This is what got me into railroad videos back in 2013, unfortunately I can't find that video anymore but this is just like it except for the water. Nice view over the shorthood going through remote dramatic desert landscape far from any roads or buildings. Love it.
Did this with my wife last year for our anniversary. Well worth it!! Spent the night in Canon City. Not much to do at night, so we went to see Oppenheimer. Nice theater. Good food at the Lost Cajun, too! Bunkhouse Burgers is a locally owned hamburger joint. Really good food run by awesome folks! Cool little town. Their spring flower festival sounds cool. Royal Gorge is close by, too.
Growing up in Colorado I am always looking up at those cliffs whenever I go through a canyon wondering which rock is going to come down next :-) with all that aside, it is an absolute stunning ride!
I feel that way whenever I'm on one of these trains 🤣 I was able to spot some goats up on the rocks at some point during this ride but can't remember where they were. Amazing to think of what it must've been like for the people to build this railroad all those years ago
My wife and I were in Canon City about 6 weeks ago. We hiked the Tunnel Drive Trailhead and got to see the train go by. The open car was full and looked like a lot of fun. We also saw it later when we walked across the Royal Gorge Bridge. We have cool pics and videos. We're definitely taking the train next time we're there. Thanks for sharing!!
Spectacular views! Im just unaccustomed to the train driver sounding the horn so much - in Sweden it only happens rarely/when there is a risk of accident.
I'm doing one in Arizona next month. Not sure if you're familiar with the Verde Canyon Railroad. My daughter is graduating in Phoenix. I'm excited about doing that 4 hour ride. One really nice one my bucket list is the one up in Skagway, Alaska, the White Pass & Yukon route. Very breathtaking.... one ride at a time
I took a train through Switzerland last summer, it was one of the best rides I've ever been on. Such a beautiful country! I'll post video of it in the coming months
Certainly one of the best railroads in North America for its scenery. The film doesn't do it justice, as the mountains of the valley tower above the river like nowhere else I have ever seen. Add that to the railroads amazingly chequered history of multiple court cases, hired gunslingers and a minor local war over usage rights and it all adds up to a great visit.
You're absolutely correct. The mountains towering above us were incredible and all the history behind it was an awesome surprise. One of the best rides I've ever had!
There even a youtube video: The Royal Gorge passenger train - "Through the Rockies, not around them", was the slogan for this Missouri Pacific, Denver & Rio Grande Western, and Western Pacific joint operation. From St. Louis to San Francisco, this film depicts all of the places to see along the way and at each end point.
A deux nous avions fait en voiture, la Californie, l'Arizona, l'Utah, le Nevada certes très beaux paysages mais très fatiguant. Faire le Colorado en train cela doit être une très belle expérience et aussi très reposante.
Last time I was down there many years ago, the river was full of rafters flashing their bare behinds at the train. 😂 Maybe this isn't summer, warm weather? Anyway, they were still using F-units for power. Beautiful little trip. 👍
The weather was perfect for rafting, but I think the water might be so rough it's not safe for them to flash their rear ends. I know the rafters happily greet the California Zephyr the same way lol
Thanks for uploading. I saved this video to my "PLAYLIST" I have titled "LIVE CAMS"...I will run videos like this one on one monitor as I work on my other monitor(s). In anycase, I have a Several QUESTIONS or curiosities.... REFERENCE POINT: 25:30 Time 1) PRIOR TO THIS POINT THERE WAS A SUBSTANTIAL TRESSEL APPEARED TO BE ~75-100ft HIGHER THAN THE TRACKS YOUR ON...IS THAT A SECONDARY PASSAGE DURING WINTER OR A DIFFERENT "LINE"? I TRIED TO FOLLOW THE TRACKS ABOVE BUT COULD NOT TELL IF THEY EVENTUALLY CONNECTED TO THE TRACKS YOU ARE ON... 2) WHAT ARE THE STRUCTURES TO THE RIGHT 1-2 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE @ 25:30 3) 25:30 MARK, CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT APPEARS TO BE A CONCRETE BRIDGE PILING AND I NOTICED A ROAD WAS CREATED ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE RIVER 30-40FT ABOVE THE VALLEY FLOOR... At that point the Gorge turns to the left at ~30'-40' or so... DID THE RIVER FLOOD WASHING THE BRIDGE OUT OR IS THAT AN ONGOING PROJECT? I Hope you're able to record and post scenes of your trips during the winter when it is snowing. Thanks!
I'll try to answer as best I can! 1) I think it used to be an old road bridge or a trail bridge but I'm not entirely sure. There's a lot of history around this ride. 2) That is a holiday village the railroad uses in the winter. 3) I don't think the river washed the bridge out. I think it might have carried a second track to the opposite side of the river. I think there were two railroads looking to build a line through this gorge years ago. Maybe someone can chime in with more accurate information. I would love to catch this train in the winter! Maybe I'll get back there someday.
Because this is only a one route train. It's primarily used for the scenic views since it's impossible to reach by road. So the train reaches its destination and reversed back to allow people to either retake photos or just admire the views again.
@@DalionHeartTTV Not sure if you are referencing the simple train tracks or the gorge itself.... if its the later.... the Royal Gorge is a natural formation caused by erosion from the Arkansas River, the river which is in clear camera view most of the video. Also the scenic train track isn't doing anything, its highways and the like that are far more devastating to ecosystems and cause fragmentation.
This is a tourist train. There's no loop or wye to turn the train around. It drives out to the end point and reverses back to the origin point so people can see the views again.
Once we get near Parkdale the train reverses back through the gorge to Cañon City. As far as I know the line is out of service not far from the end of the trip
Are my eyes and ears playing tricks on me, at 52:26 I heard another train horn and saw a glitch on the go pro at 52:21. Then saw what looked to be lights of a train behind you guys before taking off? I know that the Tennessee Pass is dormant, except the part that Royal Gorge runs.
Nope! They're not playing tricks on you. That other train horn is coming from the opposite end of the train I was on. Since we started going backwards, there is a conductor on the rear end of the train who has access to a horn for grade crossings. The glitch at 52:21 is just a dissolve to cut away the minutes we were sitting there. The lights you see are of a hi-rail truck that was sent out earlier in the day to investigate an alleged down wire somewhere along the route. Good eyes and ears!

So beautiful, I would love to film a train ride like this. Imagine one in the rain with lightning in the distance 😮
Good video, like.

Great video, was that a tourist train?
Yes, it is!
Beautiful isolated scenery, but why is the horn used sporadically in the middle of nowhere?
Sometimes it's to greet rafters. Another time the engineer asked me if I wanted to sound the horn. How could I say no? lol
Fantastic footage and scenery! What camera did you use? GoPro?
Yep! A GoPro with a suction cup mount attached to the window
Line is just heritage or daily freight possible? Thanks for content.
There's a quarry not far from the end point of this ride in Parkdale. It might see a train, but maybe someone else has more info than I do.
Why does the train stop at 52:00 min? Desolate, The train proceeds backwards from where it came?

This is a tourist train. There's no loop or wye to turn the train around. It drives out to the end point and reverses back to the origin point so people can see the views again.

more rafters 44 min mark...cool
what were concrete structures at 51;28 ish min mark? on right side of tracks?

What are those objects flying in the sky at 29:40? It's looks like they are about to collide mid air
They're gondolas that takes visitors to the park across the gorge.

That's a winter village for holiday train trips. They set up a mini North Pole if I remember correctly
