It was an amazing scenic ride. I was lucky to take that ride long time ago. Sad it's gone.

Yes very sad but maybe one day it will be rebuilt by someone else.

From the UK ..... Thanks Tom, absolutely amazing journey ..... and then I had to 'google' to see who the Koch brothers were!

Did you find out where they moved all that stuff?

@@travelingtom923 No .... but I will keep on looking. Self isolation isn't too bad after all!!

I was on either that train or another one there, in 1987. The train went to the rim of the gorge. I then went to the gorge and also stopped for animals and went down to the bottom of the gorge.

There is also another train near the Royal Gorge that is still open.

@@travelingtom923 Yes, it actually is a full size train, and goes thru the canyon, like trains really did, all the time. I understand the vertical transports, that took you to the bottom, had a fire 8 or so years ago, and no longer are available. Their is a video on TH-cam, that has a complete trip on the real train, that I mentioned above. The trip starts out on flat land, goes thru the canyon, and winds up back on flat land. A really nice trip.

    Really nice scenery.
I do like the ride along.
I just could not have looked over the gorge, I do not like heights.
    Again thanks for sharing.
PS the dogs were cool. ❤

What a shame that it is gone now. The only thing we can count on in life is....change.
My mother years ago held onto my hand so tightly it wasn't funny when we went down a tram to the botton of a gorge in a tram car.
I guess she didn't realize that if the tram car fell down we'd both go down with it but I didn't tell her that at the time but did after we got back up. 😎
    Nice filming!!🤗🤗🤗👍👌

Yes I know the feeling. I made a video of that tram here th-cam.com/video/7puQb6LLSkI/w-d-xo.html

The dogs are asking " Heh what gauge is this .... is that supposed to be an F unit ? ... where are the squirrels and prairie dogs ? When can we eat? "
The sound of the wheel on rail is very relaxing. I love the Canon City/Florence area ... my grandfather used to work at the cement plant at a place called Portland down the road from Florence. They lived in small village near the plant right on the old mainline (D&RG I'm guessing). Village is long gone. Mainline is still there but is now a branch line. Good video .. thanks.

I agree the sound is very soothing.

Thanks for taking us along, Tom. The dogs looked a little unsure of their safety. Would be a nice layout to run, at least the scenery was provided by Mother Nature. Did they release the bird on cue as you passed? Darn those Koch brothers.
    Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍

That bird was pretty cool! I heard at one time that actually had a steam engine on that line. Dogs were a little nervous at first but after a while they seemed to enjoy the ride.

i don;t think that i've ever seen a switch on a trestle before! that's a long climb. but no inside rail greasing anywhere?

    • @travelingtom923
      @travelingtom923  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes a switch on a trestle is very rare. Did not see any rail lubricators on this line.
