January of 2020.
