    I bought one used from MPB specifically for taking pictures of my paintings and for making short promo videos for use at galleries and art fairs for my shows. I get amazing photos that I can use to make super high quality prints and the videos look fantastic. Sure it’s dated, but for what I use it for a new DSLR or mirrorless won’t give me anything worth the difference in price between roughly $550 for a decent used one and several thousands.

    Not even today,Nikon hasn't managed to make a mirrorless camera with the image quality better than the D800! I have this camera for 10 years and i am not interested in swapping it but if i would do it,i would go for D850.
    The downside of D800 is it's AA filter,i compared with D800E and D850 and in terms of sharpness,with the same lenses, it falls in the last place but even so,with the right lenses,this camera is till a beast in terms of raw image quality.

    • @WildscaperPhotography
      @WildscaperPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to disagree. In terms of Images quality, the D800 falls quite far behind the newer mirrorless cameras. The recent improvements with noise have left many older sensors lacking

    • @ganeapaul-marius7121
      @ganeapaul-marius7121 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WildscaperPhotography well, exactly that's the thing. If just one point is better, strictly talking about raw image quality,it doesn't necessarily mean I should jump on a new system:)
      A sh D800 is about 400$,a sh D850 is around 1500€ while the newest mirrorless camera...like Z7II is, new,way above 2000€. This was my point,with someone with a D800,there is no point and nothing to miss by getting a brand new mirrorless as long as in the same price category (D800 new, mirrorless new) there is no noticeable improvement to justify the purchase :)

    The auto focus on mine fails on occasions. I have to switch my lens to manual or it won't shoot.
    It could be the lens (24-120 Nikkor f4) I don't seem to have the problem with my 20mm f1.8.
    It's a tripod camera definitely
    Very heavy but the resolution is great despite the low pass filter 📷👍

    • @WildscaperPhotography
      @WildscaperPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to send one of mine back as it had the asymmetric focus issue. After points on the left of the frame were just useless in anything but bright light.
      I'm thinking I may go for the Z7ii and let the D800 finally rest 🤣

    Between MF3 and APSC I've a number of cameras but this is the only Full Frame camera that I possess
    The image quality is spectacular especially with the Nikkor 20mm f1.8 lens. It will do me for any ff photography requirements, I don't see any reason to upgrade
    However because of it's weight, it's really a tripod camera 📷👍

    I currently have a Nikon d750 but I need a back up camera would the d800 be a good choice I’m even on a budget but a wandering if I should get back a d750 or a d610 but what you think the d800 ok to get ?

    • @WildscaperPhotography
      @WildscaperPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dex! Yeah the 800 would be a good back up, as would the 610. You just have to bare in mind that the D800 is comparatively slow compared to more modern cameras.
      Hope that helps, let me know what you choose

      Hi. Thanks for your comment.
      The 800 is a great camera even today. There are a few duds out there so be careful when buying. My main advice when buying DSLR is to invest more in the glass than the camera. That's by far the most important aspect.

    This might be too specific of a question, but I’m gonna try asking it anyway. I currently use a Nikon D5600, would it be worth switching to the D800? Or is the difference between the two negligible?

    • @WildscaperPhotography
      @WildscaperPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tricky one. The 5600 is more modern and has some features the D800 doesn't. Wifi and NFC for example.
      You'll probably get better image quality from the D800 but the caveat there is the larger file sizes. Also if you're lenses are all DX lenses you'll lose any benefit of the full frame sensor. I always tell people to upgrade their glass before the camera.

    • @henriklauridsen5951
      @henriklauridsen5951 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had two D800 for years, and probaly keep them til they die. They are very cheap anyway. D800 is great for most of my use as a non-pro, but AF and lack of tilting screen and wifi can from time to time be bad. Because of the slow AF I did get a D500, a great camera for action, but picturequality is not better than D800 as I see it. Actualy, I sold the D500 after a year. Both D500 and D800 are very solid buildt, and D5600 is probaly close also in picturequality. If you only have DX-lenses, keep the 5600, it is more up to date and easy to carry for a long day.

  • @hoangvu620
    @hoangvu620 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A person who can use up to 40% of this camera's potential could be a decent photographer already. Built like a tank, able to create aesthetic pieces of art, for a very affordable price. An used D800 pairing with a standard 50mm 1.8 won't cost you more than 500$. They are glitches in Nikon system, just like the phenomenal D750...

    Photos, yes; videos, no.
    Anything reliant on an exposure lock to hold down the F-stop and shutter speed, while forgetting the ISO is useless for any video work.
