Fun talk in #ChatPack and solid conversation with Cirroc and Ryan about this episode. The introduction of the Trill (with modifications). Thanks @the7thRule ! ❤💛💙🤓🖖🏾
I have such an unusual reaction to this episode. I love the trills, I love Dax and I love DS9. And yet, I’ve never liked this episode. Why? Mainly because my personal feelings on Odan is that his character is creepy, manipulative, and a liar who arguably used Beverly. Him going to Picard and asking if he could basically persuade Beverly to leave Starfleet is a massive red flag. I couldn’t even finish watching this episode on my latest rewatch, half way through I actually started feeling physically sick by the absurdity of the episode and I stopped watching lol. Also, the ending must be one of the weirdest and most uncomfortably painful and ambivalent endings of anything in the series.
It’s so strange that this of all episodes introduced the Trill. The Trills and especially Dax are awesome creations, and I absolutely LOVE episodes such as Equilibrium, Facets, and Field of Fire from DS9. Conversely, “The Host” is hands down my least favourite TNG episode - and probably my least favourite Star Trek episode of all time. Just me - if other people like it I get it. My mum adores this episode, but she didn’t think Odan was a jerk, whilst I did. So maybe it is all perspective to an extent. Loved hearing Ryan and Cirroc talk about Beverly getting off with Riker! And I love their humorous deconstruction of this obnoxiously and bizarrely bad, funny and tragic episode…IMO, it would have been better if played as a surreal horror comedy! Thanks the 7th rule for helping to create some humour from this (again, just IMO) godawful episode haha !
What they should have said was they are the same species but some have spots some don't, the ones that don't are from a different part of the planet, they could have had some with both, they could have made a whole race issue within the species story arc, such wasted potential.
Great conversation about strengths and areas of improvement for this formative episode-- yay Trill! Thanks @The 7th Rule !
Awesome show, thanks guys

Beverly Crusher the incessantly barking hound dog! Come on, do a show on the best doctor: the cat from lower decks!
