This is what I found out. Apparently, the UK were the first to premiere *"Star Wars"* on TV. America never showed it until 1984. Back then, movie premieres were major TV events. This was shown over a week before Channel 4 came along (Tues 2nd November 1982).
I will eternally regret taping over my recording of the UK premiere sometime in the late 80's but these ad breaks are still seared into my brain. I was only 5 years old in 1982 but I must of watched that recording a hundred times. And I'd still sooner watch this version with the mono soundtrack (still the best mix imho) and in pan and scan than any of the official versions since 1997.
the premiere was on sunday 24th october 1982. it was repeated around august / september 1983. shown again on itv on new year's day 1987 when I recorded it. i think that is the transmission you are referring to perhaps?

@@bobrew461 No, I was referring to the premiere. Why would you think I wasn't?
I've got a Video 2000 recording of this from Border Television - very different tone and mostly different adverts :)
Man, the Breville Sandwich Maker sure got a workout when I was a teenager! We put everything in those things!
A trip down nostalgia line, for some I mean ha!
Nice. I miss just having a poster for the adverts instead of “these adverts you’re about to see are themselves sponsored by XYZ”.
Wish i could turn the clocks back to them days better than how life it is today.
@@PaulGould-t7u at least adverts back then had more life and soul put into them than this corporate stuff we get nowadays
life wasn't that much better in 1982;
there was a war on.
hijackings of passenger aircraft were rife. Hardly happens today

there are some really good and funny tv ads running right now.
one of my faves: th-cam.com/video/PjCna7NilKU/w-d-xo.html
Have you got continuity and adverts for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi?
I don't think so, I'll have to keep looking
1982:- Thames Television and LWT.
