The word “catholic” comes from the Greek “καθολικήν/katholikin” which means “universal” as our church is the one universal church meant for all of humanity and the world. This word is found in the original Greek text of the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed of 381. The word “catholic” in this context does not necessarily pertain to the Roman Catholic Church, but was and is still used in the context that our holy church is always universal, in other words, CATHOLIC. This creed was used for hundreds of years and was made before there was any division between Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, etc. Catholic means universal and this is a much accurate translation. God bless!
I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets. In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.
I love your videos because your voice sounds so prayerful. And I can pray with you because you go slow enough that I can repeat phrases after you. Would you consider doing a whole morning prayer and a separate whole evening prayer from your favorite orthodox prayer book?
Thanks. Much appreciated. Yes, I’ll look at doing some more evening and morning prayers. There are a few on the channel now as well. I’ll try to send some links tomorrow. Thanks again!
Thank you for puting these videos together! I learned my prayers in spanish, but I used to know them by heart in english when I was a roman catholic (including the filoque), it's fun to remember.
I believe in Jesus Christ Son of the Living God splendor of the Father. ONE Lord God with the Father before all ages. Only begotten Son whom the Father is most pleased. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, Word of God. The Lamb of God standing at the center of the throne in heaven. Before him there's no one; after him there's none. The Alpha and Omega Son of the Living God. The only WAY to the Father, the TRUTH, and the LIFE; LIGHT of the world, Hope of all the living, the dying, and the dead. Through him and for him, all things were created. Through him and with him, he will restore all of us sinners to the Father; and now he came down from heaven to do his Father's will. By the Power of the Holy Spirit was begotten and born of the Blessed Virgin Mary spouse of Joseph the Nazarene carpenter. He dwell among the Jews, his kinsmen; sons of Jacob, of Isaac, and of Abraham, the chosen people of God his firstborn Israel - a Nation set apart by the Father. To them Jesus proclaimed only God is good and one Father to all of creation. There he fed the hungry, forgave sinners, healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, made the lame and the crippled walk, casted out demons, raised the dead, and announced the good news all about the Kingdom of God. Two days before the Passover, the chief priests and the elders gathered at the high priest Joseph Caiaphas palace and they planned to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. On the night he was betrayed, he was arrested at the Garden of Gethsemane and brought to the high priest Caiaphas, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. Caiaphas said to Jesus "Tell us if you are the Messiah, Son of God." Jesus replied "You have said so!" The planned to kill him was affirmed and commissioned by the high priest Joseph Caiaphas as punishment for Blasphemy. Since Roman law prohibit Jews to put anyone to death, his own people and the High Priests handed him over to Pontius Pilate procurator of Judaea as criminal accused of treason claiming to be Messiah, a King. So Pilate asked Jesus, "Are you the King of the Jews?" "You have said so," Jesus replied. Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man." But they insisted. Pilate thinking to escape the predicament, sent Jesus to Herod who was also in Jerusalem at that time; but Herod after making fun of Jesus sent Jesus back to Pilate. Pilate then declared, "neither Herod found no basis for your charged against him to deserve death. Therefore, I will punish him and then release him." Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe, kneeled down and mocked him saying "Hail, King of the Jews", spat on him, hit the crown in his head with the wooden staff over and over, and slapped him in the face. Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, "I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charged against him." He said to the chief priest and their officials "Here is the Man!" But the crowd shouted, "Away, away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!" Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. But they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" So Pilate brought him back inside the palace and asked Jesus "Where do you come from? I have power to free you or to crucify you!" Jesus answered "You have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin." For the third time Pilate spoke to them: "I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore, I had him punished, and now will set him free!" But with loud shouts the chief priests, Jewish leaders, and the Jews insistently demanded that he be crucified and said, "If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar." Resolved to free Jesus, Pilate brought Jesus out and sat down on judge seat called Gabbatha and said to the Jews "Here is your King," But the chief priests answered "we have no king but Caesar." The Leaders, the Chief priests, and Jewish people all shouting "crucify him crucify him" and declaring "Jesus blood be on them and on their children." Pilate perplexed and succumbed of the rioting crowd, took water and washed his hands in front of them declaring "I am innocent of this man's blood". He released Barabbas instead and let his kinsmen will, governs; therefore affirmed his death! After punishing Jesus, he handed him over to the Jewish Leaders, and Chief Priests to be crucified according to the high priest Caiaphas planned and wishes! Led by Pilate's Roman soldiers, Jesus carried the heavy cross hewed out of the tree, and climbed uphill towards Golgotha Calvaria. There, he was stripped naked, was crucified both hands and feet on the cross, and was lifted high; like that of Moses bronze serpent lifted high in the wilderness. Before he die, he prayed to the Father to forgive all sinners for knowing not what they're doing. While hanging nailed on the cross lifeless, was pierced with a lance by Longinus, a Roman soldier who was healed by blood and water that came out from Jesus side. Joseph Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus, and with Pilate permission, took the body of Jesus down from the Holy Cross assisted by Nicodemus. Taking Jesus body away, the two of them wrapped him with seamless piece Jewish burial cloth. Then buried him in Joseph Arimathea's unused tomb hewed out of the rock. On the third day he rose from the dead and appeared to Mary of Magdalene, to the disciples, to his apostles, and Apostle Thomas Didymus who declared him LORD and GOD. Before he go up to the Father, he promised his Apostles the coming down of the Holy Spirit and gave them authority to forgive sins. He ascended to heaven and seen standing at the right hand of the Father by Stephen. He will come down again as promised at the last day bringing all the redeemed to the Father's eternal Glory establishing the Kingdom of Love forever.
blasphemy. It is the orthodox creed and you say "chatolic church". The right church is the Orthodox church. You ain't following the right religion. The ortodox creed who was the first clearly states there is only one ecclesisiastical and apostolic church. And that one was 1st. After Niceea, the papists replaced ecclesiastical with catholic in order to incept the idea of descendency from Peter of the pope. But all these are canonical heresy
The word catholic means universal in this context. It does not mean the Catholic Church. It should not have been capitalized in the text to prevent confusion.
