The Swear Jar made me laugh! Cloris Leachman did a ton of movies with Mel Brooks & I'd forgotten she was in this. Burt Reynolds was the epitome of 70s movies & the original version of this is worth a watch.

My brother worked on this film. Think he was one of the grips. Said it was one of the sets he had the most fun.
The big guard that they gave the estrogen to us former WWE/WCW wrestler Kevin Nash.
The big guy who was lifting the bleachers is Bob Sapp. He's an MMA fighter from early in the UFC.
Cheeseburger Eddie is Terry Crews. He's been in lots of movies (Blended, the Expendables series)
Caretaker is Chris Rock. Yes he was in both Grown Ups but he was not the voice of Donkey (but I can hear the similarity, that was Eddie Murphy)

So the guy that Sandler played in basketball trying to get him to join the team was Michael Irvin, Hall of Fame wide receiver and 3 time Super Bowl champ for the Dallas Cowboys back in the 90's. The beauty of having him in the movie is that you can just let him do all of actual receiving.

You definitely need to watch the original with Burt Reynolds. He actually played QB in college for Florida State but got injured. Jaws from James Bond is also in it.
I love Adam Sandler movies and this movie is good, however the original blows this out of the water. They include nods to the first movie in this that you won't get. Also the secretary is Cloris Leachman and she is the grandma in Bad Santa, also she is Frau Blücher (the house caretaker) in Young Frankenstein. The guy who they switched his steroids with estrogen is Kevin Nash a wrestler as well, he is also the guard outside the red circle club in John Wick.
Just as a reference, this was the 12th biggest film at the domestic box office in 2015. The 1974 one was the 9th biggest. So, it was likely a slightly bigger hit, but not by much

There was an English version made called Mean Machine you might be interested in. Also Wildcats (1984) is another American football movie with Goldie Hawn. :)
The short quick running back that went with Crewe after the basketball game is Nelly, the rapper.
I won tickets to see this in a theater when it came out off of a local radio station. It was really fun watching in a theater actually!
I have both on dvd, Burt was in both. My father before he passed loved the original along with Smokey & the bandit & Boogie Nights.
Yeah James you definitely should have done the original with Burt Reynolds.
Burt Reynolds is the Assistant Coach, And the Star of the Original movie from the 70s. By the same name.
It's a fun remake. But the original from 74 with Burt remains #1. Would love to see a reaction to that. As well as Deliverance. And: Mean Machine with Vinnie Jones was a surprisingly good alternative version.
Literally just left a comment saying he has to do mean machine now. The scene with Jason Statham basically beating the living 💩 out of Danny Dyer never fails to leave me on the floor crying! 😂😂😂😂

I notice someone already mentioned it but yes there was a UK version/remake from 1999 i think. Starring Vinny Jones and jason Statham, hence the team name in this one. So this is actually the second remake. Its definitely worth the watch!

Necessary Roughness (1991), We Are Marshall (2006), Rudy (1993), The Replacements (2000), Varsity Blues (1999), and Any Given Sunday (1999). Damn, didn't realize how many I could list off the top of my head (though I did have to check the year on some).

This is a remake of a Burt Reynolds Classic.
There is actually a 3rd of this movie its called Mean Machine. Its a british version replacing football with soccer and jason statham is the goalie
11:02 this guy was a wrestler and he was also a cop in India. Imagine breaking the law and having this guy arrest you. 11:42 this phrase was made famous by the Friday movies. 26:47 he was calling him the n word and trying to provoke him. They were also throwing books on the floor. 31:58 yeah he’s usually the “you can do it” man. 32:21 they were going to have a stunt double for Burt but he said he had one more good run left in him. Brian Bosworth who hit him was honored. He said how many people can say they got ran over by Burt Reynolds. They did it in one take and Reynolds did it with no injuries. He did have to be helped off the field. So when the other actors are helping Reynolds off the field that’s real. He got the wind knocked out of him. 33:32 I love how Knauer changed how he felt about Crewe. Seeing Crewe defy the warden knowing what the consequences would be showed him that Crewe was thinking about his teammates and not himself. 34:56 not Donkey. Eddie Murphy was Donkey. He was the giraffe in Madagascar. He’s also in a couple other Adam Sandler movies like “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan” and “Sandy Wexler”. Another one of Chris Rock’s movie that’s good is called “Head of State” he plays a person that’s similar to a mayor (alderman) and gets tapped for president. It’s a great movie that also has Bernie Mac in it. The original “Longest Yard” is just as good although I’m sure there are some out there that will attack my opinion of the movies but I don’t care cause it’s what I think. The Warden’s buddy Duane played Captain Knauer in the original and Burt Reynolds played Paul Crewe

2 but technicaly 3 of these movies ..... the old original and then a british version called " mean machine " which is the same film but the set in the UK with football ( not american football ) being the sport . I belive mean machine came out before the reboot of the longest yeard with adam sandler . But yeah , there is 3 versions of this film .

You’ve got to do the English version of this movie now. No excuse. It’s called “Mean Machine” with Vinnie Jones playing the role Adam Sandler did in this one, but as Danny Meehan rather than Paul Crewe.

Subjective as to which movie is better. They both have their pros and cons(p) to be sure. Having watched both I suppose I'd have to say the 2005 version is the easier watch in terms of modern films and comedic tone. But both have Burt Reynolds so, in the end it's a tie.
I love when football season is here, more football movies reactions!!! We are Marshall is one I've been pushing reactors to do for years now I'm not sure why no one has it's a fantastic story.
Fever pitch or when Saturday comes are real football movie's. When Saturday comes stars sean bean and before you ask NO he doesn't die in the film 😂👍
@nothernmonkey8612 oh yeah they're both great as well. I think I like we are Marshall because it's such a crazy situation to have to come back from, and Mr alright alright alright makes me laugh one second and be a little teary the next.
My favorite football film is INVINCIBLE with Mark Wahlberg. True story about Eagles player.

The origina one is great!
I have washed both of these films from my childhood and my adulthood and I love them both. I highly recommend you take a chance and watch the original with Burt Reynolds it's a far more serious film but it has a lot of depth that this one does not have.
You could have at least watched the first one with burt Reynolds

@AwesomeUSMovies or he uses his paycheck to get food from work with his 50 percent discount, then charges triple or more to the cons on the inside turning his paycheck into 6 times what it would have been, even if he has to give 50 percent to his contact to get it in, he still gets triple what his regular intake would have been. It's all about the con.

He was also Francis the doorman in John Wick.

- Released in 2005; directed by Peter Segal (same director of Tommy Boy and 50 First Dates); written by Sheldon Turner.
- Burt Reynolds (Nate Scarborough) played the Paul Crewe role in the original 1974 movie.
- Former ESPN anchor Dan Patrick appears in a cameo as the mustachioed cop in the beginning.
- Filming was done at New Mexico State Penitentiary on Route 14 in Santa Fe, known as "Old Main." The football game at the end was filmed at El Camino College in Torrance, California, and the golf course scene was filmed in Simi Valley.
- The Longest Yard was released on May 27, which was the exact same day as the animated family film Madagascar, which also starred Chris Rock (Caretaker).

This is a fine remake. Old movies before the 80s have their charm, but simply due to the evolution of acting and filmmaking, in virtually no way do they stand up to most movies made today. Its like when people say that 2001: A Space Odessy is still better than like Interstellar, or any other space movie made today. It isnt. It doesnt even come close. People place old movies on too high of a pedastal. They don't hold up to films today. Just get over it. I also find it so bizarre how people keep saying "watch the original with Burt Reynolds." Burt Reynolds is IN THIS FILM. Like wtf? You all should clarify with "Burt Reynolds as the lead."
